Oh man. We cannot fully understand the human mind. When these unwell people feed off each other it becomes impossible to know what they are capable of doing. Thanks Paul for a fine presentation and all the historical photos.
A great, but seriously warped, story of a monstrous father& son! They both have those trademark “crazy eyes!” It once again poses that eternal question- nature or nurture… I think in this case ir was both. The sin seems to have more of a sense of learning intelligence on his side, since he did study and made progress in those arenas. But part of him was just a rotten apple fallen from his fathers tree. I was married in April of 1979 and when I think back on incidents like this that happened close to my time recollection it is pretty wild.
You have a wonderful voice to listen to. I'm glad I stumbled on your channel, and can learn about some of humanity's darker history through it. While the stories are often quite awful in their details, I think it helps to remind us that crimes are not committed by monsters, but humans - we are the monsters, and when we demonize others, we fail to acknowledge that such things are not as exceptional as we would like to believe.
I recently watched a video by a former 10 yr inmate at a US state prison. He went through some of the sentences from recent trials and gave his thoughts on how the individual would do in prison. So it was interesting in your video to learn that a fellow prisoner killed the obnoxious father. The UA-camr stated that at a certain point, people in prison just want to do their time and not be bothered by those who make it hard for everyone else and it's no surprise when those people get killed. People think that people convicted of crimes like child molesting will have a hard time, but they forget that the prison is filled with people who've done terrible things. If you behave yourself, you're likely to be alright. If you cause problems for the other inmates or are just a difficult person, you may not do so well.
I worked briefly after college for a theater company that occasionally performed at a minimum security Federal prison. We would get a lot of “Better watch yourselves, this place is full of crooks! Ha ha ha!”
That really is a myth about child molesters and child killers. Most of them are not treated any worse than the other prisoners. My friend's 3 daughters were all molested by her 2nd husband for years as children, and the SOB has done just fine in prison, unfortunately.
"I had been powerful for the first time in my life when I entered that room. But she had taken it away from me, just by being gentle, and strong, and decent." Jesus what a waste.
A local journalist covered this case, as well as other local murders in a book he wrote. The law killers I think it is. Definitely would recommend it to anyone local or beyond.
@7:14 "...his actions that day led to later speculations that Robert suffered serious harm at that school... his anger and hatred towards the establishment didn't quite align with him simply being a troubled boy who was expelled." I can see why a _normal_ empathic person would think this, in trying to make inferences about Robert's state of mind. But the fact is, psychopaths have _completely disproportionate_ levels of entitlement and pettiness, and can erupt into violent rage over (what may appear to others as) very minor slights. Which is not to say that Robert was not once a traumatised child, but I expect most of that trauma occurred in the family home.
Ken Rex McElroy of Skidmore Missouri would be an interesting topic to cover. He was the town bully. He was killed in front of everyone but no one saw anything. That's just how things go down in America.
Rolling Stones magazine had an article about him years ago.Surprised it took them so long. The man who shot people in the El Paso ,Texas Walmart was given 99 years in prison and there is a possibility of the death sentence because he went to kill Hispanics which would be a federal hate crime.
I lived in Dundee when the dreadful dreadful murder took place at St John’s School. It was totally unheard of at the time for a shooting to take place in a school and I remember being terrified as the school I went to at the time was not far from St John’s. The monsters involved in this story darkened the city of Dundee and I have never ever forgotten the bravery shown by the young teacher and the nurse.
Such a lot of sad fates in these stories, and so many wasted lives, even if you are a master in describing them... (you should consider working as a narrator for Audiobooks, I'd love listening to them, so many great talents on UA-cam.) And BTW: "IHS" Is a Christian acronym, meaning (according to Wikipedia): ΙΗΣΟΥΣ ΗΜΕΤΕΡΟΣ ΣΩΤΗΡ, Iēsous Hēmeteros Sōtēr, *'Jesus our Saviour'* or in Latin *Jesus Hominum (or Hierosolymae) Salvator*. It's a bit like the black metal people, wearing upside-down crosses, claiming it to be "Satanist", but it's actually a Peter Cross, and a symbol of deep humility, when Peter didn't feel worthy to die like his Savior and Lord. Edit: Also the pentagram is actually a symbol of the 5 wounds of Christ.
Well done ol' chap👍😱☠️🎬 you put that one together really well🧐🇬🇧🆘 Real sadness with the young teacher 😢 and for the son a little seems he had a special dad.....🗣️🆘🇬🇧 But still BRAVO great story telling..
Surprised I don’t remember hearing my Mum talking about this. She was a teacher not too far away from Dundee at the time. She was a working class Birmingham girl so no sheltered flower but she was shocked at some of the things the teachers got away with in Scotland especially the older male ones. There wasn’t much educating going on a lot of the time.
I FIRMLY believe, if a murderer is deemed mentally out of sorts after comitting a murder, that mental instability is even more reason, he should be put away for life, no parole or removed from the planet. Will people never figure that out? These circumstances never change. Sonny Mone stabbed by a fellow inmate? Criminals know what true justice is!
A lot of people like to claim that the world is more violent and crime-filled than any other time in history. You just have to look back at stories like this to know that it just isn’t true.
"Like father, like son" is an old adage that proved to be true in this case. It's hard for any right-thinking person to fathom a father who was jealous and yet proud of his son for murdering people, even including a pregnant woman and a police officer. The prisoner who stabbed Sonny to death should have gotten early release in gratitude of getting rid of a brutal, cold-blooded killer. I guess the only good thing you can take away from this story is most of us don't come from families this bad, thank God.
Disgusted at what looks like the sexism of the time. Nanette Hanson’s death certificate has a wavy ink line where occupation is listed, as if a married woman couldn’t have a professional identity. She literally died doing her job. Interestingly her father was a retired Police Superintendent. She’d only married the April before she was murdered and her funeral was at the same church at Ben Rhydding, Ilkley.
Back on those days, most married women didnt work & pregnant women definitely didn’t work outside the house. Even married women would keep pregnancy secret from the workplace so they could continue to get a paycheck.
How do you know that wasn’t common practice by the person who filled it out? Maybe they left it blank for most people they worked on. Just automatically jumping to sexism is ridiculous. Calling someone disgusting over a hunch is also.
@@HarupertBeagleton-dz5gw I said what looks like sexism? There would have been rules for filling them in consistently, it would have been done the same by everyone. The sexism would be the authorities not the individual. And they were sexist, plenty of government jobs in the 50s and 60s were still requiring women to resign on marriage.
@@HarupertBeagleton-dz5gw It is also sexist that on my Marriage cert as late as 1990 they only required I give my father’s name not my mother’s. No idea if they still do that.
I will never understand the softness people feel for murderers and cowards- He "suffered" at the primary school... Sooo that gives him some kind of "motive"? we are supposed to feel sorry or give a "reason/excuse" for these monsters. I think that's the problem... people keep sheltering and softening and reasoning for these monsters. then and today. I just don't understand why. They don't need or deserve any kindness. its not rational and its too little too late. Meanwhile- people don't mind causing harm and saying harsh things or abusing children in real time.. who are very alive and have the chance to change or to keep them safe BEFORE they get corupted but people don't care. The harshness and lack of empathy for well and alive children appals me. - Ive watched and had to correct adults shaming and abusing their own kids, corrected adults who "lack patience or caring" for children that have "adhd/too much energy" and they don't show any remorse or understanding... But give them a story- about a grown man- that abuses and murders and does everything horrible imaginable and somehow they can muster some kind of pitty and woe? Somekind of understanding??? Am I missing something? - Or are these people sick??? Take your time and energy and what little amount of care or empathy and put it towards the future. Protect the children and babies. BEFORE monsters get to them. Stop babying the murderous. Stop giving them a platform to continue to live. They don't deserve it. Bless the teachers and the people who suffered.
A chilling tale of father and son murderers is both horrifying and fascinating. Their dark deeds reveal how sometimes a bad apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

Afterall there are many seriel killers who have great loving parents and great childhoods yet they still decide to go and kill people, I think it has more to do with who they are and the kind of person they are regardless I it's mental illness or they are just plain evil what ever reason they have I think it has nothing to do with how they are raised as I said his siblings had the exact same childhood yet they didn't go on to kill people and many people including myself have had very crappy childhoods yet we don't go and kill people.
@@annied1827 totally agree, I was abused and had other horrific things happen to me as a child, no excuse, no explanation.
I too had terrible things happen to me during my childhood, but I did have positive consistent love in my life from family members so maybe that helped me to arrive into adulthood as a well adjusted, compassionate and empathetic woman 🤔
What do you all think? If there is undisclosed abuse from certain family members, but unconditional love and affection from others within the family and community does it make a positive difference 🤔
As a Brit, of a certian age, I am totally astonished that I know nothing of this; nothing rings a bell at all.
Individually two of the most unpleasant creatures ever to exist in the UK, as father and son......................... If there is a hell, I hope that they both stay there a very long time.
As ever, a great true story, told extremely well.
Not familiar to me either and my family were living in Scotland in the late 60s though had moved away by the time of the later events.
@@nicolad8822 and Birdman Likewise. IN 1968, I was just 19 years old and married. I remember nothing of this. My time was preoccupied with my Husband and raising a family!
Looking back, there are so many events in the news that I don't recall.
Love your delivery and the time period of the crimes. I know this is not a UK case, but hope you consider covering the Daisy de Melker poisonings in South Africa.
Just incredibly sad all the way around. You don't want to believe any of it could happen, but you know it does. Sad.
Best story telling, and narration on yt.
Most horrifying words: "However, that is not the end of the story." OMG
I can't help but wonder about the life Robert's sisters led.
"I had been powerful for the first time in my life when I entered that room. But she had taken it away from me, just by being gentle, and strong, and decent."
Jesus what a waste.
A local journalist covered this case, as well as other local murders in a book he wrote. The law killers I think it is. Definitely would recommend it to anyone local or beyond.
I greatly enjoyed this story. Thank you for sharing! 💛
Loving these stories, beautifully narrated, so very interesting. Glad I subscribed.
Ohh Mr Brodie you are saving me from another longggg week, ❤❤❤
Hello Lona, how are you doing today, hope you’re fine and safe from the COVID-19 virus??
Great video. Very informative and interesting. Great job❤
0:42 Is that photo the Mones children? The adults look more like grandparents than parents. Robert Sr was only 19 when Robert Jr was born.
I remember this well. I grew up in Dundee and went to another local primary school.
Love your delivery!
_Isn't it always heartwarming to see when father and son indulge in the same hobby?_
😣❗
Isn't it just truly touching?
@7:14 "...his actions that day led to later speculations that Robert suffered serious harm at that school... his anger and hatred towards the establishment didn't quite align with him simply being a troubled boy who was expelled."
I can see why a _normal_ empathic person would think this, in trying to make inferences about Robert's state of mind. But the fact is, psychopaths have _completely disproportionate_ levels of entitlement and pettiness, and can erupt into violent rage over (what may appear to others as) very minor slights. Which is not to say that Robert was not once a traumatised child, but I expect most of that trauma occurred in the family home.
I’m glad the ring help to get him, well I never hi from Sandy, oregon I just love your voice ❤
I love your voice and calm manner, I would listen to you read anything!
Hello Carol, how are you doing today, hope you’re fine and safe from the COVID-19 virus??
Who tf brags about their son murdering an innocent, pregnant woman??
Someone like Andrew Tate would.
@@ticketyboo2456More like you I would say
Ken Rex McElroy of Skidmore Missouri would be an interesting topic to cover. He was the town bully. He was killed in front of everyone but no one saw anything. That's just how things go down in America.
That sounds fascinating. I'd be very interested to hear about that.
@@grannym2880 the last thing I ever saw said about him was he "needed Killin". That's pretty much justification around here.
That case was covered. Maybe monsters? Or that chapter? Oh and he seemed to deserve his fate as he was threatening to kill yet another local citizen.
@@eleanorchorao4875Both channels are great as well. I agree!
Rolling Stones magazine had an article about him years ago.Surprised it took them so long. The man who shot people in the El Paso ,Texas Walmart was given 99 years in prison and there is a possibility of the death sentence because he went to kill Hispanics which would be a federal hate crime.
Robert never had a chance : from the moment his mother abandoned him , his fate was sealed
(you should consider working as a narrator for Audiobooks, I'd love listening to them, so many great talents on UA-cam.)
And BTW: "IHS" Is a Christian acronym, meaning (according to Wikipedia): ΙΗΣΟΥΣ ΗΜΕΤΕΡΟΣ ΣΩΤΗΡ, Iēsous Hēmeteros Sōtēr, *'Jesus our Saviour'* or in Latin *Jesus Hominum (or Hierosolymae) Salvator*.
The five pointed star was first used by the goddess Ishtar in ancient Sumeria, according to archaeology.
his voice is so smooth & calming… so relaxing
That really was a “well I never “ just a harrowing story.
Well done ol' chap👍😱☠️🎬 you put that one together really well🧐🇬🇧🆘
Real sadness with the young teacher 😢 and for the son a little seems he had a special dad.....🗣️🆘🇬🇧 But still BRAVO great story telling..
Criminals know what true justice is? What? You okay?
I was RIVETED by this entire story! My goodness!
Evil begets evil. A gripping and terrible tale to be sure.
A lot of people like to claim that the world is more violent and crime-filled than any other time in history.
You just have to look back at stories like this to know that it just isn’t true.
Awesomeness, I love this guy and the way he tells the story, makes it even creepier.
I remember getting sent home by the police that day. We weren't allowed out until the news came they had been caught.
6 months pregnant? Oh that’s horrible
The look of hate on those monsters faces is spine chilling.
Wow. That was a wild ride.
What would the world be like if all children had safe, happy homes?
Very good story teller…❤️❤️❤️
Brilliant absolutely brilliant.. So well read. Thanks
@@HarupertBeagleton-dz5gw How do we know? Because it would have been against the rules to leave it out routinly.
Another great episode. ❤❤❤
Thankyou for an amazing yet awful bit of history. I like the ending words, along the lines of "take care". Cheers.
Subscribed. Really like your channel.
Welcome aboard!
Robert's crimes were horrible, but what a sad little life he's had.
Thank you brilliant! 👍👏
I Just love your voice❤️
Thought provoking story of truly evil people. Thank you for posting.

A chilling tale of father and son murderers is both horrifying and fascinating. Their dark deeds reveal how sometimes a bad apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
