SO. I decided to take Edgar Allen Poe's beautiful poem, 'Annabel Lee', and give it some music! (A 10-point lit project gone overboard, I must admit...) Vocals and violin were done by my sister (gils102), and I did the piano and guitar.
ALSO, below are the chords and lyrics, since someone asked. Want to make a cover? Please go right ahead! Just make sure to credit both me AND my sister (gils102) for our arrangement! (And, of course, don't forget dear Mr. Poe ^_^)

Enjoy!
And feel free to comment, compliment, and/or critique! :)
CHORDS:
[intro]
Bm F# B F#
It was (Bm) many and many a year ago, in a (F#) kingdom by the sea
That a (Bm) maiden there lived whom you may know by the (F#) name of Annabel Lee
And this (A) maiden she lived with no other thought
(G) than to love (F#) and be loved by me (Bm) (F#).
(Bm) I was a child and she was a child in this (F#) kingdom by the sea
But we (Bm) loved with a love that was more than love, (F#) I and my Annabel Lee
With a (A) love that the winged seraphs of heaven (G) coveted (F#) her and me (Bm)(F#).
And (Bm) this was the reason that, long ago, in this (F#) kingdom by the sea,
A (A) wind blew out of a cloud, chilling my (G) beautiful Annabel (F#) Lee
So (Bm) that her highborn kinsmen came and (F#) bore her away from me
To (A) shut her up in a sepulcher (G) in this kingdom (F#) by the sea (Bm)(F#).
The (Bm) angels, not half so happy in heaven, went (F#) envying her and me
Yes, and (Bm) that was the reason, as all men know in this (F#) kingdom by the sea,
That the (A) wind came out of a cloud by night,
(G) chilling and (F#) killing my Annabel (Bm) Lee (F#).
But our (Bm) love it was stronger by far than the love of (F#) those who were older than we
Of (G) many far wiser than (F#) we
And (Bm) neither the angels in heaven above, nor the (F#) demons down under the sea,
Can (A) ever dissever my soul from the soul of the (G) beautiful (F#) Annabel (Bm) Lee (F#).
[Octave Up]
For the (Bm) moon never beams without bringing me dreams of the (F#) beautiful Annabel Lee
And the (A) stars never rise but I feel the bright eyes of the (G) beautiful Annabel (F#) Lee
And so (Bm) all the night tide I lie down by the side of my (F#) darling - my darling - my life and my bride
In the (A) sepulcher there by the sea, in her (G) tomb by the (F#) sounding (Bm) sea (F#).
[Octave Down]
[Instrumental]
Bm F# A G F# (repeats until end)
I believe Edgar Allen Poe himself would be proud of such a beautiful adaptation in song of his beautiful Annabel Lee.
I always thought the setting of this poem would make an awesome dark fantasy/gothic fiction novel. Tragedy, hideous demons, demented kingdoms, dark oceans, as a writer I'm tempted to make a story like that lol.
Read Lady Midnight!!!
Jinat Rehana Nasrin I've read several books of hers before and I can't say I'm a fan :/
But perhaps I should give it another chance. I read the synopsis and it sounds really interesting!
Michael Sorbello: Horror Stories I just started writing my first opera based upon the poem.
Frankly and rice could capture this far better than any other writer, but since that would be too derivative and I'm sure the lady values her originality she probably won't.
Not blaming you at all hee hee lol both sisters have this on their channell. you both wrote it,..,
Ne gökteki melekler, ne denizdeki şeytan
Ruhumu ayıramaz Annabel'in ruhundan....
It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of Annabel Lee;
And this maiden she lived with no other thought
Than to love and be loved by me.
I was a child and she was a child,
In this kingdom by the sea,
But we loved with a love that was more than love-
I and my Annabel Lee-
With a love that the wingèd seraphs of Heaven
Coveted her and me.
And this was the reason that, long ago,
In this kingdom by the sea,
A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling
My beautiful Annabel Lee;
So that her highborn kinsmen came
And bore her away from me,
To shut her up in a sepulchre
In this kingdom by the sea.
The angels, not half so happy in Heaven,
Went envying her and me-
Yes!-that was the reason (as all men know,
In this kingdom by the sea)
That the wind came out of the cloud by night,
Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee.
But our love it was stronger by far than the love
Of those who were older than we-
Of many far wiser than we-
And neither the angels in Heaven above
Nor the demons down under the sea
Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
For the moon never beams, without bringing me dreams
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And the stars never rise, but I feel the bright eyes
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side
Of my darling-my darling-my life and my bride,
In her sepulchre there by the sea-
In her tomb by the sounding sea.
General shout out: thanks so much for all of the lovely comments!!! It really means A LOT to my sister and I, and we're glad that you have enjoyed our music so much. :)
+Monica Gil Perfection musical arrangement.
+Monica Gil Are you American or British ?
+Burak Olgun We're from the States
+Monica Gil i see but i think Britain English is more elevated and more classy. The British pronunciation is kinder than Us version. But in the end Poe is a American poet and he is ornament of the American literature. You should be proud of having him.
+Monica Gil whoever sings in the video she has a strong musical talent. she should utilize it well. For example finishing music department in a conservatoire.
Not just the best musical version, but one that gets everything right: beautifully sung and interpreted, period correct in the choice of instruments, and an obsessive melody and tempo that best fits the lyric. A memorable result and achievement. As suggested elsewhere, this is the version that would have greatly pleased it's author.
well said
very well said been listening for years completely perfect in every way and the reason annabel Lee is my permanent favorite poem
It was many and many a year ago
In a kingdom by the sea
That a maiden lived whom you may know
By the name of Annabel Lee
This maiden she lived with no other thought
Than to love and be loved by me
She was a child and I was a child
In this kingdom by the sea
But we loved with a love that was more than love
I and my Annabel Lee
With a love that the winged angels of Heaven
They coveted her and me
And the moon never beams, without bringing me dreams
And the sun never shines, but I see the bright eyes
I lie down by the side
The angels, not half so happy in Heaven
Went envying her and me
That was the reason, as all men know
In this kingdom by the sea
That the wind came out of the clouds that night
Killing my, my Annabel Lee
And the moon never beams, without bringing me dreams
And the sun never shines, but I see the bright eyes
I lie down by the side
But our love was stronger by far than the love
Of those who were older than we
Many far wiser than we
Neither the angels in Heaven above

Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee
And the moon never beams, without bringing me dreams
And the sun never shines, but I see the bright eyes
I lie down by the side
Ohhh ohh

this poem is amazing and the voice and piano only make it more amazing
wow I really found my comment on this vid 6 years later and I'm still coming back to listen to this song it just sends chills to my heart everytime I hear it
Years ago I was apart of a all men's choir in my Highschool and we sung this song it was heavenly great times...
Sometimes I wonder what happened to my old choir mates, something tells me they are off to a dark path I pray for them.
Thanks for releasing this track I needed it.❤
So beautiful and innocent.
Tears in my eyes.
This is the best attempt yet to set the poem to music
ANNABEL LEE Seneler, seneler evveldi; Bir deniz ülkesinde Yaşayan bir kız vardı,bileceksiniz İsmi Annabel Lee; Hiçbir şey düşünmezdi sevilmekten Sevmekden başka beni. O çocuk ben çocuk, memleketimiz O deniz ülkesiydi, Sevdalı değil karasevdalıydık Ben ve Annabel Lee; Göklerde uçan melekler bile Kıskanırdı bizi. Bir gün işte bu yüzden göze geldi, O deniz ülkesinde, Üşüdü rüzgarından bir bulutun Güzelim Annabel Lee; Götürdüler el üstünde Koyup gittiler beni, Mezarı ordadır şimdi, O deniz ülkesinde. Biz daha bahtiyardık meleklerden Onlar kıskandı bizi,_ Evet!_bu yüzden (şahidimdir herkes Ve o deniz ülkesi) Bir gece bulutun rüzgarından Üşüdü gitti Annabel Lee. Sevdadan yana ,kim olursa olsun, Yaşça başca ileri Geçemezlerdi bizi; Ne yedi kat gökdeki melekler, Ne deniz dibi cinleri, Hiçbiri ayıramaz beni senden Güzelim Annabel Lee. Ay gelip ışır hayalin eşirir Güzelim Annabel Lee; Bu yıldızlar gözlerin gibi parlar Güzelim Annabel Lee; Orda gecelerim, uzanır beklerim Sevgilim, sevgilim, hayatım,gelinim O azgın sahildeki, Yattığın yerde seni .
Edgar Allan POE
Wow. I am fascinated by language, and it's a real treat to see an alternative translation from perhaps Turkish? Hungarian ?( am I wrong)? It differs from the original but captures the story, the emotion, and the intensity of the original poem. Anyhow, great song, and now something interesting I wasn't expecting to see!
I love it! My life-long nickname is Annabelle, and I recently married a man named Lee. I'm not changing my name legally, but I am going by Annabelle Lee now socially, and for work.
This is... this is just absolutely beautiful. It holds the emotion and everything and it gave me chills! Thank you for producing such a piece! And of course, Mr. Poe created such a lovely poem! :)
Lady Midnight...
Julian... Emma...
i first heard the poem in language arts and now im reading it in Lady Midnight and its killing me....
Me too!
Angel Ge oh my gosh YES 💔
Finally! Someone I can relate to! I love Annabell Lee, so when I began reading Lady Midnight, I automatically noticed the ties. Not even going to lie, I screamed in excitement.
same
Angel Ge Its become my favorite poem because of them
I absolutely LOVE this arrangement of Annabel Lee!! I had to memorize this for a school project too and I was humming the words with a made-up tune in class one day when my teacher suddenly whipped out this video. I sang it for *days* on end, until my parents we're sick of it. Keep up the beautiful work, darlings!!!
Just throwing it out there, this is one of those songs that wonders in my brain every couple of years. Legitimately, every 3 years my brain is like "Hey, remember that song? Go listen to it for a week or so" hahaha. Thanks for this project.
you will be in heaven for this beatiful song
Çok güzel. Hayal edemeyeceğim, asla erişemeyeceğim mükemmellikte. Şu söz bana enerji veriyor: “AY GELİR IŞIR, HAYALİN ERİŞİR” teşekkürler Edgar Allen Poe 🌹
Etkisinden çıkmak fazla zor değil mi....❤ Harika.
You deserve an applause.
I would rather saystanding ovation.
🎉
Still haunted by this beautiful composure. Thanks a lot.
Honestly i can say that this one the best version i've ever heard of Annabel Lee poem as the song form.
You're voice is very beautiful. That's amazing, It almost brings tears to my eyes.
Truly an incredible rendition. I can't how many times I have read this poem or how many actors I have heard reading it, yet yours was among the most captivating. Bravissima
Wow! I remember that I discovered this beautiful song in 2013, when I discovered Poe's works. That video had something like 5,000 or 20,000 views and now, almost 10 years later, it has 408,000! It's a good feeling of nostalgia. Congratulations to the sisters.
This deserves standing applause from the whole world.
8 years later and I remember the tune and words- I used this to help me memorize the poem for extra credit in middle school
I can't even express the feelings that stings my soul while I listen to your creation.
i'll never get enough of this incredible singing
I have no words for this. Only “wow”
We are doing this in class and everyone kept saying "It sounds like a song!". I thought I would search up to see if anyone had done it to music, and this is exactly what I imagined it would sound like!
I've listened to this enchanting song nearly 20 times today. I am completely entranced by the ethereal melodies and angelic singing. Thank you ladies for creating such a timeless piece of music. I must find a way to save this lyrical poetry to listen to it for years to come. I can envision myself at nearly 80 years old in my rocking chair still entranced by this perfect song. Cheers!
This is always in my top 2 or 3 favourite poems of all time. And this is a lovely treatment of it.
i do believe edgar allen poe himself would be so proud of such a beautiful and lovely adaptation in song of beautiful annabel lee.
I still listen to this till now
This is perfection I know you made Edgar Allen Poe proud!!!!!!!🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
I listen to this song every other day while I write. Thank you from San Diego.

Kristine Kerns Awww, thanks so much ^_^
I love this!! I’ve listened to it many times & I still find it so beautifully sung & the music is excellent. This is also one of my favorite poems.
The best musical interpretation of the poem ever!
Annabel Lee is my favorite Edgar Allan Poe poem and you two performed it beautifully. Thank you for sharing.
Ein wundervolles Arrangement an klingender, feingliedriger Stimme, Klavier und Geige.💕
I learned the poem some years ago, as I was 23 years old. It's weird: I had nearly the same melody and preposition in my mind as you and never thought somebody could 'melt' it in a song. Thanks. Really.
This incredible ladies! I have often wished people would put music to my favorite writings... Dreams do come true sometimes it seems. ♡ Outstanding!
This version is my all time favorite of all the song versions of the poem, Annabel Lee! Keep up the great work!
Love your voice!
Beautiful poem... love it!!!!
pangaepepe Mimiemel Actually, the singer is my sister, UA-cam user gils102! If you liked her voice you should totally check out her channel. ^_^ Glad you liked our rendition of the poem!

Beautiful!!! Thank you for this musical take on one of Poe's most moving poems! And thanks for the instrumental version, too!!! Subscribed! :)

It's 2021 and I'm still waiting for it to be uploaded on Spotify

GOTH PRIDE 🖤Thank u for makeing this edgar must never be forgotten
Hearing the song I felt just the way I did when I first read the poem. Congratulations.
BEAUTIFUUUUUL! This poem is one of my favorite poems of all time
You're both very talented.
I could never express my admiration for your work. Not only is your/ your sister's voice softly sweepig me off my feet, placing me on the whitest of all clouds, but it furthermore manages to grasp the meaning of one of my favourite poems in a way I could have never imagined. As soon as I have finished studying my pupil will hear this and they will once more understand that poetry is beautiful, filled with emotions and not 'boring'.
This is the most amazing musical version of a poem I have ever had the pleasure of listening to.
You are amazing!
What a beautiful sightseeing followed by a very nice music to go to sleep.
all i can say is wow. i just read the poem and it captivated my attention. however, this voice and the instruments are magnificent. they add an immense amount of beauty to the poem.
Beautiful, Edgar Allan Poe would be so touched by your arrangements and voice.
Aw, thank you so much! ^_^ It means a lot to the both of us.
this is unexpectedly brilliant,terrific!
wow we learned this in our class for our english lesson and couldnt help but admire the great work.
how beautiful voice this is... with these one of Poe's poems. perfect combination.
This is such a beautiful way to hear one of my favorite poems. It's helped me a lot in ways I couldn't properly explain. Thank you for making this, you're both very skilled musicians.
Oh, this gave me chills! Wonderful work!!
This is an amazing masterpiece, I dare to say. The voice and the instruments are extremely coherent with the environment this amazing dark romanticism stated by Poe, is proposing in this marvelous poem. I Thank you for sharing such an amazing piece of art. Hope so continue listening from you and your sister. Keep doing such great things on youtube!
I'm so impressed by you singing this poem. Thank you it helps in my teaching.

Good lord, this is breath-takingly beautiful. I can't believe this has so few views or favourites! Amazing job on the music, the vocals, the arrangement--wow. Kudos to you and your sister!
This is truly beautiful! Thank you so much
Beautiful period. You and ur sister r wonderful
Incredible
im fascinated from her voice. . By it's literary value it is a classic. I know about Poe's life . I've watched The Raven. It was about Poe's life. I advise everyone to watch that movie.. As i say , The poem is so beautiful but her voice and the musical version of Annabel Lee makes the poem greater.
i found this like 30 years ago and forgot about it and it just popped up again
Oh my...
This was absolutely lovely.
This is one of my favourite poems. You guys did an excellent job on this.
I really, really loved this.
I will spread this as much as I can because this is absolutely wonderful.
Thank you very much for this.
What a beautiful song to accompany that love poem. Excellent
This is wonderfully melancholic and sweet, thank you.
im not one to really comment on anything but i love Edgar Allan Poe and this is my favorite poem and i have to admit you two have by far the best musical version of Annabel Lee that i can find
This is wonderful. I love this poem and this musical version is simply beautiful. Thank you for making this.
This is just absolutely beautiful, and totally captures the tone and mood of the poem! I was so glad to find it as I'm teaching my students about tone and mood with this poem. THANK YOU!!
This is fantastic! It captures the feel and meaning of the poem perfectly. As someone with a bachelor's in English Lit, I was so disappointed in Stevie Nicks's version. It's done as a straight love song. This version restored my hope. It's got the balance of creepy and longing with just a touch of love song.
This is so incredibly beautiful. There was another cover, a rock one, that nobody seemed to like in my class. This one is much more preferred for such a sad and emotion-evoking poem!
