I would love to see the 140 minute version of Flashdance! I.LOVE.THIS.MOVIE. I love when Alex goes to get Jeanie at Zanzibar it is such a sweet scene when they walk off in the rain.

You are SO right in the observation that the supporting character's stories actually solidifying the film! The film was a story about the entire 80's generation and it's kick-off! I also appreciated the underlying message of the retired dancer! Not just the old cliché 'you won't fail if you don't give up!' & more of a 'we all ultimately give up... the question is how much success do you want to enjoy before you do???'!

I love this review so much! It makes me want to watch the movie again, But even more than that I can feel the warmth and get humour of the reviewer shining through the whole time. It was like being in the same room and hearing you talking about your favourite movie.

God this movie was so big. And big soundtrack. There was this a Footloose. We saw it a couple if times which is weird because we were guys and were more into the action films and the teen sex comedies. But then she took her bra off without taking her shirt off and we were hooked. (hey, what do want? We were teenage boys). And the whole controversy when it came out that she had a body double for the dancing scenes. I never got what the big deal was about that. Actors have doubles all the time and it was still good. Haven't watched it in ages so I'll have to revisit it.

Yes, I was entranced by the bra scene too. It was just a good combination of everything. I hope you have fun enjoying it on the re-visit. :)

It is a good movie not one of my favorites but enjoy the 80s vibe and it does have good music and good dance scenes. It's definitely a feel good movie and not give up on dreams and follow your passion.

Hey RNG, it's July 2021 and it's been four weeks since I last got to see a new one of these so I'm skulking around the backfiles yet again. I always thought that this was okay but it was a really big deal to my younger sister. I think at the time she appreciated female artists of great physicality and admired Madonna at least as much for her athleticism as for her music. As a lifelong Pittsburgher I feel sort of obliged to like this if only for the local flavor. I appreciated one quick moment when Alex is dancing opposite a traffic cop -- that was a real cop, Vic Cianca, and something of a minor celebrity because he really would sort of dance around a lot while conducting traffic. Pete, the guy who memorizes Alex's Social Security number, is no less than Don Brockett, who appears briefly in The Silence of the Lambs as a caged murderer grinning at Jodie Foster and greeting her as she makes her way towards Hannibal Lecter. Brockett is perhaps most famous as Chef Brockett in the old Mister Rogers shows. I happen to appreciate another Michael Nouri movie, a sci-fi buddy cop thriller called The Hidden, which pairs Nouri up with no less than Kyle MacLachlan, hero of David Lynch's Dune. I feel badly for Lilia Skala, she seems to be there to smile and give a hug and then die. One thing I did appreciate about the finale was how you could see Alex incorporating what the movie has been showing us into her dance. She messes up, like her friend did at the ice rink, but gets right back up and shows off all kinds of dancing, including some of the breakdancing we saw earlier. I worry, though, about her staying a ballerina -- sure, it looks beautiful, but it's rigorous and exhausting and she seems to me to be too much of a free spirit to settle down to it. Perhaps in Flashdance 2 she could go into aerobics videos like Jane Fonda did? All right, RNG, thanks again, still hoping to see you again, and Excelsior.

Great insights on Flashdance! You nailed so many awesome points. A new video from me is coming soon on the 22nd of July. Also, The Hidden is one of my favorite movies. You must be psychic because it's about 4 or 5 reviews away.😊

I would have expected at least .01% of what the movie made. Not surprised.

why do a review with spoilers? aren't reviews mainly for people considering watching the movie?

Good question! Some people want to know what other people think of a movie they've seen to compare thoughts.😊

@@RetroNerdGirl you can save the spoilers for the very end & give a “spoiler alert” even though I know you’re trying to go in chronological order. Just an idea.
