This is what happens when you have a really bad Nebraska team that finished with a losing record and a good (by Big 12 standards) Kansas team. In the long run, this is a team that has been the Big 12 doormat for the Big 12 for over a decade. The Jayhawks are just 11-102 in Big 12 play since this great season with four of those eleven wins coming the following season. Since, KU has failed to win more than 1 Big 12 game for 12 consecutive seasons! The Big 12 is just the 5th best conference in college football and will be about 7th after the departure of Oklahoma and Texas. I'd like to say KU may fair better among those 8 teams, but the Jayhawks can't even compete with them. Could you imagine if Kansas got an SEC invite? They couldn't even contain Vanderbilt on a regular basis! While a Kentucky vs Kansas matchup would be nice in basketball, the Wildcats would beat KU in football as if they were an FCS opponent and win by about 40-50 points regularly. Then, if they played someone like Alabama, the Tide could push 80-90 points per game on this club. I hope for the sake of the KU fanbase, Kansas can join something like the American Athletic Conference. I'm sure they'd love to have Kansas, plus the Jayhawks could actually compete with Tulane, South Florida, Temple and East Carolina and finish at least near middle of the pack in that conference.
If they had done a little more in the 4th quarter against Mizzou to at least take it to overtime, there's a good chance they would've won and have a chance to play for a national title. This Jayhawk team had Aqib Talib on it. Think about that.
