Hello -. My name is Deborah, and I live in Southern California, USA.. I came across your channel quite by accident, and enjoy it very much. I don't mean to presume, but from your appearance, it appears that we may be close in age, Please understand, I mention this because I find it very refreshing to listen to and watch a host from my generation! While I may enjoy listening to wide variety of narrators and storytellers, you're extremely well-spoken and articulate, and exceptionally professional. With that said, may I make a request?
Recently I viewed an episode that showed a "blooper" cut replayed, again and again, because you couldn't stop laughing - giggling - long enough to begin that particular segment. That was wonderful, and so funny! It was great to see that side of you! You should consider doing at least one outtake at the end of each show! I may be fairly new to your channel, but I have watched quite a few videos and have enjoyed each one! I just realized, though, after viewing this episode, I find myself looking for more outtakes!
Thank you again for the entertaining and informative videos! Keep up the good work!

That San Jose mob was horrifying. So many unnecessary injuries! I wonder if any innocents died of their injuries; if not, it's a miracle. Mob mentality is so horrifying; reminds me of the scariest scene from Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, when the mob lynches that nurse from Frankenstein's castle, thinking she was guilty because she was always present when people disappeared.

ok so let's say that Dorothy Stratten did use Paul Snider and then when a better opportunity arose that she then left him for Peter Bogdanovich. it did not give Paul Snider the right to do to her what he did. the fact that Teresa Carpenter won a Pulitzer for basically blaming the victim is truly mind-boggling. i too have been used but it doesn't mean that i would do something as horrific as what Paul Snider did to her. meh just my 2 cents' worth.

Yeah, I was horrified by the 'won a prestigious award for victim blaming' aspect. No one would try to say 'cheating' is okay, but there was a lot going on in that relationship that was awful. He was really _abusive,_ (in pretty much every possible way) & she had tried to get out more than once before.
No one has the right to take someone's life for choosing to no longer be in a relationship with them. If _anyone_ was used, she was. He groomed her, beat her, used her body to make money (as he had with so many women before), financially controlled everything (& stole large amounts from her), of course she wanted out.

Nobody who even caught a glimpse of Schneider thought him anything but a shyster. But he never forgot a name. About his only virtue. Somebody got a Pulitzer for saying otherwise? Bogdanovich went on to write The Killing of the Unicorn, blaming his former friend Hugh Hefner and the Playboy Empire for Stratton's death, which was gruesome 'way beyond your tasteful mention. She was literally blown apart. Like those of Marilyn and Natalie Wood, there are always flowers on her grave.

The lynching in San Jose was horrific indeed. But we abolished the death penalty in California, resulting in, among many others, Manson & his Family living out their lives at taxpayers expense, one of them now walking free and another having fathered four children while incarcerated. We'd have kept Ted Bundy alive. What is right? It's a sticky wicket.

Does anyone know if Paul has recorded anything for 'Audible'? I'm really keen to hear this voice utilised in that space.

19:03 You can almost see the evil developing in her eyes in her pictures. She looks diabolical, especially, in this one.
21:49 Jane gives new meaning to the idiom "With friends like that, you don't need enemies."
I can't believe she kept getting away with these things for so long. I have to wonder why her victims would continue to drink something that tasted bad. This has happened to other poisoning victims who drank something that contained arsenic or anti freeze. If someone gave me something to drink that tasted funny, I certainly wouldn't drink it...not because I would think they were trying to poison me but because I'm extremely picky about food and drinks.

At about 20 minutes into your program, I was so stunned , shocked , I cannot find an adjective that comes anywhere close to my feelings about the Jolly Jane Toppin case , story nightmare. I can't believe that Hollywood hasn't made it into a movie. I kept wondering if anyone was ever going to catch on to her. The pure evil. The lack of any remorse. The sense of total control of every situation. I had never heard of this case or Jane. Which I'm surprised. She is the female H. H Holmes. I can't understand why she isn't famous ,/ infamous. Seeing how she manipulated the court to get not guilty by insanity, she is almost an Evil Genius in my viewpoint. Granted the law enforcement and criminal justice system was 19th and beginning 20th century. Was almost non existence. Cold calculated, she was not human. No soul. No feelings. She made Natural Born Killers look like childs play. I'm at a loss. I could analyze her for days and not scratch the surface of her existence on this planet. I'm thinking that there has to be.more information on this. I'm intrigued even though I can only stand so much evil and negativity. Holy crap.

I think I should tell you that the reason I subscribed to your channel without ever knowing what your channel was about is because I have always said in passing to my family and friends with a cockney accent, "Well! I never....!" Lol I enjoy your storytelling mostly because of the content but primarily because of your accent. 👍

As for the lynching ....it shows how times have changed .People cared more then I suppose . Today in California the two criminals would have been admired and given a Netflix series.

honestly in the hart case the two murderers got exactly what they deserved..it saved some tax money or time in prison or gave old sparky the electric chair..but the unruly mob craziness was a bit much gov Rolfe should have had an old fashioned gallows made and paid for a hang man..at least if they demanded a hanging at least an organized one at least..and no I'm not a violent nutter or anything I was just simply saying there was a better way of handling that one...

I thought the Walk of Death bloke was definitely insane. The homicidal grudges he developed against all his neighbours in turn and then attacked them is classic paranoid schizophrenia, is it not?

52:41 So the lynching did not curb kidnapping. Quelle Surprise.
I am not a big advocate for capital punishment, although it sounds as if these two deserved it. But I am certainly an opponent of extrajudicial lynching.

Brook Hart: It’s wonderful people cared enough to raise a ruckus over the kidnapping & killing of a beautiful wonderful father honoring young man who lived an exemplary life. Now today there is no Justice for many who are cruelty killed. Certainly I can understand their anger & desire for revenge. It’s never a good idea to execute revenge. Vengeance is reserved for God only, God says he will repay. We must Trust God.

If you want to read a very convincing explanation of the Borden mystery read A Private Disgrace, written by a woman who grew up in Fall River. I loved one quote. As a little girl she noticed no one visited Miss Borden, who lived down the street; and no one ever invited her anywhere. She asked her mother why. Her mother, who was not a native of Fall River, paused a moment, then said, “She was very unkind to her parents.”
I think she did it, and I think Maggie, the maid, might have helped her cover it up. Read the book I mentioned and see if you don’t agree.

Some arm chair detectives openly wonder about the possibility of incest between Lizzie and her father; cause there was lots more wrong with her than just murdering her parents. I don’t really have an opinion, except I mostly doubt it. It was a tiny house and the second story floor plan was strange, having to go through one bedroom to get to another and a door between 2 of the bedrooms that locked, meaning that the back bedroom had to be reached by using some backstairs that went to the kitchen. There were 5 adults in the house, or if such activity took place when Lizzie was an adolescent, 5 people. To me incest would have been a private activity and there just wasn’t much privacy in the house. I would have gone crazy and killed somebody, too. I guess they could have snuck to the basement, but although they didn’t have an outhouse and there was running water in the house; the privy was located in the basement, so yuck! Surely not. I don’t buy into any incest theory. One can think of anything to try to understand and explain an action, but I don’t think; without some glimmer of documentation or rumor, that incest fits the story. I just remembered another funny quote. Dinner the night before the murder was some dish made of mutton. (I have read about people eating that, but have never known anyone who actually did.)Anyway I think it was mutton soup. The next morning the menu for breakfast was hot coffee, sugar cookies, cold mutton soup (or whatever) and bananas. An attorney in town, reading that menu in the paper, while eating his own breakfast, said, and I paraphrase: “Everyone in the house, or all of them, are suspects! Anyone would be driven to murder having that be presented for breakfast!” Mr. Borden was notoriously cheap, but if the whole family thought that was an ok meal; they were all off; not just Lizzie, who used the name “Lisbeth” after her acquittal.
