The simple truth. Name one other rock guitarist who could pick up a Les Paul and -- the year Les died, at the Grammy's -- replicate PERFECTLY Les and Mary's million seller HOW HIGH THE MOON. Rhetorical question. Though he wasn't a rocker, the Winnipeg-raised genius who was Lenny Breau (Atkins told me in '71, "Lenny's the greatest guitarist in the world") -- Lenny could play everything Les ever recorded, sounding like more than one guitar. Merely impossible. But since Mr. Breau, Jeff is the all-'round greatest not-merely-rock-guitarist . . . who ever lived. Full stop. Thanks for sharing, Franmaestro. Just posted a note of my own to Sinatra Family -- Mark B of the frozen North
Absolutely…! I can not believe He is gone.. but will never ever be forgotten. One of the Greatest! A beautiful Soul, a Lovely Gentleman, a Gorgeous Man “in and out”..! His legacy is Phenomenal… I Will Always Love You, Maestro Jeff Beck.. Rest Easy in the Eternal Lights of Heaven, my Darling 🕯 🕯 🕯
I've seen Jeff Beck live twice in the last 6-8 years or so and each time he had someone fantastic as the warmup. The first time it was Buddy Guy who was great. The second time it was Ann Wilson from Heart. Each of them would be worth seeing at a concert without another band or performer. And of course Jeff and his band were fantastic. I think having other performers of top quality shows a confidence that Jeff has that he can allow this without being threatened by another great performer. I'm not sure all musicians have this.
RIP Mr Beck possibly the one of the best guitar players ever, i still play Guitar Shop and Flash on vinyl from 1989 and 1985, Condolences to his family.
Jeff Beck was a great guitarist, one of the best in the world! With Steven Tyler n vocals everything went great. I love this! An Jeff Beck was a fine person too ❤ !- John Coolman
Jeff pretty much owns this song after he recorded it with the Yardbirds, Sam Phillips produced it. Pretty revolutionary in 1965 to have 2 guitar solos in a song. He gets to play it any way he wants to now. Everybody who's played it since have just done a variation of that version. SteveTyler is probably the best rock vocalist of the song I've heard.
The fabulous Jeff Beck is as great as always. Unfortunately, Jeff Beck never made it as big as Jimmy Page or Eric Clapton. All three of these men started together.
You have a point. When I tell friends that Beck was the Yardbirds best guitarist, they don’t like it. They are all Page or Clapton fans. Mostly Page. That’s fine. All three had great careers. But fellow guitarists knew Beck could do it all like no other.
For anyone interested: the full show 'Live At The Hollywood Bowl' has just been made available to watch on our streaming service in full HD + 5.1 surround sound 🎸
I was there at the Hollywood Bowl and regret that I couldn't have seen him during his Yardbirds era. It was his 51st year, as his first recording was with the Yardbirds ("Heart full of soul") in 1965.
Despite playing without a pick, the dude has reached uber royalty status. I can't imagine what he would have been capable if he'd just bought himself a few Fender mediums.
Watch the film Blow Up, it's a rubbish film, but there is a scene with the Yardbirds playing this song wih Jeff Beck destroying equipment. It's a must see. Oh, and Jimmy Page is also playing. It's from 1966. Very strange audience, not sure what the director was trying to say, but a great scene with two fabulous guitarists.
Agreed. The singer gave the sound, look and performance presence of that early period Montrose. Not sure if I like the ending or not. That means it was a great performance.
A very clever interesting man . He is amazing performer, never seen anyone move around the stage like him. Many years ago at a party I can remember the number masquerade being played and a very big drunk guy attempting to do his dance hen crashing into the d.j table taking it out along with half a dozen other people drinks included. Chaos kicked off so never try to impersonate Jobson ever
I was at this concert sitting just a few box seats up. First I am so glad to see my all time favorite guitarist in person. That said, I was loving Jeff's concert until later Tyler appeared on stage along with Billy Gibbons. I actually was pissed. To me neither guy deserved to be on the same stage with Jeff. The whole evening changed, no longer Jeff was the frontman and they stopped playing Jeff's music like the above song. I never was a Tyler fan.
Just shared with Nancy at Sinatra Family -- her own thread which today features "Elvis intros Nancy in Vegas." After sharing the latest Fox News Entertainment on-line article about Aerosmith's residency in Vegas this year "best thing we've ever done in our career," and after sharing there Steven Tyler & Chris Botti's magnificent rendering of Charlie Chaplin's best tune, 'SMILE' I posted this note: That Fox Entertainment article today (8/14/2019) included a link to Steven Tyler's latest compilation CD which includes this version of SMILE. One good thing leads to another: There is my all-time favorite rock guitarist, Jeff Beck soloing at the Hollywood Bowl in 2016. Who's the greatest rock guitarist? Jimmy H of course. Who is the greatest ALL AROUND guitarist? (who replicated all of Les Paul's licks on a live-at-the-Grammys' performance of How High the Moon the year Les left us). This guy. Jeff was 72 and Steven was 69 when this was filmed. Let that sink in. Age is a mindset. RIP Jeff, you were the best ever to play
Two more opinions that don't matter.
@@johnhitz1185 you mean like yours?
Jeff really was and still is one of a kind
Roger Daltrey is 80!
Blessed to have been around during when there were great bands. I think rock music saved my life. 🐾
Jeff Beck...we miss you 😉💋
RIP Jeff. Thanks for your music and talent.
Totally gutted by his passing. Jeff Beck RIP😢😢
Jeff Beck is the best! Nobody plays like Jeff Beck!
Indeed!

Every guitar player can learn from what Jeff Beck has done. The way he used his whammy bar, for instance, was invariably astonishing.
Thank you for ever! RIP!
Greetings from Hamburg Germany, Andreas
I guess anyone who can be a guitar god to the guitar gods is way over my head.
Beck is so unbelievable! I never get tired of listening to him
Back in 65 the Yardbirds did a version of this song with Beck on lead guitar.
Holy shit! For a couple of old men these guys know how to rawk. AND rawl.
Jeff recruits the most interesting band mates.

Jeff Beck is a genius.
Every second of the song I was expecting him to go berserk and start trashing the speakers and the amplifier.
Amazing!!! Two legends sharing the stage... Beck always has great bands too.

Id never seen this before. Good stuff. So much talent on that stage.

You are right. I don’t think he cared though. His guitar speaks for him. He made it very, very big. Don’t kid yourself. Cheers.
