    I'd like to see you start a gofundme so you could get ahold of a Predator V-Twin. At the very least, keep your eyes open on marketplace for a horizontal v-twin and build with that. Twisted belt setups, even when working, are a compromise at best and introduce mechanical complexity into your builds that kind of goes against the grain of your channel - simple fairly easy builds.

      @LazloNQ I'm always on the lookout for engines. Horizontals are definitely harder to come by. I have an old opposed twin horizontal that I may try for now.

      @@DieselFuelNetwork Yeah I heard you say that in your video. I'm not a fan of those boxers, preferring the sound of the v-twin, but you work with what you've got. I was thinking about this mower at work yesterday and I wondered if you could somehow fit a jackshaft under there that would align the belt from the engine to the jackshaft better and subsequently align the other end of the jackshaft to the transmission better? Still it's starting to get more complex and this design of mower doesn't lend itself well to being modded.

      @richardyoung6496 Hahaha. Thank you. I appreciate you watching. I forgot about your slotted engine mount suggestion. That's definitely worth doing. I'm familiar with the concept. My childhood go-kart was like that, as I'm sure most are. Thank you for reminding me. That would really help with belt wear over time.

    You’re right it’s okay for slow speed. I have a 93 that is like that works great,you’ll need a mule drive like a lot of mowers used for the deck. Speed cost money how fast do you want to go 🤣🤣. Give me a mailing address and I will see what help I can do. I have eight or ten little garden tractors I play with at 58 your never to old.
    AND Never Throw anything away 🤣!! You never know what little part may save the day. Trust me when you do get it right nothing feels better. Also check out some Cycle karts I think that may give you some ideas.
    Don’t give up! Henry Ford was in his 40s when he came out with the model T . GODS SPEED .

    I'm not a big fan of twisted belt setups for the very reasons you discovered - it's not a good mower for this sort of conversion. Imagine using a Harbor Freight Predator V-twin with the horizontal shaft hooked to this transmission...it might just be grounds for the creation of hot rod tractor #2. You need a lathe of some sort...even if it's home made...it would help you immensely. Instead of needing cutting-bits, use an angle grinder to grind your stuff into submission. Thanks for sharing Gary!

      @@LazloNQ I definitely have some ideas for it. No doubt, whatever this thing turns into, it will have a horizontal shaft engine of some kind powering it. I'm definitely lacking in the tool department. My ideas don't always match my skill or tool requirements. A lathe would be amazing.

    When it comes to twisted belt drives, the part of the belt getting pulled on by the power source and where the belt comes off the driven pulley need to be inline. The non-torque side of the pulley can be at quite an angle but you do have to use guards to keep the belt on. I'm surmising when your belt is under load, it's pulling on the driven pulley at a pretty hard angle. With the pulleys in their original position, that angle was probably closer to straight. It's a whacky world when you're dealing with twisted belts. If you were to stretch this mower like you did with the hotrod mower, the longer path of the belt would help the situation because you're not pulling so hard of an angle over a relatively short distance. The farther apart the driver and driven is, the larger the angle can be, but you try to avoid any angles at all between driver and driven on the torque side of the belt.

    • @DieselFuelNetwork
      @DieselFuelNetwork  Місяць тому +1

      @LazloNQ Yes, that's definitely the issue. At first, I figured it worked the other way, it should work the opposite way. But you're right. The original setup had almost no angle pulling from the crank to the trans pulley. It's now obviously pulling at a significant angle. I'm might do what I can to get it working, but ultimately, I'll probably be making some major changes with this machine.

  • @RollinMyOwn
    @RollinMyOwn Місяць тому +1

    It won't work unless you use pulleys to guide the belt and keep it tensioned.

    • @DieselFuelNetwork
      @DieselFuelNetwork  Місяць тому

    Why didn't you put a piece of flat metal behind the big pulley to give it more reinforcements plus it would be a flat area that you can put the pulley the tension pulley wherever you would need it such as a crossmember for reinforcing the frame behind the engine just saying
