I was EXTREMELY lucky I was able to patch the tank! This is meant as a bandaid and not a full repair like new silicone, but this will hopefully hold the tank over until I was able to transfer all livestock to the 150g tank. Thank you everyone for the mental supports and technical suggestions! I need to give a special shout out to EatSleepReef for the MacGyver fix! Nice save. Thanks for the video for our future leak emergency reference. You were truly lucky. A shout out thank you to EatSleepReef for your leak rescue solution.
Holy crap! Glad you handled that quickly. You did get soooo lucky... The number of permutations this could’ve been worse is a lot. What kind of water sensor tipped you off to the leak and where did you place it? I feel like that was the unsung hero of this whole situation…
Sorry it to hear that your tank leaked but thank God you were home when it happened & that Antonio gave you some great advice for a temporary fix until your 150g is up & running. Hope your corals bounce back. 👍
@@brianculater6444 i agree, i had already decided years ago to buy a new tank, you never know what someone's fish died of, or if the tank was even used for fish. i have gotten a brand new tank, everything all new.
Good save. I helped a friends tank in this kind of situation. One of the seams ended up leaking because he kept nik-ing it with the algae scrapper and over time weaken the silicone.
This really works I have a 160 gallon reef tank headed to the wall I couldn't get to the outside corner. I repaired it from the inside. I drained it past the week silicone it was still leaking. Saw this video and one other about using baking soda and liquid Super Glue. I like this one the best because he shows how he put the baking soda on. I sealed my leak from the inside of the tank about a string in my area top corner
Glad you were able to catch the leak before it was to late. I'd like to know what product you used that alarmed you to it happening. I've already had this happen twice and I'm very worried about it happening again(even though my next tank is a different tank).
Good video. You have an adorable baby and a kind wife. With a leak like that my wife would never be patient like that and I would have the additional stress and pressure.
I wouldn't recommend using any type of CA or epoxy directly on Glass. The temperature related expansion is too different from that of the native glass, but it holds strongly enough to cause stress in the glass. Ive seen catastrophic failures in tanks due to expansion cracking. Sioicone sticks to the glass well, but stays flexible enough to not cause stress fracturing of the glass.
My 60g Deep Blue tank started leaking yesterday too. My tank was only 3 months old and bought new... I guess this really is just a bad week for reefing.
Did you keep the lighting on after you partially drained the 40 gal? the SPS RTN may have been caused by over exposure to light. The water greatly reduces the par. Those sps were probably getting fried by the light while they were exposed to air.
THANK YOU SO MUCH it's 1a.m and noticed a leak on my tank I set up in the morning and the baking soda and super glue fixed it thank you thank you thank you
I just got my tank leak which kinda of like this of you... its silcon from inside is still intact but minor leaking can seen from out side edge...currently i drained water down to that and am really stressing on how to fix it.
A leaking saltwater tank is 10 times worse than a leaking freshwater tank. It is like brine on the carpets, walls, furniture, everything. Definitely worse.
Too funny, I use the same Super G,lue+Baking Soda trick to fill gaps on my models when building them. Didn't think it was strong enough to fill a leak like that. I think you might have used too much though but hey, if it works.... I'd reseal ASAP though. LOL
Reefer: I don't want to get baking soda in the tank Wife of reefer: But it's getting all over the floor Reefer: Huh? That's fine. This is why all my tanks are in my man cave in the basement, so any comments of "mess" are not brought up.

Flush fresh water through area... blow dry area, careful not to electrocute self 🥴 Acetone wipe area to be glued or silicone... Leon’s first reef nightmare, poor little dude ... 👶. Strap clamp around entire tank or wood workers hand clamp front to back light but safe pressure .... Seams easy to damage scraping with razor blades or metal scrapers ☹️. The 15O just moved up in priority, woot woot 🥳. Yeah, SPS don’t like being dry for midnight Walmart runs 😳 😂. BTW, I believe the phrase “ f- me!” Is the go to upon first detection of seam leak, which seems to occur after midnight or while out the door for a vacation, ... 😘
Did I hear you at the end say something about breaking down the 10 gallon budget tank? What is going on there (for those of us who don't use facebook ,Instagram, or snapchat)?
What are you using for your leak detection? I recently flooded our brand new house with my custom made sump that sprung a leak. Who would have thought all of the posts about acrylic sheets and glass tanks not working well would have been right?! 😂
Ak47 52 I love tech talks 🤓 for LA, I like DD WYSIWYG; clam id definitely go with DD, pistol shrimp mostly look the same so regular would be fine. I’d buy with confidence with their great guarantee!
I'm disabled and can't do to the store. I have a small slow leak in the back of a 55 gallon long fish tank. I can do the inside and out . my fish are in another tank
"9-10" years??? ….I should probably double check my 29 gallon and my 10 gallon. My 29 gallon is the only one from the two that is currently in use, but it is about 12ish years old and in constant use since I got it. My 10 gallon is probably 15, maybe 16 years old. However it is just sitting on one of my shelves in my closet right now, but I had been considering taking it out and setting it up as another nano reef...so I should probably look at both of them.
I’m hoping this works for a long time because I just re sealed my aquarium. It was a regular 10 gallon that I took apart and re sealed into a rimless tank I just didn’t seal it too great on one corner mid way down the tank and it’s leaking 😓 I really don’t want to do this all over again
Flex tape really! Sorry but that's just so hick! Empty and resilicon that's the only way 😊. Oh wait there's a bigger tank in the house that has been setting there for like an year or so. LOL

Definitely lessons learned for those buying used tanks. When in doubt re-seal.

hoohaaa0 I totally agree with you, I definitely wouldn’t of been taking my baby and my wife to Walmart on an emergency run
Emily laughing and said bye tank... savage! 😂
“Your second wife’s water broke!”...😂

You were at Walmart... Could have gotten that Flextape :P
I looked, they only have the Duck Tape version of the Flextape... figure it's not the same, lol!
Painful to watch, glad you've got it under control! Imagine (or don't!) this happening while out of town.
150 must be getting impatient... it’s now resorting to sabotaging the little guy in the middle of the night. Lol

I absolutely dread this happening. Happened a few years ago with my freshwater, at 530am lol.
Good foresight actually having a leak detector methodology. Something I need to think about doing. Hope it's never needed but...

Do you have to use super glue glass or regular super glue?
Is the water actually wet there
That is what I was wondering about too. I was thinking of replacing my saltwater tank for those reasons too. I think it is about 8 years old.

Is the mold free silicone not aquarium safe due to its hold strength or due to an added chemical or substance that may harm the fish 🐠?
The chemicals that inhibit mold are toxic to the fish.
