Very true, I have a QuickSilver 'C' weight shift glider which was one of five built for competition that I've had since 1980 and although you often need some assistance on the launch due to the weight of the tail, once it's airborne it was always a dream to fly,. BTW - the tail is not all that heavy, but due to the extra length behind you it makes it a little awkward to launch by yourself, but with practice you eventually learn how to do it. 😃 I modified the single surface airfoil with a dual surface 'Clark Y' airfoil which extended my glide ratio considerably and due to a few too many back injuries,, (work related), I am now installing a set of moped wheels, similar to Robertson's B1RD ultra - light so I can still enjoy being able to fly

@yuribezmenovthegreat4705 agreed. As someone who grew up around planes (I live in Dayton ohio not far from Wright Patterson afb and my grandpa was former air force) and I have put in 25 hours of time in Cessnas plus countless sim hours. The thing is when you are up there for real vs simulators, suddenly the whole thing becomes much more visceral and the reality of the fact you are actually in the air kicks in. For first timers it can be overwhelming and easy to second guess or freeze up. I highly suggest a few proper lessons at the very least no matter if you are flying an ultralight or not
@jerrymartin7019 lol. All jokes aside, it's easy to think that because you racked up tons of hours on flight Sims (some realistic, some not) that you will do well in real life. Now, there is a bit of truth to that. If I were on a passenger plane and the pilot went out I'd rather have the passenger who is at leasat comfortable with the dynamics of flight and understands the concepts at play, vs someone who has never even thought about a plane much less flying one. While there is a bit of crossover, it certainly does not replace the proper experience of actually being up there. The feelings and sensations of trubulance and the realization that you are now thousands of feet in the air for real and mistakes can be fatal quickly replaces any ideas you may have of being a "great pilot" the first time up. You are either stupid or lying if you say otherwise. Just like playing an instrument or another artwork, some people take to flying much quicker than others and master/grasp things easier and quicker. Hopefully, if you are brazen enough to go up alone for your first flight, you happen to be one of the "quick" learners....lol.

Nothing wrong with getting slow, the problem is when you throw in the bank angle. I used to fly my Weedhopper backwards all the time for spectators. Fly into a stiff headwind at about 10 feet off the ground and slow her right down to MCA which was about 18 knots. The Weedhopper flew beautifully just above stall speed but unlike this Quicksilver, it had the prop in front of the wing so it had the benefit of INDUCED FLOW.

I bought one from a guy in 1996. With absolutely zero flying experience and while practice taxing it on the runway I accidentally lifted off. Scared that s*** out of me. In America, a person’s actions aren’t connected to his or her health care outcomes. For example, if this guy crashes his plane, he’s not held financially responsible for the cost of care; which could be millions. And if a homosexual contracts HIV, he’s not held responsible for the cost of care; which could be millions. This disconnect between personal conduct and the cost of care is deliberate.
