ARTIST INTRODUCTION:
Sonny John Moore (born January 15, 1988), known professionally as Skrillex, is an American DJ and record producer. Growing up in Northeast Los Angeles and Northern California, he joined the post-hardcore band From First to Last as the lead singer in 2004. He recorded two studio albums with the band (Dear Diary, My Teen Angst Has a Bodycount and Heroine) before leaving to pursue a solo career in 2007. He began his first tour as a solo artist in late 2007. After recruiting a new band lineup, Moore joined the Alternative Press Tour to support bands such as All Time Low and the Rocket Summer, and appeared on the cover of Alternative Press' annual "100 Bands You Need to Know" issue.
After releasing the Gypsyhook EP in 2009, Moore was scheduled to record his debut studio album, Bells, with producer Noah Shain. He ceased production of the album, however, and began performing under the name Skrillex, distributing the dubstep EP My Name Is Skrillex for free download on his official MySpace page. Subsequently, he released the Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites EP in late 2010 and More Monsters and Sprites EP in mid-2011, both of which have since become moderate commercial successes. On November 30, 2011, he received five Grammy Award nominations at the 54th Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist and won three: "Best Dance/Electronica Album", "Best Dance Recording", and "Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical". In December 2011, the BBC announced he had been nominated for their Sound of 2012 poll. The same month, he was also named MTV's Electronic Dance Music Artist of the Year. Skrillex released his first studio album Recess in 2014. His second and third albums, Quest For Fire and Don't Get Too Close, were released one day apart in 2023.
Skrillex has won eight Grammy Awards, more than any other electronic dance music artist. Skrillex has collaborated with Diplo and Boys Noize to form the groups Jack Ü and Dog Blood respectively. It was announced on Moore's 29th birthday, that he reunited with From First to Last and released a single named "Make War". In 2017, Skrillex produced and mixed 8, the eighth studio album by the rock band Incubus. In July 2017, Skrillex released another single featuring debuting solo artist Poo Bear.

the guys aged like fine wine from the old skrillex to this god of a producer and DJ he is now, its crazy how far hes come
The level of maturity in this set. It’s like everything he’s done in the past has culminated into this set the the two new albums. So damn good!
100%
It’s a masterpiece 💯
Yo honestly, shit is top notch
22:55 Porter and Skrillex go way back in time.
Skrillex created a record label back in 2011 called OWSLA. The label's first release was Porter Robinson's debut EP Spitfire
👏👏
Spitfire was downright AGGRO but SO SOOO SOOOOOO GOOD
This is one of the coolest ways anyone has ever teased an album, goes incredibly hard
so simple. I've got a new album coming out. It goes like this
i think this is an album for everyone, regardless of what kind of music you usually listen to 🎉
💯
Agreed
Totally agree. Even a good friend of mine who usually only listens to classical music likes this album
Skrillex is in another level. His actual state is WAAY better than the old one. (His old music still masterpieces anyway
Since I'm not sure anyone has explained it yet, in case you haven't looked it up yet that bit with the interview around 10:40 is Pete Wentz (bassist for the band Fall Out Boy) and Sonny Moore (lead vocal of the band From First To Last, before he started producing electronic music as Skrillex). Skrillex (who was 17 at the time of the interview iirc) and Pete Wentz were friends and at the time in 2005 Fall Out Boy had just started exploding in popularity, of course they'd go on to become one of the biggest pop/punk bands while Sonny became one of the most influential electronic artists. Later in that interview Sonny actually talked about how fascinated he was with electronic music, especially the more experimental stuff like OG dubstep, but at that time he was only writing lyrics and singing over other tracks just for his own amusement. You can look up "Skrillex 2005 Warped Tour" on youtube if you wanna find the whole thing
that's so cool! will check this out 👌
“How did he make that sound?” Is what got so many big producers into the game years ago. Skrillex has always been like that. Glad it hasn’t changed.
Yooooo I finally found the best reaction of Quest for Fire !!!!!! dammnnn dude 😍😍
Eyyy thanks Harvin! Glad you enjoyed it 💯
@@a-benmusic brooo my only complain is, whyyy the mix is in mono 😢
16:11 "wow.. that was for sure my favorite drop" Next drop: bet 😈
Skrillex went way back to the roots of OG Dubstep with those fm basses. This album is supposed to be more minimalistic and a throwback to the good old uk underground Dubstep scene ( the real Dubstep which is very different than the brostep sound that Skrillex popularized). A quite unique sonic change for Sonny and can't wait to hear what sound he is gonna experiment with next. QFF sounds like a reply to that viral video yt " why all my homies hate Skrillex", but that's just my theory.
Iv been thinking similar. I think Sonny might have seen that video. I live in the UK and this album screams old school Uk vibes, simple FM basses as you said. Ect. I think he just got sick of the 'sound design competition' that he unintentionally started lol. The album is so clean and simple. But yet clever and modern while sounding like a throw back. 10/10 from me even though I did love his 'brostep' stuff. Hes evolved time and time again. There's no stopping him lol ✌️
exactly, ive been noticing that as well.
Glad I’m not the only one who thought that
there is no real dubstep scene, tehre was just a bunch of salty people that got mad their favourite dubstep wasnt popular for a bit, no one cared most of world outside of uk never heard of benga before scary monsters
I've been into skrillex ever since the early brostep days, and I love that he's getting the recognition he deserves from a wider audience! He's a huge inspiration and basically created an entire generation of musicians and producers, including me!
also yes the "OH MY GOOSH" sample is the same sample he used in the song that basically shot him into the limelight back in 2010, Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites :)
I thought so! It sounded so familiar 😆
23:06 I remember when my brother introduced me to both Skrillex and Porter Robinson with the albums "Recess" and "Worlds", they ARE amazing albums btw. Anyways, i saw that Skrillex dropped a collab with Porter Robinson and when i heard this part I cried, it brought back so many memories and the nostalgia hat like a train. 10/10 album
This video is so validating for me. I love Quest For Fire, this set & Don't Get Too Close so to hear your comments of approval got me especially hyped 🫶
Glad u enjoyed it Ethan!
WOOOO, TY FOR REVIEWING THIS AS A MUSICIAN OUTSIDE OF THIS GENRE. This Album deserves a lotta love, appreciate your openess and honesty to it all 🫡💖💖 great channel and content
Glad u enjoyed it duyduydan! His music is insane!
It was wonderful seeing your reaction and especially you knowing harmonic or melodic elements (I'm not as good at recognizing these). He is incredible and I love that he's still exploring his sound and it's amazing how skrillex it still sounds whether it's UK bass music or afrobeats that he's making. one of a kind.
I highly recommend Noisia’s Outer Edges album for more stuff like this but with more alien sounding effects. Members of that trio worked on at least a couple tracks off this record (Tears & Supersonic)
that'd be epic!
literally said "wait till you hear it" when you said the first drop of supersonic was the best one you've heard😂
The level of production blows my mind. So much talent.
God of production
He is something else!
best reaction I've seen yet! hell yeaaaa
Thanks Josh!
love the reaction man!
Thanks Jack!
What a great reaction
Genuine reaction. Awesome 🔥

Ur reaction is soo genuine
I subscribed
Thanks drew! Glad you enjoyed it 😊
Great reaction, bro!!!!!!!!!!!!
Seen this in shorts had to come see it for myself, I honestly think you'd do a good reaction of Fred again's boiler room performance
Will check it out!
mesmerized through the whole set
💯
Skrillex is a genre
Loved the reaction! :D
Thanks Adrian!
yeah everything abt this set is nuts
Impressive that he is on all these tunes . Like the new look Skrillex!
Legend ❤️🔥🔥💯
🙏💯
My exact reaction brother 😂 this has the be the biggest leap in dubstep technology and spiritual journey for Sonny to create this
That's why he has like 9 grammy awards lol
I like how skrillex was just vibing to his tunes
How you unintentionally predicted the “WOO!” at 16:01 😳
broooo 🤣
16:20 my favorite too dude, my favorite too :D
🙌
The traditional Indian percussion instrument is called the Tabla. You're right it is similar. But the one used in Xena is I feel some kind of a drum like instrument from the Caribbean.
Sounds more like a Darbukkah than a Tabla tbh, going with the whole middle eastern vibe with the vocal etc.
@@gurjotesansoa2588 Yes thats what. He was referring to the tabla but it's a different instrument. Only Skrillex knows what🙂🙂
@@Chetan00754 oohhhh okay, sorry bro!
The thing is he is such a talented and genius producer that despite u like him or not that’s a fact and he evolved so much over the years he has such a variety in his sets and records from dubstep to edm and other genres straight up genius. And this set is pure insanity 🤯
#1 DJ IN THE UNIVERSE 👽🐐
💯💯
is insane the way he switch from a song to another. Skrillex simply the most talented producer in the scene
Loved your reaction
Glad you liked it Pol! 💯
Have you listened to the studio album? There's so many awesome theory choices that play into the themes super well
Yes I did! He is very intentional in every chord he chose 👍
Referências Brasileiras em drops se encaixa muito bem🇧🇷🔊
Loving Skrillex 2.0 🎉🎉🎉🎉
7:45 @A-BEN As someone who recently got into mixing, what he's doing on the desk is playing multiple songs on top of each other, live EQing each song, looping, transitioning, adding effects onto the songs, and a couple of other small things like rewind playbacks. One thing I noticed was I wanted to mix Rumble and extend the intro by looping it. I did that when I mixed the song and then he did the same thing when the basement set dropped the next day (he also added a sound effect, I think Spiral). It was such an awesome feeling knowing I had the same idea as The Man himself. You can better tell what he's doing by listening to the album itself. Having mixed a bit, I can see exactly what he's doing and when, so I know he's not faking it (he is well known not to pre-record his mixes anyways) as some DJs supposedly do.
That is so dope! You should post your version of it
If you haven’t seen the skrillex four tet and Fred again time square set I would defo recommend
Will defs check this out!
we call him the godfather
🔥
skrillex is the goat
Dude can wake up the dead!!!
From dubstep to underground sound, WOW
Edit: I like his new look, not as nerdy
Edit2: if only Skrillex can play at festivals like lost lands, that would be cool, or like EDC
welcome 😂
🥵🥵
He's in his sexy era XD I'd love if you reviewed my latest set here on youtube. Love your whole vibe!!!
hamdi
I’d love to be his neighbor
why do you wear cap in all of your videos?
Why not?
that extra vox loop in rumble ruined it ngl.
Well the quest must continue cuz that shiz was not fire
Aside from the album, this man’s DJing skills are on point
