Aerith's Theme was the second piece I played from Final Fantasy half a year ago, right after Tifa's Theme. I still remember how heartstricken I was when I first heard it. Simply undescribable. An unique piece.

With the remake of FF7 there has been so many "covers" and attempts to play this song.
This video is 13 years old and is still the best performance of this song in UA-cam.
Exactly. After listening to various performances on spotify, they all sound like dog shit compared to Arkton's performance. You can feel the raw emotion in his play.
I agree. The key is he doesn't over do it. He plays it soft and sweet and builds up the emotion at the end.
After I studied piano I've found that Arkton's fingering is not ordinary how pianist play these day. That's why the sound is beautiful.

He doesn't play it how you should according to Nobuo's composition which is why you may find it unique. I for one, do not like it.

+Jaykmeit Yes. The story was so good. There was nothing more innocent and sincere than Aeris in that world. She was the opposite of Sephiroth. Even Cloud, Barret, and Tifa had their issues but Aeris was just a perfect little sunbeam that gave you hope for the future and when she died it tore your high school heart out. No moment in any video game has ever been felt more.

This version of the song was played beautifully at my little brothers funeral after he took his own life. It was the most beautiful heart breaking thing. He loved the final fantasies. I miss him so much
my son also loved Final fantasy he played this song on piano over and over each night he died by suicide we played To Zanarkand at his funeral

My Aeris story:
Never leveled her.
Forces herself into my party at the Temple of the Ancients.
She kept dying at the dragon boss battle because she was underleveled.
Didn't care for her much but this made me hate her.
I laughed when she died and even made a save file just before she died
so I could watch it whenever I wanted.
Anyway, her theme is nice.
tl;dr - Hated Aeris and I laughed when she died.
+chunkymonkey as a healer I always had her in my party. So once I got over the initial upset I was so mad! I had spent hours leveling her up. Lol.

When Jenova appered she didn't stand a chance I took all the pain and rage out on her I didn't play safe like normal I just unleashed everything I had on her.

Who else's daughter is named Aeris, or Aerith after this game? Mine is😁. She is 12 now. Had that much impact. It's amazing what a great story, and even a better soundtrack will do. When I was about 16, I would skip school just to play this game and avenge Aeris death. Took me days, plus a few GameShark codes I used all my money on to kick Sephiroths ass, lol.

If you played the north american release in 1997, she was (and for most people still is) Aeris. There is no 'th' sound in Japanese, so her name ended in the character 'su' (earisu). 'Su' is used for words that end in 's' as well as for words with 'th', so both Aerith and Aeris is a correct translation of the Japanese characters. Obviously whoever translated the game back then was not provided the exact English spelling and most people would translate those characters as Aeris.
And if you're gonna correct someone, you might want to get it right yourself. *Aerith.

Wow, this is fantastic. It's always songs like this that make me want to learn to play the piano. Honestly it's one of the most beautiful instruments imo, if not THE most beautiful.
Those first few notes bring back the heart break instantly I can't listen to this without crying. Even with my memory problems I am sent back to the day when I was 15. I was sent home from school after being quite badly beaten up by my bullies. I played FF7 to take my mind off the insident and the pain. But little did I know what was going to happen at the city of the ancients. It hurt more than those cuts and bruises ever could.
I don't know if I can survive when the remake gets to that bit. Aerith looks so amazing now you can really see her wonderful personality shines through in her expressions. I don't know if I can watch the life fade away from those beautiful green eyes again.

Ha, cool. I bought a piano quite a few years ago, mainly to play this and Eternity from FFX-2. And now, all those years later... I still can't play them. But... I can play like the first couple of minutes of Eternity and the first minute of this, and honestly, even being able to do that makes me so, so happy.
If only I had the talent and dedication to become better.
Buffoon1980 well dude, hardwork beats talent.. that's what i believe.. keep training and i'm pretty sure you'll work it out.. if you think it's too hard to play both hands altogether.. you can start with your right then followed with your left, after you're good with each of your hands.. you can try combining them.. that's what i usually do 😊 good luck
Levina Caroline Thanks for the encouragement :) I'm still soldiering on with learning stuff, in fact I just went back to Aerith's Theme last week. It's so, so slow for me to learn even the most basic sequence of notes, it feels like such hard work. I'm not complaining, I'm just... very lazy and braindead :P Still, it's worth it, just to see even a tiny improvement.

Aerith's theme is the most beautiful piece of music ever created and that is not by taste or anything just listen to it and it cuts into the deepest of emotions especially if you have played the game to know the character, so sadly beautiful it's impossible.. I M P O I S S I B L E

No such thing as too old for video games as a general principle. You just lost interest in gaming over time it sounds like. It's natural though; it happens to a lot of people. But there's always still "old" gamers out there still kicking too. Different people are different (go figure, right?) Not everyone just stops gaming completely when they hit a certain age. I know people in their 60s still gaming. Stop gaming because you want to, not because you feel "too old" ;)

If you wanted to learn it, you could take 10 seconds and google the sheets. Or look one of the several Synthesia tutorials on UA-cam. Stop being lazy.

Alejandro Corpe The reason he probably can't "share" the sheets with us is because the sheets aren't free -- there would likely be a copyright issue. And what's you're advice here? You're telling him if he "found this treasure" he should share it with everyone, as if their hidden or something. The sheets are there, but you can't (legally) get them for free. Again, take 10 seconds and you can figure these things out instead of complaining about it.

Stumbled back upon this video now in 2022 after watching the FF7 25th anniversary stream. And I was instantly transported back to my youth. I remember first watching this video when I was in middle school and I fell in love with your arrangement and how you played it with so much emotion. I even saved the video to my old playlists so I could listen to it always. Unfortunately like many things my playlist got lost over time. But once I saw this again I recognized it immediately and it was almost like seeing an old friend again (nod to Aerith in remake) lol. Safe to say I resaved your video to my playlist again and I wil be sure not to lose it this time. Such a great performance thank you for the memory!
