The Twelfth Doctor and Clara Oswald are absolutely the best in my opinion. Their relationship and their characters - as you said - is incredibly nuanced, and they are so captivating as a duo and complement each other extremely well.
Clara Oswald and the 13th Doctor ("All twelve of them." "No sir. All THIRTEEN!") would have been brilliant if not for one problem. Peter Capaldi. You read that correctly. Peter Capaldi was the only problem. Swap him with John Hurt and the Doctor and Clara's relationship would have been perfect. This is a unique case of two potentially fantastic Doctors simply being in the wrong places in the timeline. Capaldi was much better suited to the 9th Doctor than the 13th and I could easily imagine him sending Daleks to hell in the Time War. We might have even been able to actually watch him do it in Day of the Doctor because Capaldi still had the stamina to pull off action scenes. John Hurt was brilliant as 9 but didn't get enough screen time and would have been even better as 13. He knew the difference between a tired old man who's just done with life and a sociopathic asshole who takes out his problems on his "carer". For example, if Hurt was delivering the "You let me down" speech, he would have said it with quiet disappointment, not hypocritical rage. And yes, that speech WAS hypocritical because 13 had been letting Clara down for the entire Season. However, if Hurt was doing that scene, there would have been some self-awareness about the part he played in pushing Clara to the point of betraying him.
Ian, Barbara, and Vicki are the best TARDIS team. No matter what scenario they find themselves in, the cast has such magnetic chemistry that you can't help but be entertained and enthralled.
I love 11 and the Ponds and 10 and Donna, but I really do think 12 and Clara have so much development with each over Seasons 8 and 9. They have so much chemistry and I think Clara is the only companion the Doctor has ever and will never go as far to protect as in Hell Bent.
You're one of the good ones. Always remember that she has been the Doctor's companion for the majority of his lives and there in the most important moments.
If I was writing the Rose and Martha era, all the romance/love triangle stuff would be removed in favor of more Jack, oh and Martha would've used her medical skills more often and not bizarrely turned into a soldier...
12 and Clara for sure. They're lucky to have had such a length of time to develop their friendship and their understandings of each other. Clara pushes him, and he pushes her - first for the better, and then to this zany codependency that you want to root for but you know is bad for them both. And, unlike their other analog, 10 and Donna, the Doctor does face the consequences of his own actions. It's funny, they both develop into each other - Clara into the Doctor, quick thinking and willing to sacrifice herself for others, and 12 into Clara (at the end of Season 8), allowing his love and recklessness to overwhelm him. In terms of which is more dangerous with their memories in tact, that's clearly on 12, and I'm grateful Moffat stuck the landing and ensured his memories were wiped, not hers. It's insane how the Doctor/Clara dynamic grew from a pretty trite take (11 and Clara being kind of, not really, flirty, with some just inappropriate and unwanted comments like the skirt deal) to one of the deepest and most nuanced in the series, and one which really valued the female companion as a person with agency and deserving of respect.
10th and Donna, how is this even a question? He's brilliant and she's fucking magnificent. They are just two mates in space. I will admit, Clara and 12th are very close to being perfect, like absolutely perfect but here's the thing, nobody can beat Donna Noble.
My favourite team is One, Ian, Barbara and Vicki. Although thats mainly just for One and Vicki. For the first time the doctor has an equal, someone who is both able to keep up with the doctor and won't follow his instructions blindly, which was Susan's problem. On top of that she actually feels like she wants to be there, something that is quite rare for the first doctors run. For the first time it feels like the doctor has a friend, rather than an obligation. I think this is shown best at the end of The Chase, after Ian and Barbara leave and Vicki does the Donna thing of claiming she'll never leave. (Sidenote; Vicki should've stayed on til Dalek Master Plan and taken Katrina's place as the one who dies. I haven't watched the myth makers yet but it would've been a perfect exit for her, she never wanted to leave so her leaving out of her own volition feels wrong. On top of that The Doctor's first true friend also being the first companion to die, and at the hands of the daleks!? Its just *chef's kiss*)
Listen when Susan is done right, there's no topping her- but this comment won me over on prioritising Vicki. Everyone's also just a bit more fun by that season.
I sadly never watched the classic era 10 and donna: Favourite doctor, favourite companion. But that doesn't feel like the perfect team. 11 and ponds: Feels like a family the doctor never had in that way. Always help each other but there is something better. 12 and clara: It can't be better. Like you said. It feels like clara is THE companion. They have this "addiction" for adventures. They really love it. I know every team does that but just look at the end of series 8 xmas special. They also have the good cop bad cop thing which is.. interesting. They are both clever. Clara feels a bit like another doctor in fact. Sorry for my bad english. I'm german

Personally, I enjoyed Bill & Nardole's run with the Twelfth Doctor more than his run with Clara impart for your reasoning that it brought the best out of Twelfth but also because I probably enjoyed Bill's character way more than most people, albeit I wish their run was longer so we could get attached as you said and tie up loose ends like who her Mum was in the Whoniverse Edit: Also Missy is technically a part of the Series 10 TARDIS Team
Imho, it's 10 and Donna bc they had an amazing chemistry of best friend. Not too complicated, no love triangles, no mentoring, just simply friends. It's really fun how Donna can put 10 down to earth without trying to dominate him. It's just fun to see just normal mates traveling around time and space
I'd pick the 10 and Donna, but your comments on 12 and Clara are really winning me over on those two...PLEASE please do a video focusing on those two, their relationship, and why series 8 and 9 isn't as bad as people say!!!!
To be honest, I didn't enjoy Lucie at the start, but I really loved Lucie Miller in the later series. You could just tell that when she thought she lost the Doctor it broke her, she needed him back and when he returned she was ecstatic, then later on that all came crashing down when she realised 8 had lied to her, and her story eventually came to a tragic close in Lucie Miller/To The Death which put her to the very extremes of her character and forced her to make the ultimate sacrifice. I'd have to say that 8 really does have some of the best companions, Charley had a really interesting arc, I adore Lucie Miller mostly from series 2-4, Molly O'Sullivan had a good level of independence for a character from the early 20th century and had a really fun (and at times depressing) arc, Liv Chenka and Helen Sinclair have some REALLY good moments (Liv Chenka's determination in Ship in a Bottle in Doom Coalition 4 had me nearly in tears with one of the speeches she made to try and persuade the Doctor to not give up) hell, even the companions shown in that one 4 companion eighth Doctor special that introduced Mary Shelley as a companion were interesting characters.
Erin Mary is still my favourite 8 companion. Those stories are amazing and the mother of sci-fi as a Who companion (gothic 8th Doctor too) is just inspired. I love it when expanded media shows historical figures make for great companions.

@@RG-ew1zz Yeah well, new who is more well-made than that black and white stuff anyway. I snoozed my way through a couple of old who episodes. The dialogue is bland and the characters are one-dimensional.
I like the rival dynamic between Romana and 4th because most doctors just explain and lead but with someone similar to him, constantly clashing, made them perfect.
Honestly I freaking love the TARDIS team in Series 10. You've got Bill, who's a huuuuge palate cleanser after Clara Oswald (She's just so attached to the Doctor that it's infuriating don't @ me). Bill is having the time of her live in the TARDIS but is still willing to tell at the Doctor's face when he needs it. Then you've got Nardole. He was the original companion to Professor Doctor (what I call Series 10 12th Doctor) and he's always been willing to put him in his place. But at the same time he can just be freaking hilarious. He may have technically been the comic relief character, but there's more to him than just that. Even Missy has a compelling arc. World Enough and Time/ The Doctor Falls felt like such a payoff to her arc in Series 10. She finally got to be considered a real companion. Finally, Professor Doctor. This is easily the best version of the 12th Doctor and, in my opinion, maybe even the best we've seen of the Doctor in the revived era. He's kind and is finally shown having the time of his life in the TARDIS (both things this version arguably has over series 8 & 9). It's the final chapter in the 12th Doctor's arc of learning kindness and friendliness. Again, this is just such a palate cleanser after the last 2 seasons. The 12th Doctor basically got better and better with each season he was in.
@@onthepalehorse Just not my thing. She kinda grated on me and I really disliked the "let's insert her into every important moment in the doctors history thing". Plus Moffat just couldn't let her go, it was so tedious.
Suprateek Nag she's boring has no personality and is used as plot device and always argues with the doctor I don't see the big love for Clara I literally can't name one character trait she has except saying run u clever boy
12, Missy, Bill and Nardole. I don’t care if it was only a few minutes of one episode, they were the best together. *Fantasy Team: 12, Missy, River, Jack, and Nardole.*
Personally I like when The Doctor has a companion that’s like a student. That’s why I always liked the dynamic of the fourth Doctor and Leela. Even though Tom had better chemistry with Liz Sladen, and it doesn’t get any better than them, I think Leela doesn’t get enough love. Ace, and Bill, had this kind dynamic with 7, and 12. Wish we’d seen more of Bill. Damn Cybermen!
For me, the best Tardis Teams are the ones that feel like family, and I only got that family feeling twice: with the Ponds and with Donna and Ten and Wilfred, because I felt his relationship with the Doctor as part of Ten&Donna. So, for me Ten, Donna and Wilfred and Eleven with the Ponds (River included) are a tie. Maybe the Ponds are a little bit higher, but it’s still hard to decide.
Romana II (Time Lady) and #4. Great companion and equal. Romana II was basically the first female doctor and it worked fantastically! They were almost like brother and sister, each knowing the other too well to let them get away with too much. It's refreshing and fun to see them playing off of each other even these days after we have seen so much.
12 and Clara deepened my emotional investment in this show to its current unhealthy extent. I'm not sure if it's the characters, or just that Coleman and Capaldi play off each other so well. Clara helped me understand 12 better, and 12 helped me understand Clara better. They were fun and funny together, but they also had more emotional depth and complexity than I honestly ever expected from a doctor-companion duo. There are other teams I loved: 9, Jack and Rose chief among them. Of course 10 and Wilfred.

My favorites are 9, Rose Tyler, and Captain Jack & 10, Martha, and Captain Jack. Can you guess what connects both?
the tardis
If I was writing the Rose and Martha era, all the romance/love triangle stuff would be removed in favor of more Jack, oh and Martha would've used her medical skills more often and not bizarrely turned into a soldier...
I think soldier Martha was badass.
Clara and 12 is my fav. It’s completely the opposite of 11 and Clara and so so so nuanced.
Amy + Rory + The Doctor = Best TARDIS Team

Pick: Amy, Rory and 11
Favourite: Amy, Rory and 11
Different Answer: 4, Romana 2 and Duggan
I sadly never watched the classic era
10 and donna:
Favourite doctor, favourite companion. But that doesn't feel like the perfect team.
11 and ponds:
Feels like a family the doctor never had in that way. Always help each other but there is something better.
12 and clara:
It can't be better.
I'm german
1.) 6 and Evelyn
2.)5 Tegan Nyssa, and Turlough(Post Cobwebs)
3.)11 and The Ponds(All 3 of them)
4.)2 Jamie and Zoe
5.)10 and Donna
I have to say an equal tie for first place with:
Doctor, Zoe and Jamie
And
Doctor and Donna
Rob Vegas those characters only knew the doctor for one episode, what are you talking about?
@@brickerytickerybuilder1111 the second dr episodes from the 1968-69 and the tenth Dr with donna in 2008

@@brickerytickerybuilder1111 um Jamie has the highest story/episode count of ANY companion in who history 22 stories 118 episodes, the only one who comes close is the brig, with sarah just behind them! What are you talking about!!!!
@@julieeverett7442 I think ur missing the joke of the fact when the time lords sent them back they only remembered their first adventure with the doctor
The Doctor-Donna though. That was an epic duo, funny in just the right spots and complimenting each other so well
Personally, I enjoyed Bill & Nardole's run with the Twelfth Doctor more than his run with Clara impart for your reasoning that it brought the best out of Twelfth but also because I probably enjoyed Bill's character way more than most people, albeit I wish their run was longer so we could get attached as you said and tie up loose ends like who her Mum was in the Whoniverse
Edit: Also Missy is technically a part of the Series 10 TARDIS Team
AMY
11
RORY
ARE
THE
BEST
they are a family. rory and amy are the doctors parents in law!!!!
Either 6th doctor and Evelyn or 6th doctor and Frobisher, 6 is my favourite so I am incredibly biased
The entire time I was like WTF is the guy from A Town Called Mercy doing there? 😂
"Whilst, as we all know, Yaz is actually a ghost and can only be seen by one of the main characters." LOL. Fuck. That was amazing.
My faves are:
4 and Sarah
12 and Clara
10 and Donna
7 and Ace
11 and Ponds
Clara is neither my favourite companion nor character but her dynamics with 12... It’s amazing
Hands down Sarah and Harry. Although Harry was only there for a short time he was an excellent character well acted
I know Twelve and Clara is clearly better, but Eleven and Clara will always have a special place in my heart as my first.
THE PONDS
(My favourite is Martha and the Doctor though)
I love the dynamic between 7, Mel, Ace and Glitz in Dragonfire. I wish they were together in more stories.
For me,
New: Capaldi and Clara
Classic: Tom Baker and Sarah Jane Smith or Tom Baker and Romana
I'd pick the 10 and Donna, but your comments on 12 and Clara are really winning me over on those two...PLEASE please do a video focusing on those two, their relationship, and why series 8 and 9 isn't as bad as people say!!!!
Frankly, I wouldn't know where to stop.
@@SamyulDavis Absolutely fair!
Clara and capldi
@@SamyulDavis I still need to listen to stories like The Silver Turk, I'll get there eventually but buying big finish stuff is expensive, especially with all the stuff in July
Think it has to be the Ponds for me.
I have to pick any team in which Jamie was present. He was the absolute best Doctor companion in the world.
Hard agree. Stick around for the 2nd Doctor retrospective for him to get all he deserves
@@SamyulDavis Absolutely.
can’t believe you left out liz shaw
Sam: says 5, Tegan, Nyssa, and Adric are trash.
Me: *holding back tears and anger because I’d just finished watching Season 19 and fell in love with all of them but knowing full well that he’s completely right.*
Okay. No, that’s fine. I understand.
It’s a tough decision.
Clara and 12th are objectively the best. Don't change my mind cuz I won't.
2nd place is 12th and River Song.
Freshairkaboom Gaming obviously a new-who fan
@@RG-ew1zz Yeah well, new who is more well-made than that black and white stuff anyway. I snoozed my way through a couple of old who episodes. The dialogue is bland and the characters are one-dimensional.
Doctor and Donna. Perfect in every way.
I would say out of those top few, 11 with Amy and Rory, but 10 and Donna still come close.
4th Doctor and Romana II
12th Doctor and Clara
The Ponds are my favourite
I like the rival dynamic between Romana and 4th because most doctors just explain and lead but with someone similar to him, constantly clashing, made them perfect.
Clara and 12. I'm horrifically biased, but I don't care.
How are you biased?■
Polly and Ben rock. Love Steven and Vicki too. Both teams have some of the best Big Finish stuff.
Pick: 12 and Clara
My fave: Wilfred and 10
Wilf if amazing, and just effortlessly steals every scene he's in.
11 and the ponds and river song. I love it
Honestly I freaking love the TARDIS team in Series 10.
I agree completely
eleven and the ponds are the frickin best, they had so much chemistry imo and really seemed like a funky little friend group i just loved them
Your love of Clara and hate of Lucy Miller hurts my soul. XD
What's wrong with Clara
@@onthepalehorse Just not my thing. She kinda grated on me and I really disliked the "let's insert her into every important moment in the doctors history thing".
Plus Moffat just couldn't let her go, it was so tedious.
mood, 8 and Lucie Bleedin' Miller are a dream team
Suprateek Nag she's boring has no personality and is used as plot device and always argues with the doctor I don't see the big love for Clara I literally can't name one character trait she has except saying run u clever boy
The dynamic between Gram and Ryan probably reminds the doctor of himself and his granddaughter.
Pick: Doctor and Donna
Favorite: Doctor and Donna
I do not commit the sins that others clearly have.
Tennant and tate, that team is absolutely incredible!!
Best:Donna and 10
My Favourite (guilty): Adric, Nyssa, Teegan and 5
I agree with both of them, guilty as charged
Nothing to be guilty about. They're great.
Its Dr. 10 and Donna all the way!!!! No questions asked, followed by a very close second with the Ponds.
george yarbrough - YES. I love Eleven, Amy and Rory to bits, but Ten and Donna were absolutely PERFECT. “Oi Spaceman!” “Oi Earth Girl!”
10th and Wilfred mot
Clara+12 favourite from this list and i couldn't stop smiling when you were talking about the duo
1The Doctor and Clara
2Bill, Missy , The Doctor and Missy
3Donna and The Doctor
12, Missy, Bill and Nardole. I don’t care if it was only a few minutes of one episode, they were the best together.
*Fantasy Team: 12, Missy, River, Jack, and Nardole.*
The Best: Ten and Donna
My Favorite: Four and Romana II
ah man, as much as I love the doctordonna I'm gonna have to go with Clara, because their dynamic is just so great and they just go so far
I couldn't agree with you more when it comes to twelve and Clara they are just like you said transcendental together.
11 and the Ponds. I love their comedy so much.
10, Donna and Martha deserved a whole season but I respect that Martha wanted to move on with her life.
Absolutely loved Martha. I really appreciated that she was a fairly big part of the following series too, despite not being the primary companion.
Nine, Rose, Jack. I love the Ponds too, mostly thanks to The Girl Who Waited being my favourite story ever.
I like to think of that episode being unofficially called Rory's Choice... astounding story. I approve of your main TARDIS team pick too 😋
The brigadier is absolutely a companion and absolutely the best with any of the doctors he meets
Pond (s) + Eleven is my favourite, though I too grew up with the Fifth Doctor and teams.
"Doctor Donna, oh S class" i was expecting that. Perfect
Pick: 11 and the Ponds.
Favourite: 9, Rose, Jack and Mickey.
Of course 10 and Wilfred.
oh my god i wrote this just before watching the video and I'm so used to people having mixed (or negative) feelings about Clara as a companion you unapologetically saying exactly what I've always thought took me so off guard i'm shook. surprise validation is a rare and amazing thing
