- This may have been Karyn's first national live TV appearance. She sings the song that started it all for her, courtesy of jazz-fusion keyboardist/producer Jeff Lorber, and also with backing vocals by Michael Jeffries. Song written by Carl Sturken and Evan Rogers. After the performance, Jeff chats with host Joan Rivers about jazz fusion!
Rewind back to 1986 and this brilliant Soul funk Jazz fusion smooth groove track by Jeff Lorber feat the superb Karyn White The Facts of Love
Even in 2024
If it moves funk it
Karyn White still looks amazing. She’s ageless!
The band killed it! I really like the guitar player's tone.
Each time I see this performance, I can't help but wonder what musical heights this woman could have soared to. She had beauty, she had style, she had class, she had a mesmerizing presence, she impeccable phrasing and what's more she could sing !!! LaFace records was responsible for bringing many incredible female performers to the masses such as Pebbles, TLC, and Tony Braxton, but for me Karen White was and will always be the "first lady of LaFace records".
Yep i said that to
patrick kelly she went back to regular 9 to 5 after 4 big albums marriage and divorce to award winning music producer she has updates of her life on youtube beautiful talent
Karyn was signed to Warner Bros, not LaFace. I love her music as well but she worked with La Reid and Face a lot in the beginning but wasn't a LaFace artist.
Everything you just said is one of the main reasons why a lot of Jazz musicians don't mess with singers. Karyn White was brought in to be a session vocalist on Jeff Lorber's record. But when 'Fact of Love' started blowing up, Jeff's label tried to push him to the background...on his own record! I don't care how great Karyn is(and she is great), that's just not right. The music industry is a dirty business...
They saw Karyn’s talent and presence and offered her a deal if her work with Jeff Lorber did well and the rest is history.
A Classic performance! Some people forget this song is where we first heard Karyn. What memories! Thanks for posting! :>
Jeff Lorber a Jazz legend my favorite song Private Passion
I was 11 when this came out and I was OBSESSED with this song and Karyn...I just loved her voice and jus sang her stuff to death. Thanks for puttin' this up :-)
Wow, Joan Rivers, I love you Joan
LIVE BABY!!!! that's how it's done
Jazz Fusion was such a great time. Kinda came along during the New Jack era. Lasted for about 10 years. Jeff, The Rippingtons, Najee, Hiroshima, Art Porter, etc. Which is another reason why 80s spat out the best realm of music. No doubt about it.
Jeff Lorber wrote some cold music, underrated as a keyboardist IMO.
I was exposed to Jeff Lorber in 1979, he is still in my opinion underrated!!!
Are u high? He's one of the all time greats dum dum not underrated
@@sabrinanatalie8663he's not underrated he's one of the all time greats dummy
Dang that girl had energy!
yes one of my soul funk jazz tunes of 1986 the sexy Karyn White Feat Jeff Lorber facts of love timeless
Amazing song/great live performance. I wish Karyn White would put of some new material.
+Richard Vallee She has. Her recent album is titled "Carpe Diem."
Thanks for sharing retrorhythms! This was such a great crossover for Jeff Lober, and a great for Karyn White.
This was and still is a favorite song of mine.....(FYI) The drummer for Jeff's band at the time was Bruce Carter, one of the most under rated overlooked drummers ever.(He was a member of the funk/R&B group PLEASURE. (R.I.P. Bruce)
ohhh damnnnnnn. i thought so!!!!
RIP JOAN BABY
Absolutely love these two & this song!!
I missed Karyn White concert at the Riveria theater Chicago back in the 80` s. I got to see Evln King and Denice Williams . The 80` s were the best !
What a piece she was.
Still is.
Jeff could always funk it out. Karyn White, need I say more?
baddest, sickest beat ever!!!
Awesome indeed ❤️👍💕
I had the Jeff Lorber tape with this song featuring Karyn White! FI know she sang with O'Bryan too.
Great performer.
Dave Koz (playing the EWI wind instrument) rocking the mullet...
omgosh! I didn't even notice Dave K! Thanks for pointing that out! :)
I miss the '80s!! This is one song that came up live on the airwaves back then. It was one of Karyn White's big hits back around the years 1987 or 1988. This song was released in 1986. It really has a good "beat" to it.
Dave Koz looks so young in here.
Taking me right back!
Had this on endless repeat BITD. I always wondered what happened to her career. She had a string of major hits, her career soared and then abruptly ended, leaving an unreleased album behind. We never really know what happens behind the scenes.
My love
Gorgeous.
She sang on several albums by jazz artist Eddie M in the late 90s/early 00's. There's also a couple of more recent, previously unreleased songs (from a never released album called "Sista") on her Greatest Hits CD.
CLASSIC....✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿💯💯💯💯💯
I didn't even realize he was in here. I'm gonna have to watch more closely!
thXxx Retrorhythms - Great Moment in Time Captured when Contemporary Jazz kinda got its beginnings - As If it were in its Infancy stages - Hoping for Much More of it to Show up in the near future ! * -- ROARing out of the 70s era of Folk Acid Rock - I Missed a lot of it - I was so busy trying to get my Kite back down - It was all quite a Blur -- ahahahahahaha
Wow! My peak year and a babe I woul have loved then!
@DeeNice681 He did not stop her...He bumped into her accidentally from behind...These interviews are already set up as to who will go over and talk...Karyn took an inadvertent step to her right, just as Jeff was coming forward....The name of the band is JEFF LORBER FUSION...this particular song featured KARYN WHITE, but he is the name artist, and NOT A JERK! It's his band, his interview...Her career did not suffer a bit from not doing an interview on this performance.
FACTS! (Of Love 😌)
@hollidayevery, exactly!
THIS!
I haven't herd Jeff sing background vocals-since they did -On Broadway- with Lester McFarland at RAYS HELM back in the day !
FINE...AS.... WINE....😍
@dal4018 Actually, she got her start before this...touring as a back-up vocalist with O'Bryan!!
Young Dave Koz on the EWI
I do think Jeff should have invited Karyn on the couch during the interview segment. Kind of annoyed me.
Same. I was like wait, what? At least have them both.
For what?? This is HIS song. He wrote, composed, and arranged every single thing.
Driver hot tracks back in 1987
LOL...Michael Jeffries starts to grandstand right there at the end...........
They Sound Good, Karen' Voice Is Fire🔥, I Think She Performs Better With Males💯
She seems a but it doesn't matter because she still sounds great.
Good Chocalate sistas never go out of sexy
Right and she still to this day havent aged shes more sexier than ever.
Proverbs 9:10🙏
Whos the bassist
Dave Koz blowing his hooter :-D
I used to think she was so pretty.
She still is.
ANYbody who criticized my man, can go jump in the Berkley School of Music lake!
Is that Dave Koz playing that horn?
EWI.
Hi. This is the only real live played version of this song I've seen in YT. Loved the video but was bothered by the sound. So I mirrored the left channel to the right. ua-cam.com/video/UVE7XRk6nDk/v-deo.html
Babyface grabbed her after this song, hence "I'm not your Super Woman"
I think that there was probably another plan maybe that's why Jeff didn't invite her to the couch!!
Jeff Lorber looks like Boney James on here.
At 3:37 Karyn tries to walk over to the couch but Jeff Lorber stop's her. What a jerk.
He bumped into her you dipshit.
I wondered why wasn’t she given an chance to be interviewed!
