  • With oil embargos and prices shooting up, something the British public needed was a small, economical box that could get them to work and back without needing to take out a mortgage to fill up the tank. The Mini came along in the late fifties as the perfect solution- but how has the miniscule design remained so iconic over 60 years later?

Car Retrospective is the series where we look at cars of all shapes and sizes, of all backgrounds and nationalities- if it has at least three wheels and has an engine of some sort, it may appear. We uncover the true histories of some of our much- loved cars, such as the Bugatti Veyron to the Audi Quattro, and from the Lamborghini Countach to the Ford Crown Vic. It's all here!

Do you think the classic Mini should've continued in production into the modern day? Or was the new Mini a necessary change?

The actual final Mini was blue. For _whatever_ reason, they felt red was a more fitting colour. A red chassis was held back so it could be 'the final Mini'.
The first diesel MINI came out in 2003, it featured a 1.4 Toyota engine, borrowed from the Yaris, it made a fiesty 75hp

It also won the Bathurst 500 (Known as the 1000 today) in 1966 with a Top 9 finish

Why not? It slow, unreliable, handles like a tank despite it's size, the new ones aren't even that small anymore, not to mention it looks stupid as hell.
Most of all I hate how overrated it is. Whoever made this thing the car of the century over the Citroen DS23 should've been made clown of the century.

@@No-vq1iv I think the Mini deserved it, but the original DS23 was better (the one with the smooth rear)

@@No-vq1iv Have you even driven an original mini?
Clearly not from your ludicrous comment.
Handles like a go cart, the 1275cc engine is good for 115 mph in a car that weighs 700/800kg!
