I’m going to do 1500 miles on mine. Your probably right 2000 would be enough, I use maxima synthetic oils. I ride similarly like you in the PNW roads and logging roads some trails. If you were riding in sand or hard trails where your really abusing clutch , I personally may want to change it every 1000 miles. Just my 2cents. Ride on sir ,I enjoy your content
I have over 10,xxx miles on mine now with oil ch ages every 1200- 1500 miles so far without any issues. Bike is rode hard every ride and has spent majority of its life in supermoto trim. Aim ecu and full graves exhaust from around 2500 miles / race map only again no issues. It’s a Honda and honestly find it to be a new age Drz. They are way under valued imo…ride & enjoy it! Don’t believe all the hate videos
Nice video! I change my oil around 14-1600 miles on my 450L. and my TacoMoto plug seldom has anything on it. I do change air filters like a fiend to make sure nothing gets through! No biggie, they're cheap.
Full synthetic oil does not gum up like conventional overtime. Probably could go very long time without oil change but Honda just figures if they over recommend that when the majority fall short they'll still be all right. Honestly I love my bike so much I'll do oil change every 500 miles cause only takes 15min and cost $10
It is not the oil change interval that are the main issue, it is the valve check interval. At least for me . . .Most people can do an oil change, but valve checks become more technical and not something I want to do that often.
Love your vids mate! Just bought an RL for my son and stuck a 20L nomad tank on it - planning some longer trips. Great to see you extending the oil change interval. We’ll be doing the same. Hey, did you already preheat the motor before the change? Best way to get as much gunk out as possible. 👊
Pull the paper out of your old oil filter and have a look what it's caught. If you love your bike and want it to last don't let that old debris filled oil pump around your engine for 2000 miles. Will be interesting to see how long feature bikes crank bearing lasts?
How many classes in lubricantion have you had? How many college semesters of college Organic Chemistry? What are the properties critical in oil interval measurements? What you do/did doesn’t mean squat. Dye, which makes it red, doesn’t mean anything.
If you’re familiar with oil changes you’ll know that oil turns black long before the oil breaks down. However, I could post a link to oil analysis that prove my point, but I’m sure there are people who wouldn’t believe it either.
Send it for oil analysis for confirmation...Maxima and Redline is good stuff too...and from a trusted source. 15w50 has no viscoindex improver and will hold up longer than 10w50
How long do you go between oil changes on your Honda 450 RL?

How does a magnetic oil filter catch particles from a primarily aluminum engine??‽??
Great video, I use the same oil!!
I go 2k between changes on my 500 with no issues. ✌️
Rad! That’s good feedback
I'd suggest that maybe, just maybe, your eyes seeing red aren't equal to the results of an oil analysis
Maybe, just maybe, it’s an indication that it’s not broken down completely yet.
Hey man, big fan. Could you make a video on what you do for overall maintenance intervals in general outside of oil changes?
Yes!

Yes I change my air filter a lot more too.

Cool vid man. It will be interesting to keep up with this over the long term. I will be going about it similar with my 24' 500 EXC-F.
Tacomoto has oil analysis with 40 and 60 hours between oil changes and the oil was still good.

NO one has ever had a change at 1800 miles.
Johnny Campbell and others have done 200 hours on these with no valve checks.
I wouldn’t worry about valve checks on the Honda for a while.

Thanks mate! Rad bike, congrats!
Yes, but not for long.

Thanks for the video.
go 20w50 7100 next time, its a better oil. or better yet switch to castrol power 1 20w50. That metal on the drain plug though..... thats kinda scarry
I was watching my friend eating a $25 hamburger while he cautioned me about a quart of oil and a filter every 600 miles…
How many miles are on your bike
5000
I change mine every 17k miles and do a goat on every 3rd Thursday, i also got a masters in oil schematics and baiting......
