I love the whole public land thing. There are so many vids that are private land managed hunts or even game ranch hunts out their. Then the hunters in the vids explain how you could get these type of bucks if you buy certain products. Which is fine but that's not realistic for many hunters. Location, location, location, you guys show that you don't need a bunch of private property to get nice bucks. It just takes a little extra effort. Thanks for sharing.
Hard work always pays off.. nothing wrong with large private managed land, but your not hunting the same animal.. its like crows in town vs country crows.. one is much smarter than the other for many reasons kinda like deer.. lol
Do does and bucks usually walk with the wind in their face when they are walking to their beds? If so, then what's the best strategy to setup for a morning hunt?
bucks tend to J hook when coming back into bedding. Morning hunts are about having a good entry route not to spook anything on your way in. Prefer windy morning too. so many times mornings are dead calm and if you make one mistake hunting close to a bedding area like a metal ting you might as well pack up and leave. GL hunting.
probably only during the rut or late october.. Always hang and hunt.. its illegal to leave stands out here in WI.. normally hunt a spot once and I'm on to the next one..
When did you film this? I was surprised to see the bucks still holding their antlers. In North Idaho I was scouting first or second week in January and the white tails were dropping antlers already. When you are winter scouting and finding deer, do you expect them to be in the same area during season or do they tend to migrate a bit?
2/2/17.. Not always a lot of time the deer are relating to food sources like standing corn or beans.. this spot i would expect them to hold year round..
possible late may, early june before it gets to warm and the foliage isn't so thick.. probably put a 32GB sd card in and external battery pack.. otherwise mid august I would set up and yes 2 or 3 cameras.. The info from your trail camera isn't normally applicable to the year you hunt it, unless you can check them weekly which i don't do unless its the rut.. The info I get is used for the following year.. Are there big bucks in the area? good deer numbers? any other hunters? daytime movement..
I wish I could find quality public land but 99.8 percent of land in my area is private and most of the public is highly accessible and pressured and there's a bunch of pheasant shooters that get drunk and shoot into trees and bushes or any sign of movement. it's insane the amount of beer cans and bottles and shells and other miscellaneous litter I find while hunting.
I'm having really bad luck with my deer call that sounds nothing like a deer, can you recommend a good call? what is the best call to use in the late season, snort wheeze?
No call at all is probably best.. Public land is so heavily hunted and most hunters are so desperate for the next new thing to kill a big buck that most of that crap send them the other way.. stick to hunting between bedding and food sources but set up close to bedding
Public Land Hunters I use corn ad bait but I had a thought one time that deer on pressured public might be scared away by bait because they associate it with humans, I'd that true or am I over thinking this
most places its illegal to bait.. We never use bait.. only time I would consider using bait would maybe be late season.. a mature buck isn't going to come into bait during shooting hours most likely
Great video.

You need to get back there in a few weeks to shed hunt.
Thats what I'm thinking by the end of february for sure and prep a few trees..

How man stands do you suppose you could fit in that area?
we hang and hunt, so as many as you want.. most spots are one And done... other spots possibly an early hunt once and then again for the rut..
Public Land Hunters ya that's what I thought

just have to be willing to drive a few hours if thats what it takes to find good public.. most of the time its closer that you think..
