people commenting on how bad this video is..: this video was ahead of its time, and still must be to some degree if people aren't seeing how amazing this video truly is... the sequencing and patterns of the clips that are being datamoshed are brilliant and very intricate. the corruptions could look a lot messier, but it's well planned. one of my favorite videos.
But the style is dumb regardless how hard they tried on it,....
@@thecircle8568 You're wrong and @rvufo is correct. the end.
@@thecircle8568 I was transfixed the entire video. Your eyes are broken.
Chairlift & this video was magical. So happy to witness them in their prime. Sadly her new solo stuff is meh...
datamoshing is hard to achieve let alone a full length 3 min video
Finding out that Kanye got super mad because he was in a Datamoshing tech race and these guys released their video first is super funny
This music video is the peak of what it means to be an indie artist. The song is ingenious and not like anything else out there, and the video is also very well produced, mixing really beautiful sceneries, accentuating Caroline's beauty, at the same time containing dark undertones
based
The Of Montreal album False Priest is in the same rough ballpark as this song. But yeah this still has its own flavor
Im scrolling through Chairlift's discography after finding out Caroline's been in the industry for a while. I recognize a lot more songs than I anticipated. Wild.
Chairlift is better than her solo stuff IMO but they never got the break they deserved, so they broke up. Door is really fire though.
@@Y0utubeIsFuckingHomo 💯.. I dig the solo stuff, but Chairlift was better. But hey, I was a young thing listening to Chairlift, and they were brilliant and timely, and what Caroline is doing now is as well, and I get that people are going to have a bias largely geared towards what they experience in their youth. For me, this song is the pinnacle, and this video is an absolutely masterpiece, but then this song and video were part of many intimate and beautiful experiences I had as an early/mid 20 something.
I can get people not appreciating it as much as I do, but what I can’t abide is people saying the video is bad… Kids need to eat more psychedelics, and less benzos, or whatever misleading them to thinking this is bad. Put a tab under your tongue and watch it again, there’s no way they’re going to still think it’s bad art…
this is the most ingenious and artistic editing i've ever seen....it must've taken ages!
No lol, ever heard of datamoshing?
@@dirtbaker lmao 9 year old comment but yeah data moshing
@@dirtbaker so how old were you in 2009? just wondering
@@superhetoric my parents are getting a divorce
@@dirtbaker Please tell us, how old where you in 2009?
I can't even imagine how this would look being played by VLC.
+destructokid1337 VLC actually fixes it by double negative
This video is a masterclass in DataMoshing. Brilliant. Love the song too.
"pencil" "stencil" "utensil" GENIUS lol
The single "Evident Utensil" was nominated for an award in the "Breakthrough Video" category at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.
Everything makes sense now.
I watched this for the first time on acid, it was crazy. Now I am watching it in a normal state, and guess what, its still fucking crazy. This is an excellently made music video, fucking go chairlift
I was thinking that omg it had to be fabulous on acid. Just wonderful.🌞
I’m returning to this for the first time in a while, and I am happy to see my friends and I were not at all alone in tripping with this video back in the day. I was 22 when this came out, we probably first watched it when there was barely 1000 views on it, and it became one of the videos I would show people for years if I tripped with them.. 13 years later, it’s still incredible, and this song is just as infectious as ever!
I'm glad I discovered caroline and then ramona Lisa and now discovering chairlift I'm in love with Ms. Polachek's work! this video is definitely ahead of its time
Just came here after listening to your whole discography and, I must say, I miss you guys
I have been tripping to this video, and sharing it with my friends for over 3 years now. it just never gets old. always an lsd staple, but it's just as great sober.
Hi, hey, how are you, from the future. Also, damn, you were cute. 🤘✌️♾️
This is....amazing wtf my eyes weren't expecting that
One of my favorite Chairlift songs. Great stuff!
What an absolutely excellent song...This is the first time I have ever heard of this group; but, My attention is captured..
DATAMOSHING. I LOVE IT
so many emotions to this song, video suits perfectly !!!
Gotta love those oohs!
What's cool about this video for me (as someone who's been into music videos for many years) is that if I'd been watching it on TV -- like most of my experiences with music videos had been until about the mid-2000s -- it wouldn't have had the same effect.
The visuals took on meaning for me because I was watching the video on UA-cam and have had my fair share of buffering and streaming issues over the years. Like, I knew they were intentional, but I was always asking in the back of my mind, "what if it's a glitch?" I don't know for sure that that's what the directors were going for, but if it was, then that was pretty forward-thinking of them! Basically the internet version of burnt and corrupted film effects lol
I’d say all the above, but also the trailing, bleeding, colorful kind of effects your vision is subjected to when you’re tripping. I always felt like it was simultaneously referencing psychedelics and those kinds of glitching digital effects, but the exact artistic intentions I’m not sure.
@@nikolademitri731 "the exact artistic intentions I’m not sure" - probably: "...it looks cool".
I don't think that many artists are sitting there thinking of some sort of deep symbolic meaning every time they're doing any particular thing. Sometimes it's just about the aesthetics, and that's fine and good.
i can't explain bc i'm happydrunk on a friday, but this band has been a light and a bouy in my life. God Bless This Band
so catchy! can't stop clicking the replay button!
This has to be one of the best video clips of all time. Or you wouldn't be commenting on it.
Love your creativity in this video
I always keep coming back to this song.. Something special about it.
Never thought i would see live Caroline Polachek i remember listening to this years ago i may say maybe 8 years or more. Brought me so much joy, like a dream come true. It wasn't chairlift but sure incredible, I love Caroline bc she is so talented and creative and she was huge parte of this group as the others
I could never get enough of this song...It's the best!!
Cool song, trippy video, dig it! Good stuff.
Pauses video for 5 seconds. "Oh that fixed it! It looks clear now." lol
Love this song / video!
Still one of my favourite videos. I love how the changes in scene don't match the music, and they appear in places you least expect. It gives me this funny feeling, like pushing on putty with my fingers but with my brain. Anyone reminded of those 3d magic eye books?
I had one of those books as a kid! Thanks! Now I found it
2021? I'm still listening to this song
LOVE IT
Lovely.
just discovered them, very creative both musically and lyrically. a nice suprise.
She is so pretty and talented.
Amazing song, amazing duo.
Masterpiece video.
There's no actual animations or video trickery in this music video. UA-cam's player just really sucks now.
Datamoshing :)
world needs another idiot if you ask me
+Dmitri K Oh hey, there you are! We were looking for you.
@@spookmeister4528 r/itswooooshwith4os/
i didn't even know there was a third member in the group
He left the band soon after the first album.
the greatest music video i have seen in a long time, BRAVO!! who made the video?
Great music!
i love this
Is this what an LSD trip is supposed to be like?
That's datamoshing. LOOK IT UP.
Read my question again.
nah, not really.
sort of... but less blurry you know more focused images. I guess it depends on the dose too . I had friends who just saw"cool" distortions so I guess it depends on the person ME and another friend who've been studying the mind and the occult we actually saw out of this world shit and perceptions I can't explain LIKE telepathy.. I use to draw on a sketch pad app on my phone which has a option to draw symmetrical things so I discovered slot of patterns on acid. some of the ancient figures like every angle of the 5'6'8'10'12 pointed STARS. the meaning of the 12 on the clock and how it relates to. "time" And the location of Saturn and how Rolex uses those sacred patterns to create their watches. if you go on Rolex.com you're gonna see all their stuff is based on metrology numerology. the 12 on the clock wasn't a 12 before it was something different which the Romans used which is why watches have the old version. sounds crazy? yup not everyone's cup of tea lol but oh well psychedelics are. "fun" to some and a teacher to the rest of us. like tupac said once you can see the rules of the game it becomes a game you can play and only then will you make it .
X6X
More like a VLC trip, amirite?
This is great!
This is a great video. I first saw that effect ('datamoshing'?) in a music video by the Presets (Down Down Down) but man it is a so trippy and well done with the timing of the song.
GREAT SONG! I love Chairlift! Amazing video!
-Eric Chicago
How have we never found you guys before. Fantistique! X
This was best video of 09 for me. Love this stupid little video.
i love this song.
Love it
Gave me a bad trip with out shrooms :)

the best datamoshing video I've ever seen
Amo este video : )
I love this video.
jeez this effect is so in right now haha..this is way ahead of its time damn
I missed you guys! 😭
It will be a long time before anyone comes up with a music video THIS trippy.
so beautiful.....
Best video of 2009. Period. If you understand that time and the dramatic change we saw between 2007-09 with the end of the 2000s 70s revival (which led on from the 90s 60s revival) and the beginning of the 2010s 80s dreampop revival. This video was about 4 years ahead of its time but is still sooo 2009
Legendary classic
I think it looks cool and leaves something to the imagination.
Wow. Datamoshing is so insane. So trippy I get so lost in the viduals
This video is amazing.
I had forgotten about this song. Memories
Ok so I watched the video, loved it, and then I realized I wasn't in the highest quality...so I watched it again, because well.. if you're gonna see something this epic you must go all the way :)
probably the coolest music video ever made.
Love the water stuff. And those tights. Just yes. XD
A mad GENIUS!
Her singing makes me happy. :]
Damn, I didn't know Caroline was datamoshing in her videos way back in 2009. Very apt.
this video is a trip
OMG I WAS LOOKING OUT FOR THIS VIDEO EVER SINCE I FIRST SAW IT IN 2009
FAVORITE VIDEO EVER MADE
siempre bárbara. amo
This video is SICK !!
Pretty rad.
This vid is awesome. This is the best music in this genre since Air's "Moon Safari".
this song is tweepilling me
wow amaizing video!
THIS SHOULD HAVE 1 MILLION VIEWS
Genius!!
this vid is so cool.
that video was fucking awesome. they got to the essence of what it is to have a good therapeutic trip. -entensity
The only way I can think of to do this effect would be to output a sequence from FCP7 without rendering and applying a bunch of effects to each track and just stack the videos one on top of the other. I am really impressed that someone finally did something creative with this glitch in digital editing software (even if this was done purposefully in an actual graphics program like after effects or something)
It's also used in the the music clip for The Murlocs song Compensation. That one looks a bit better and is a bit trippier too.
Can this be done in premiere?
i heard something about "keyframes" something something MAGIC, hope that helped
Wish you guys were still making music :o)
wish granted
Ava Lightbody And wish finally denied.
4/20 is the day to watch this
For all people doubting quality of this video - so you know and don't sound dumb, these are not compression artifacts - it's the style of the video. It'll look the same everywhere.
I know you're joking.
But for all who actually believes this guy, the video was datamoshed. And it was on purpose.
kiki3510 whatever it is called, point is - this is intentional and will look the same everywhere.
My computer when I open too many tabs on Google
oh my god that was awesome
finally found this after looking for a year !!!!!
Chairlift is my new addiction!
This song deserves more then 340,651 views!
Trippin
Caroline will never be able to surpass this, and that's okay because it's perfection.
Dope video
1:43 - best part of the video. Kudos to the datamosher!
Este video lo conocí de chico cuando lo pasaban en Cartoon Network y jamas pensé que la encontraría... hasta que hace dos años conocí a Caroline
BEAUTIFUL DATA MOSHING IS BEAUTIFUL
