They get exactly the same amount in benefits as anyone else in Britain, people in nearby towns are not hiring vans to bring mattresses there. How about looking closer at the inhabitants. It could be a beautiful place to live , a small town next to the sea.
Look closely at the way she tries to open her eye and stop herself looking scared when he brushes her hair while talking her she’s safe. She’s probably not safe by the look of that eye
Not to be nasty but the majority of the people shown in this documentary have serious issues, either through alcohol, drugs, lack of education and unemployment. Most don't care about or have any respect the place they live in, you can see that in the state of the area. Old furniture and rubbish strewn everywhere, and the vermin which are attracted to it. I feel sorry for the people who are actually trying to live normal lives in what seems to be a human skip for the hopeless and helpless. The council should take the majority of the blame however, unless the attitude of the residents change, it will always be a dump no matter what the council do.
That's not fair. From what I've seen, the residents get together to do the best they can to sort & tidy their environment. It's the councils duty to upgrade the buildings & roads. The council have left to hem to live in slum conditions . It's a disgrace on the councils part. Homeless ppls are generally grateful for anything that most wouldn't or couldn't put up with.
Unfortunately, many people will not take responsibility for their own welfare and those around them - it's always someone else's fault. Though this isn't unique to Jaywick - far from it.
I’m going to stop drinking… after this 3lt bottle of Frosty Jacks. The closest that cider has been to an apple is the factory cleaner walking past an apple tree on their way to work.

No money, no job, no education, no skills, no motivation, no work ethic, no plan for the future, Let's have 1 kid every 9 months that will make our lives much better.
Support centers, community centers were so so valuable. Not everyone is sharp, not everyone had chance to be educated out of poverty, so with these places they could go for help before things get too much or drugs, they can access training...but noooo...and we should ask why these places are not there for everyone. Often people come into their own in 40s even and ready to train....
