  • Buy the Wayne WaterBug 1/6 HP 1350 GPH water pump on Amazon here: amzn.to/2ZIaFry
    This pump can be fully submerged. It has the option of top and side discharge and connects to a standard garden hose. The pump does NOT have a float switch (although there IS a version of it that does) and you should not let the pump run dry per manufacturer's directions.
    I tried to empty my water-filled shop vac with this pump once. Since I had vacuumed wet carpet, there was lots of cat hair in the shop vac water. The pump got the job done but then had quite a bit of cat hair caught in the screen on the bottom of the pump. I would not recommend it for this purpose. It is however easy to clean and service the impeller.
    Based on my use of this pump for 1 week, I would recommend it as a buy for the type of application I was using it for (keeping a basement floor relatively dry during flood conditions). Since there is no automatic float switch, I would recommend the use of an automatic timer to control the on/off of the pump so that it does not run dry.

    That is a hard working little pump. When building some units that had underground parking, basements and light wells. That little yellow pump puts in the work! Bought it over 5 years ago and still a workhorse. Even with the floods last week.

    Just bought this Wayne Water Bug before the CA huge rainfall. Using it as I type outside for standing patio flood. I Love this pump. Thank you for showing how to clean it. I also was. Concerned about the water spitting out the hole but you assured me it was normal starting up. Thank you!

      I need it for the same thing. Do you need to plug it into an electrical outlet? @janiscatmama171

      Yes, it needs to plug into electrical outlet. I did use an extension cord but it does have a generous 10 foot cord.

      I make sure the connection plugs were not in water. I even wrapped the connection in a plastic bag for good measure. The cord itself is waterproof if not damaged.

    What kind of timer do you use that can time out at just 5 minutes? Thanks

    I got this same exact pump, I got no clue what I could have done myself but once there is more than 2 inches of water in my basement, it is on for 5 minutes and shuts down because it overheats so quickly.

    I bought this for an emergency. I have a huge drainage system installed in my back yard and front yard but will the torrential rain their is still potential flooding. I plan to set it up if there is a hurricane or close to it.

    I tried one of these that said it would work down to 1/16" water. It wouldn't. It might have brought the level to below 1/4", but not even down to 1/8". Useless for me.

    Thanks for the video, I don't think it has any cons, what you mention about the base being below the floor is not possible because it has to have air flow otherwise the absorption motor could not work

    How deep is that water? I have a space on a flat roof that is about 1 to 1m5 inches deep typically that a drummond pump won't pump because it's not deep enough.

    Thanks much for the review and all ... this will save me a lot fo headaches and maybe even my marriage! ;)
    Um, what do you think of the automatic version? Worth the money? Seems like a good idea if in case we get another rainstorm and I'm not at home. (Aw, who am I kidding ... we're in a pandemic ... I'm ALWAYS at home! lol )

    • @JohnsDIYPlayground
      @JohnsDIYPlayground  2 роки тому +2

      I didn't purchase the automatic version because it needed something like 1" or so of water before it would turn on and I cannot live with that much water in my basement before it turns on. So my solution was a smart wifi plug that ran on a timer and I would turn on every couple hours and just run the pump for 2-3 minutes at a time.

    Okay but wait.. I bought this for my above ground pool (might be stupid). But the drain leaves about 4 inches of water left. Will this rip up the vinyl?

    • @JohnsDIYPlayground
      @JohnsDIYPlayground  2 роки тому

      You might want to put some flat plastic between the soft vinyl cover and the pump… like a plastic shoe drip tray or something similar

      No worries if the pump is underwater completely. Just be sure where it is plugged in is protected from going underwater.

    This pump, like 85% of utility pumps under $275 are possibly not made by the 'brand'. There are manufacturers such as "GP Enterprises" that make a business off of an investor paying them to "Research and Develop" [Make it look unique] pumps for them to also mass produced those rebranded pumps. Zhejiang Jinmu is the other major one, and might have made this one [Hard to tell because some of these companies clearly steal from each other.]

      No because it doesn't have an on off switch. You can only do that with a smart plug.
