In high school I met this amazing teacher with locs. One day he cut them off and when asked why he said he wanted to be a principle. After being rejected numerous times, he was hired within a week after the cut. Hair discrimination is real.
That's horrible!!!! But not unexpected.... The current head girl( who everyone looks up to, especially me for rocking her natural hair) at my school is mixed but has very thick natural hair and to make matters "worse" wears it in a colored mohawk. When running for head girl one of the teachers basically told her that she didnt have the hair for that position........ WHY!!!!!!! Its the whitest private high school in my country and her teacher literally told her hair didnt represent the school....ok...i mean...ok cool
Whether you agree or disagree around the controversy surrounding Marc Jacobs, you have to admit that what Jackie did is impressionable. She spoke out for what she believes in, voiced her opinion from the perspective of a WOC even after considering the risks or consequences that may fall on her by the Brand, how many other big youtubers have you seen do that? It's such a nice breath of fresh air, I'm so glad I subscribed to a respectable woman that has a backbone, there are so many fake youtubers here that constantly suck up to brands (i.e. Jeffree Star) and never speak out for something that they may have done wrong just because they still want to receive free products and to stay in their goodwill, I applaud you Jackie.
Oh and also to all the (NON-POC) people saying it's "just hair", well guess what? Not every cultures perception of hair is the same, hair could be of little to no importance to you, but to (in this instance) POC it holds so much meaning and tradition.
Zendaya was literally attacked on social media for wearing hairstyles, from her culture, which were praised when white people wore them at this runway show
when Marc said that nobody criticizes black girls for straightening their hair, i had to pause the video to write this. Many black girls straighten their hair because they are shamed for wearing *the black hair styles that are being appropriated on white people*. It's appropriation because white people are "trendy" for wearing them but black girls are sometimes literally forced to straighten their hair because they look "ghetto" or "dirty" when they wear the same styles.
I love that you're more than just makeup. You're an intelligent woman who's not afraid to use her platform to speak of injustices of all kinds. 👏🏿👏🏿. Btw..... What is that lipstick you're wearing?! 😍
Everything a woman of color brings whether it being full lips, hips and natural kinky, coily hair always has a "wanted" sign on them by other races . It's all good and all 'new' as long as it's not on us . Cornrows=boxer braids Serena Williams=Kim Kardashian melanin =tanning Everything that comes natural to us is ugly when it's on us but beautiful when it's not on us .
in my opinion PoC are beautiful and I'm upset that even in 2016 your natural looks are shamed... and the praised when white people change themselves to get these features
I don't understand people who say they don't see color. Seeing color is part of celebrating our diversity. Marc Jacob's response just sounded all types of wrong.
Marc Jacobs' response in a nutshell: "I am more aware of what should and should not offend people than the people that I am offending. I'm actually more evolved on the subject of race than anyone else. So fuck you, I'm not wrong, you're just crazy."
Thank you for speaking out! Native Americans fight this same fight too and get the same kind of push back from Caucasians. I am white and Native American and have spoken up about Cultural Appropriations and gotten slammed for it. All I can say is, it's like talking to a brick wall. I love seeing black women with natural hair! But, I love seeing a woman with a strong sense self most of all and girl, you got that!! I love your message, you spoke it beautifully!
I wore my hair in an afro the day before a board meeting, and the day of the board meeting I was uninvited to that meeting where I had to give a presentation. For a few months I wore my hair in an afro and weaves; my hairstyle determined if I was invited to these board meeting or not. Before wearing my hair in an afro, I attended every board meeting the company had. Hair discrimination is real, and hard to prove
Yes Angela, I am there with you. It is absolutely horrible. So forget the knowledge and brilliance that inside your head...we're more concerned with what's on your head, meaning your natural hair - the way it was literally created. The Nerve!
It sounds like he basically went "I was inspired by this culture and I think it's beautiful... but I don't want to use any of the people from that culture... because... no..."
Also the whole "I don't see color" thing is total crap. People who say things like that are actually more likely to do racist things because they don't think things through enough to be culturally sensitive. By saying "i don't see color" you are essentially saying "I see everyone as white".
+KiKianaKi have to slightly disagree with the last bit.. up until a few years ago I was in the no colour camp just because I thought everyone was equal in my eyes.. I've since learned a lot (still am mind you) and evolved on the subject. there's a lot of colours and cultures, I love it when I walk around and see 200+ nationalities in my small city. too bad not everyone agrees
Sammi Jane Davis thanks hun....we as poc appreciate it...and wish there were more people in the work force and around the world...because we as black women get it all the time...
Adrienne Kromah I'm not black but I have extremely curly 4c hair even I get shit by people getting told to straighten it because it looks too wild/messy
Shelsea Cuevas You're probably mis-typing your hair. Sorry not sorry, only black people have 4c.(It's literally an evolutionary trait don't get butthurt)
I wasn't here for it. His response was also dismissive and rude to black women. Some black women had to straighten our hair to conform to feel beautiful starting from way back then. Just like you said, we can't wear our hair natural, locs, braids because we are judged. But we are seeing currently that if a white girl wears (example Kim Kardashian) "black styles" it's a trend or its cool. I'm honestly done.
I see where you're coming from I really do but this happens to everyone. Beyonce shaking her ass to one of the most revered and culturally defining pieces of music from the middle east and Egypt or Adele wearing a Siwa inspired dressed to one of her concerts without ever giving credit to the cultures they 'borrowed' those things from or even acknowledging their cultural significance. Yet u almost never get the same backlash/anger or even hears about those incidences as much as you do with similar African American issues, even though I think we can both agree that most minorities are forced to assimilate in white societies. Now I'm not saying that black people don't have a right to be angry/offended because I personally think they do I'm just pointing out that sometimes things get blown out of proportion. :)
+Ingie F so because Beyoncé, one person, does something, we don't have the right to complain when there is mainstream racism and cultural appropriation done to us..... I don't even like Beyoncé.
I think the outcry is consistently appropriate because these well known, respected white people constantly do this. There's appropriation of POC's by other POC's that isn't called out as much as they need to be, but it doesn't mean you have to silence one group in order for another to be heard. Black people being upset over something offensive can be an example for other cultures to say, "This offends me as well". Just because one culture is quiet, doesn't mean we all need to accept any of it.
okay I don't really see how liking Beyonce has to do with this (I don't like her either so I'm on your side sister :D) I clearly said people have a right to be angry but anyways to carry one with your train of thought, Mark Jacobs is also one person so by that logic it's not that big of a deal either. But that's not the point is it, people are upset because Marc Jacobs is someone who influences mainstream culture so to speak (like Beyonce and Adele and Chloe who designed Adele's dress and then took credit for the whole thing when people started complimenting the style.) I'm not agreeing with Marc Jacobs I actually kind of find his response to the whole incredibly tactless, all I said was that maybe people are being a little too aggressive about this.
As a white person who is admittedly very ignorant about other cultures, I really appreciate these videos. I don't always understand the struggles of other people but I always try to see what I can do better as a person to not be an ignorant fuck.
At least you look for information and do not come in our spaces looking for confrontation. Would be nice to tell your fellow white people how you do it. Most pretend that they want to understand but won't miss the occasion to make stupid objections...
I know. I get so embarrassed knowing I am associated with that ignorance. I find that when you shake someone's faith by telling them how WRONG and misinformed they have been their whole lives, they either have an open mind or go into attack mode 🙄
And this is how it works. When you don't know, you seek out the "how" especially with different cultures. I have friends from different countries with different cultures and when I wanted to learn about who they were when I met them, I sought out the information on them. It's that simple....I appreciate you taking the time to seek out WHY we feel the way we do. That's the start Jazmine for all of us.
I effing LOVE you for this Jazmine! I really do. This is all we are asking. Not just because you agree. But because you've opened your mind, admitted that you didn't know at first, and then learned something. Why the hell would someone come here to call this post "untrue" or "whiny"? (rhetorical) If you don't get, you just don't get it. If you disagree, you just disagree. But damn, at least ATTEMPT to understand what others are going through. Hell, I'm not adopted but I wouldn't dare tell an adopted person that their "abandonment issues" are not valid or say "well, at least someone took you in"...."apparently someone did want you"...."you're overreacting, as usual"..."stop whining".
how appropriate is this video in light of the U.S. just legalizing the right to discriminate against people with locs in the workplace. a law that will undoubtedly affect black people disproportionately. Meanwhile Marc Jacobs ...
Ya when I saw that, I was pissed because it's bad enough people can't work just because of how they look, now it's practically cultural! I always loved dreads, on every race...I agree with Jackie 100% on this too!
I just don't understand how someone can listen to the experiences of black women and CONTINUE to say that their experiences are invalid. You know what? You've never been a black woman and you never will be so why would you think it's not in your best interest to LISTEN to the experiences of others that you would never get the chance to experience? And then you want to sit there and call someone uneducated? No boo. How about you educate yourself and listen to the actual experiences of real people instead of reading about it in some textbook that's made from a white perspective? You don't see race because you don't surround yourself and immerse yourself in different cultures. You have blinders on and you assume that your experience on this earth is what everyone else experiences and it's not. Take your blinders off. It's okay to be wrong! It's okay to have been influenced by how society subconsciously trains us to believe that non-white means less than. But what's important is to take a step back and see that how our society values "different" kinds of people is wrong. Sure, maybe you have friends of all genders and races and sexual orientations, but there IS a problem out there with how "different" people are treated and you need to use your voice (being white in America, or cis gendered, or straight) to call attention to that and make change and elevate the voices of your friends who don't get the same chances you do. And side note: privilege does not mean being born with a silver spoon in your mouth. Yes, there are also many issues among classes of people as well. But if you think that someone who is black has the same opportunities as someone who is white, then you need to take another look around.
I think people are missing the point; the problem isn't with white people wearing dreads. The problem is when the society who calls dreads and kinky hair on people of color ghetto or that it looks like they haven't showered but then are all of a sudden able to see it as beautiful and edgy on a white people, that's where the frustration starts. Its not about who can and can't wear it; wear whatever the hell you want and wear your hair in whatever style you please, that is your right. Just don't act like dreads/locs are only beautiful on certain people. I hate the excuse 'I don't see color' when there an all-white cast or set of models. That's not what is needed; why do people feel the need to pretend race doesn't exist instead of just being inclusive to more than one race?
I haven't really seen many black people posting about things that weren't about the point Jackie made because her message was for US and we UNDERDTAND it, otherwise, i would have corrected them too. but Like i said, most white people in the comments are missing the point. I said that because thats what i see. Its not just a race thing. If you see a black person missing the point, then you should correct them too an so will I.
Dear Jackie! As a white girl from Russia, who is really far-far away from the problem of inclusiveness of POC (because frankly, we don't have as many of POC), we get the information on such conflicts as this one, and the opinion from our side is generally "these POC need to CHILL". But when you actually break it down the way you did in this video and explain that there really IS a problem when women of African descent are being discriminated for their natural hairstyle , this is when I, for instance, get to the realization why this is such a big and sensitive issue. So you got to get this message across an ocean and got it to my head and I will definitely spread the word to my friends. And for that I applaud you. XO, Mariia.
Actually, the KKK is still alive. Just google it if you don't think so. A lot of people don't know or forget because the media doesn't give them much coverage.
I can't believe he went the with the 'nobody criticises black women for weaves and straightening their hair'. black kids still catch flack for wearing cornrows...
The main issue with appropriation is not that other cultures find certain cultures appealing and use their stuff. Its the fact that when said cultures wear their own stuff (for example, bantu knots or natural hairstyles for black people, they are insulted and told its inappropriate. I was forced to straighten my hair in middle school because my natural hair wasn't 'tidy' and 'neat'. Then in high school (I went to a boarding school) I was made to cut my hair because it would be a distraction and too hard to maintain. But when other people wear famously black hairstyles, its trendy and edgy and all of a sudden fresh. I don't mind other people wearing black hairstyles, I just don't like that there is a double standard.
For y'all white folks saying that we need to chill and that we're being too sensitive, don't forget that not too long ago y'all were crying over Zendaya being casted as Mary Jane in the new Spider-Man. Smh
@1pimpafro no it isn't, they said because of her hair she can't be Mary Jane. because Mary Jane is a red head a blk girl can't play her it has to be a white girl.
Not at all @1pimpafro. Why do you (generally speaking) get to tell people how they feel over something that's actually an issue when you cry over dumb shit like fictional characters?
Unless the actual BACKSTORY of a character ties directly into their nationality/heritage, I could really care less who they cast. Also, half those idiots think that Miles Morales and Peter Parker are the same person, so they need to have several seats lol.
+Jade Laverty name one movie that was based off of a person of color and then played by white person 🙃 I'll wait while you have a seat. Cultural appropriation is real, if it wasn't it wouldn't be a term.
gremlin otter But even if you don't see the barrier that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. And for change to happen that barrier needs to be recognized and addressed. I get you have good intentions but that's not the right way of going about it.
Wtf? How is it stupid because not everyone in the world is racist. They don't see color, they just see humans because we are more alike than unlike. It's a damn shame we have racism a and sterotyoes.
Marc Jacobs is truly ignorant and he doesn't even realize and most likely doesn't even care how ignorant he is. This shit kills me time and time again. Like the fuck?! Your videos are truthful and funny.
He's so unaware of black culture that he wasn't even inspired by black people. Admitted by Marc himself previous to this PR scandal the muse for that collection was Lana Washowski one of the creators of The Matrix movies and Sense 8 series. She's been sporting colored faux dreads for a while way before his collection hit the runway and she was also the main model for the print campaign.
I love Jackie, I didn't understand why there was an issue, but hearing about the discrimination really woke me up as to why there's anger. She's amazing, and I love how she puts humor into it as well
kaylin white if it's straightened or curled we can wear it. But as for like a "wash n go" or our natural texture isn't prohibited... 3 girls at my job already quit because of it.
People where mad at zendaya for having dreads but it's fine when it's a white person? Alrighty then and everyone saying that Celtics and Vikings had dreads that's not the point they didn't naturally have them they could have combed their dreads out, but some black people do naturally have dreads and they get discriminated against for having their natural hair... so of course they feel they have to straighten their hair because they are criticised for it and it's a shame because their natural hair is soooo beautiful, I'm white and even I can see the problem
Yep, i'm mixed but mainly white, and my hair is curly and dark brown >:O and I started embracing it finally because some people used to call me a dog or even ugly because of my curls, I hate the stereotypes of some people, I feel bad for people of color, the struggles they go through is ridicuous...another reason i'm moving out of the US
Valentine Mistress I'm white/native american. and I have super frizzy, curly hair too I used to get called a lion, horse hair girl, told that my hair was nasty..my closest friends were the meanest because they were the only ones who saw me right when I got out of the shower. cause I would straighten it and throw it up in a pony tail and I will always be traumatized from that... but I'm trying to love my natural hair!
Okay his comment literally makes no sense, he says that poc straighten their hair but then he also says he sees no race or whatever HE LITERALLY JUST SAW RACE WHEN HE PAIRED STRAIGHT HAIR WITH WHITE PEOPLE?! Okay I'm done now
Marc Jacobs' response in a nutshell: "I am more aware of what should and should not offend people than the people that I am offending. I'm actually more evolved on the subject of race than anyone else. So fuck you, I'm not wrong, you're just crazy."
I wish we could do an experiment -- tell the Kardashians to start wearing head scarfs to bed lol I bet that will be the hot new hair care trend 🤔😂 I can't --
Brandy Chanell ^^^and she said to Marie Claire or whatever magazine that she started the wig trend😂😂😂😂 I guess she did!!! but let a black woman wear wigs!!!
This literally just happened to me yesterday! Smh...Marc Jacobs can sit. He cannot speak for my experience. He may not see race or color, but I know my boss and coworkers sure do! Thank you for this video.
RIGHT! Happens to me everyday. Also to my 3 year old at daycare (which is predominately white & Hispanic). It's okay to be ignorant. If you don't know, you just don't know. These people are not black and don't surround themselves with blacks and black culture, so I get that. BUT when we come to you and tell you plainly and respectfully how it makes us feel, where do you get the right to call us whiners, complainers, liars? Like really? How the f*ck do you know what people say to us, the looks we get, the snide comments that are made, the way we get treated on the job? The blatant disrespect we get? But we're paranoid? We're making it up? Child, I seriously wish I could hit some of their azzes with a magic wand and make them black for 30 days. I swear they would "get it". They seriously don't accept that these things happen in their perfect country....the land of the free and the home of the brave. I'm like Kanye....."How Sway?!"
I'd take that magic wand and make it at least 90 days so they could REALLY get the gist of being black- during their payday or a holiday!!Let them get followed around in a store...
@@batoulasaad8443 Hi Batoul. Do you mean why or how? What essentially happens is that when someone says they "don't see race" or "don't see color", he or she is projecting their reality on that person because they are saying that that persona and them are the same. Which is not the case, especially if the person is a person of color. What that saying says to that person is that their realities are the same. Which they are not. Hopefully that helps answer your question.
As a black woman I really appreciate you taking the time to use your platform to speak on issues like these even though some people will feel some type of way. I'm really here for you and I'm here for this educational drag and the fact that you can express how you feel about the situation even though we know you love you some Marc Jacobs products but you had to put him in check one time. Thankkkkkkkkkyouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
Gigi is Palestinian and Kendall is Italian. Not sure why you'd say "of course there were there" as if they'e white. And no, that's not three generations back. Kris is full blooded Italian and Gigi's father is from Palestine (born in Israel).
And for those of you arguing the origin of dreads/locs/whatever you wanna call them, it's honestly pointless. White Americans sport the style because they've seen it in the media or locally and thought it looked cool. Not because of whoever you claim was doing it a bajillion years ago. Please understand that.
GIRL, thank you. Sit the f*ck down immediately! Just like when the rock a Bob Marley dreadlock wig and hat for Halloween. I guess it's not really a "Marley" or Jamaican wig. It's a style from a billion years ago that someone not black was wearing in 100 BC. Chile bye! The nerve! The unmitigated gal! I just can not with them! So ignorant and insensitive.
lol it's crazy honestly. People are really doing the Google Olympics to prove each other wrong as if it even matters. They know damn well they don't picture some ancient Greek person when they think of locs Patrice Hewitt
Which brings up the point "is it cultural appropriation or preferential racism?" Locks fell out of style/use among white ethnicities almost entirely due to Christianity. Later, when Africans were forced to America, locks were seen as uncivilized because only black people had them at the time and before that they had only heard about them from historical records of pagan Europe (before Christianity "saved" their souls.) But now more and more people are abandoning religious modesty in lieu of creative individualism. Which means white ethnicities are seeing black ethnicities with this common style and are going BACK to it. Mostly for fashion but some due to their hair texture or religion (Euro-paganism). It seems far more racist (in the "classic" sense) than culturally appropriative.
No it's still appropriation by definition. However an undertone of discrimination and or ignorance must be present when doing so. I don't think they are deliberately like "ooh I'm white so I can do it better". It's just blind admiration and mimicry
Did he say funny how we dont criticize women for straightening their hair? My daddy is white and about four years ago in high school i cut off my perm hair and now i just rock an afro and even my daddy keeps telling me to "comb my hair" "that looks nasty put it back how it was straight" wtf ??
People with locs have to cut their hair or else they can't get the job. My friend bought weave for her college job recruitment because she thinks its "more professional" than her natural hair -.- Marc Jacobs stfu .
I got that too as a kid. I'm Caribbean/ central/ Mediterranean mix with curly textured hair. My family on my mom's side all have pin straight hair and for years was told "you look prettier with straightened hair." But now with curly hair culture becoming a "trend" now they want to curly their hair and do anything to have volume.
As a gay man this opens a topic of racism in the gay community and ignorance. It's their and this is a golden example of that. I do not wear makeup but found this video and as a gay man & person of color fighting against THAT issue, THIS relates to another very real issue. Gay men like mark Jacobs, John Galiano etc, can and are capable of racism. Gay men are not exempt just because we are a sexuality based minority.
Queen Of Modesty I love how bible thumpers like your forget Matthew 7:1 judge not or you will be judged,For with the same judgment you pronounce, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. hope the door slams when it comes back too u
your arrogance does not come from god, I'd rather go to hell then be stuck with a terrible thumper like yourself, your message is not being lovingly delivered, it's being sent with malice and arrogance. fuck off, you think telling ppl their going to hell is gonna make anyone agree with u???? the god I believe in loves me and detests ppl like u who make him look like a monster.
Queen Of Modesty and you throwing scripture at me for my sexuality is judging me, condemning me is judging me. it comes back hope it's not a huge shock to you when it happens.
im a white girl (i say girl instead of woman because im only 16) and i love your tutorials and i love what you have to say. i appreciate the insight into issues im not familiar with. for example, i had no it was so frowned upon to wear one's hair naturally. thank you for bringing light to such issues and thank you for your message ❤️
Caprice Daniella but there's nothing dirty about hair that naturally grows kinky tho. People with textured hair have clean and well kept "professional" hair just like people whose hair is straight. The only reason why society considers it "unprofessional" is bc it deviates from the norm.
The people who say " there is only one race, the human race" do realize ONLY Africans have 100% HUMAN DNA while all the "others" who are not African have Neanderthal DNA which makes them NOT 100% human!!! Get your scholarship up before you keep spreading PSEUDO info no matter how loving and positive you "THINK" the info is!!! Make sure what your saying is #FACTS #DontBeLIEveTheHype ✌🏾️💜✊🏾
I FREAKING LOVED THIS SO DAMN MUCH! Not only is Jackie beauty but she got them brains too! I think it's fine when you take something from a culture because you genuinely like it but when you say dreads or locs look better on someone who's culture it isn't from as opposed to the person who's culture it came from then that's when cultural appropriation comes into play
I live in Australia and I wore braids to work and got called Shaniqua everyday for a week everyday. Oh no ma'am. I then changed to this straight blonde extensions and my boss yells across my office saying I love your hair like that! So this week, I been wearing my fro. You are going to learn to love this fro sir. Not tolerate! Love this fro. Mxm elongated goat.
YEESSSS!!! Absolutely well played Siobhan! That's the attitude! Hi five from overseas hon x Keep strong. It'll get easier after a few months, (and you'll see the constant 🐍 for who they are... They are irrelevant) Eventually, it'll get normal FOR YOU (if it hasn't already) which is the most important person to make love your hair. After that people have no choice but to follow suit. Well done again. This made me really happy and proud (although I don't know you) ☺️ Have a Great Day 🙂
I wore my fro to work for a good 3 months until I couldn't take the criticism anymore. All of a sudden I found my every move being scrutinized. I am in mgmt at a mortgage company and now I'm back to wearing wigs to conform. We aren't making this up. Then Marc's next mistake was saying he doesn't see color. CHILE BOO so basically you're saying you have the privilege of ignoring the struggles of POC. Boy if you don't...!
Khilla P they are obviously for any race and gender and respect and love it. They have to be the most closest family I’ve ever seen they openly love black people but so many black propel hate that millionaire white people could care less about race? Why are you complaining about a family that is pro everything good?
Khilla P I know my own culture and other cultures yet you refuse to acknowledge the fact broads weren’t invented by Africans. What about native, white ect if you’ve even learned the history and styles they wore. How can one be anti black when they legit have been and loved, sTarted families by black people? Are you just mad because they aren’t racist? Braiding isn’t a trend if you like it you do it no doubt majority of people knew what a braid was before they saw a black persons with it it’s not that hard to twist yah hair. I’m pro every race. Everything you comment is so racist against other races and you seem to blame white people for things they’ve done for centuries as well as us? Stealing culture is a thing but twisting your hair and saying someone outside your race is not apart of it that’s just called being racist if you think so
Lauryn Hendry you forget that the kardashians steal from black women. literally. khloe stole clothing designs from a black woman who runs plugged nyc. and kylie stolw from another black woman who owns a clothing company. just a couple weeks ago, kim got braids put in her hair and she called them "bo derick braids" as if that style isnt fully african smh. kim is also known to defend racists like jeffrey star . defend them all you want but, you look stupid while doing so. js
Thank you Jackie! We saw the pictures from his show and were a bit confused. As lovers of fashion, many designers do utilize their platform to highlight where they got inspiration from for a show/line but sadly many do not. It's quite disheartening especially when black women's hair is sooooo policed in societies worldwide. Having many designers copy the natural looks of black women and put it on white models is erasing the impact that black people have in fashion. We started fashion!! We are happy to now see people getting called out for cultural appropriation, it's not okay!
It just goes to show that while people take direction from fashion designers as to what's trendy, these same fashion designers are some of the most culturally ignorant and oppressive in society. Fashion is an aristocratic industry yet it continues to be funded, specifically by black people who apparently give no f***s. Economic withdrawal is the only form of protest mainstream society has ever responded to and yet we keep shoving our money in their hands. If we continue with business as usual, so will they.
this is why the term "colorblind" is toxic. when marc jacobs says he doesn't see color, he takes away a huge part of that person. color doesn't define you, but it is a major part of you. it wouldn't change my view of anyone, but i do acknowledge that race means a lot to people and saying "colorblind" takes that away.
I really like the way you explained this. Thank you so much for breaking what you usually do to use your platform and speak up. On another note, I'm pretty sure we fall in love with you every time you look into the camera. This look is just incredible, your mind is incredible. Thank you for sharing!
It's edgy and High Fashin AF ™ when Marc does it on snow white blonde models, but Zendaya was blasted for it on the red carpet, and people STILL sit there and go like "well it's just hair, anyone can wear their hair however they want", like !?!?!? Hair itself is not the issue, the issue is people who grow their hair like that naturally are ostracized for it, while those who wear it as a temporary fashion accessory are praised to the high heavens for it, without crediting the marginalized people it came from! The problem is how horribly poc are treated for wearing their own cultures, and how disrespected their cultures are when they're not being put on display by an edgy white girl. The issue is that black women are called ghetto for the same hair styles white women are being called cool and "eclectic" for. The issue is a black girl is called dirty for the same hair style a white girl is called fashion-forward for. The issue is that black people are still hated by so many in this country, but the same people that hate them love black cultures so much that they steal from them and pretend not to know where it all came from!!
I absolutely LOVE when people that have a large following/platform speak of issues that truly matter no matter how controversial instead of remaining silent. Thank you for never letting us down Jackie!👏🏾
I wish UA-cam would allow links so I could post a pic a box of foundations Marc jacobs have been sending containing 20 white shades and literally 3 brown shades. Ridiculous.
chilllleeeee in the middle they have these pink ass shades... i was like... who the fuck is this color?? LOL you can put some shades out here for pink people, but you can't come out with a more diverse variety for deeper skin tones? bitch.... lol
Marc Jacobs is a manipulator. He wants to control everyone. He's been stalking a young designer named Angel Barta for 7 years. He copied her work for many brands without giving her any credit! Read the truth about him at styleangelique blogspot
I keep seeing people excusing white people wearing dreads "because Vikings/Celts did it". No, neither wore dreads, they wore braids, there's a huge difference. Any artistic depiction of either with dreads is due to pure laziness of the artist. Vikings were actually fastidious about their hair, they would rebraid it every day and actually brought combs into battle with them. In the Celtic culture, knotwork and the number three were both very important - ever see the artwork of the Celts? Intricate, interwoven strands forming beautiful patterns. Their hair was the same way, they wouldn't have turned it into dreads, that would hide the intricate interweaving of the strands and there's no reason they would do that.
I'm glad you're calling it out. I'm a woman of mixed race heritage and people are always telling me "that doesn't really happen" or "that's not appropriation" when they only have a white background...headdresses, dread locs, afros, all of that stuff belongs to and was started in another culture. Knowing why they were created and what they mean and their origins is very important to understanding how to respectfully treat something. There's a serious movement starting in schools across the US that sickens me...it's trying to ban young women and men who have curly, natural hair to not wear it down and naturally to school. That only affects Black people or mixed people, as far as I know. It's a specific policy against Black hair, which means it's a policy against Black people. It doesn't apply to anyone else. Native Americans have the same issues with people wearing clothing "inspired" by their culture because, again, there is meaning behind every placement of design, bead and feather on every piece they make. Some of the pieces people wear are specifically made for important, spiritual ceremonies and it's disrespectful to just wear it around without insulting those who find it sacred. You made excellent points, Jackie. Some people just can't see it. It's one thing to say you take inspiration from a culture, but it's also great to give credit where it's due and embrace the culture. You see all of these things that Black, Latina and mixed race women have been doing for years...corn rows, locs, and their natural beauty, the full lips, the long lashes, the big booty. It's celebrated now on white women, but on Black women, it's seen as unprofessional? It's a double standard and appropriation and racist. Why do you only accept these things on white women? Please, just examine yourself. We're not trying to fight you or get into an argument. We're trying to help you understand that you take what you want from our cultures but refuse to accept the cultures from which these examples come as a whole.
I wasn't feeling Marc Jacob's response either. Yeah Jackie, I remember when Zendaya was attacked and was called dirty for wearing dreadlocks to the Oscars. All of a sudden it's cool and acceptable when white people wear it. When we wear cornrows and bantu knots we are called "ghetto." When white people wear it, it's "cute and trendy." Black women and mutli-racial women have been programmed by society to be ashamed of their kinks, curls, locks, and braids for years. I remember I was told by my boss to take out my long jumbo braids because they were "inappropriate for the job." I was a CASHIER for crying out loud lol. We straighten our hair to assimilate because we've been taught all our lives that "straight hair is the best hair. It's more beautiful, professional, and appropriate." African school girls are forced to shave their hair basically because their hair is considered "too much work"....and it's distracting. We have just been convinced that our hair is bad. It's a shame. This is why the natural hair movement is so important.
If you're going to demonstrate a specific hairstyle or ANYTHING from a specific culture, especially on such a big platform, at least have more than 2 people of that culture to represent that piece of their history. It's more than just a moment on a runway, it's a time for them to increase the exposure to their culture. Its an opportunity for those women to be proud and to be influential. Thats why it makes no sense for him to have numerous white models wearing that hairstyle and about 2 people of color. In my eyes, it just doesn't bring respect to the culture whatsoever. When someone of color like Zendaya is called "dirty" for wearing the same hairstyle of her culture, and is publicly shamed on a talk show with ignorant comments like "I feel like she smells like patchouli oil and weed." that's when you know that the African American culture NEEDS to be shown in a positive light. So to be so dismissive of the opposing point of the argument, as Marc Jacobs was, just allows for more negative light to be cast upon a culture that does not get the recognition it deserves. Also, the fact that he even TRIED us all with that straightener bid tested my sanity. *drops mic*
Ohhh mah gawd Jackie, this beat tho?! I had to pause the video and get the slay out my system before continuing to listen. So glad you did this video and talked about this!
I live in Germany and here everybody that likes dreads walks around with dreads. It doesn't matter if your black or with or whatever. I'm sorry but it seems like people in the US are so close minded because everywhere is racism. It is not ok to tell black women their hair is ugly or gross but it is also not ok to accuse somebody of cultural insensitivity because they like those hair styles and embrace it on other races. To hate on Marc Jacobs for inappropriat black hair styles on white women is also insensitive. To make a statement for it to be looked as 'normal' is the only way of get rid of racism. don't you think? That show has nothing to do with white priviledge.
I'm go to Germany quite often, and I live in the Netherlands myself. Just because a bunch of white people here wear it and don't overtly get criticized for it doesn't mean people of color don't get heard, doesn't mean it does not happen. Remember there's a lot of (hidden) racism in Europe and xenophobia because of western imperialism. Europe invented racism..
So basically, you want to normalize different cultures on white people, before we view it as normal on the POC, or in this case the black women who embraced this part of their culture a long time ago in order to eliminate racism?
i just want to know who can we overcome the racism without accepting eachother for who we are and embracing eachother? thats the point i don't get. isn't overcoming the racism in the world that lead us to world peace? i think black women should wear their hair however they want and be accepted. muslimas should wear whatever they want. everbody should wear whatever they want. or they should wear nothing at all because it does not change the person you are and that's whats important to me. of course society is different and shitty. and thats so sad i can't explain how much i hate that fact.
I agree. I live in Northern Europe and when I wear any protective style for my curly hair (like last year when I wore box braids) people said that I looked like a drug dealer, gangsta, ghetto, ratchet, etc right at my face. Then when someone else (who wasn't black/mixed) wore it suddenly they looked beautiful, down to earth, artistic, etc. In my opinion we need to embrace and normalize those hairstyles first on black women (and other styles belonging to other cultures and people) first because that is the main problem.
It didn't really "start" anywhere though, it's how human hair acts naturally if it isn't treated/left naturally, ya know? Not trying to be mean or anything, just saying :P
+Marthethea Not trying argue with you. But, there's a lot of hairstyles that started in the black community. And, I get passed off when someone says oh it didn't really start anywhere. I'm like 😒.
His statement was very tastless and worse uneducated. He could've simply said "Dreads are not exclusive to African and Caribbean culture for Native Americans , Greeks, and Celtics have worn dreads too for many centuries. Thought for future shows I'll definitely make sure more brown skin women throughout Africa and the Caribbean are represented too" That would've been the correct way to address the situation.
The Greeks and Celtics took it from the Egyptians btw. The Greeks took many cultural things from Egyptians. Even some of their famous architecture can be seen implemented in Egypt before the Greeks.
Guess if we were to take it back many millenniums that argue can be made too. He should've simply had all them spreaded out fairly equally, blacks, Caribbeans, Celtics, Romans, Greeks, Germans, and Native Americans.
Sorry for nitpicking, but there's actually no evidence that the Celts wore dreadlocks. They wore some matted hairstyles (with the help of lime to make the hair coarse) as well as braids, but not dreadlocks.
+Anime Fan. I don't know as much about Vikings and Germanic tribes, but I suspect that they wore some other type of matted style rather than what we would consider dreadlocks today. And regardless, I don't really think it's relevant to this discussion. The long-forgotten traditions of a handful of European cultures isn't comparable to the enormous social/cultural significance of locks amongst the African diaspora throughout modern history, in addition to a few other cultures and religions in other parts of the world. Besides, most white people who wear dreadlocks nowadays do so because they appeal to their neo-primitivist aesthetic or some misguided notion of being "in tune with nature" or something like that. Or they just think they look weird, different, and cool. That may seem innocent enough... but it's a slap in the face to those for who wear dreadlocks for cultural/religious reasons, especially those who don't have the privilege of being able to wear natural hairstyles without being ostracized, harassed, fired, denied opportunities, etc.
You know you one of the best You Tubers I have come across on UA-cam especially on beauty. One of my favorite things about you is that you stick to what you are going to say and keeping your viewers interested to the last minute. Secondly you don't spend too much time talking about yourself to the detriment of your topic of the day and I truly like your voice because I can actually understand and hear what you say which is very important especially when your audiences are from all over the world and may have difficulty understanding due to accents. Lovely topic by the way
I absolutely HATE when people say they "don't see color." What that says to me is they don't acknowledge and respect my culture or our struggles enough to care.
I'm so sorry what you beautiful black ladies go through. Yous have naturally had these things and have us white women take it from under you and suddenly it is a trend. I'm white, but I see from your perspective and I totally understand. I appreciate your originality and beauty and I hope America does too. Please don't support Marc Jacobs anybody including white ladies! Support our beautiful sun kissed black ladies, support black owned brands and stop supporting these racist trash (Marc Jacobs and Jeffree Star) spread only love! ☀️❤️👩🏻👩🏼👩🏽👩🏾👩🏿
Also Jackie, you had such a wonderful reply you are so mature and your mindset is great. You look gorgeous in this video and your lip color is amazing, what is it? ❤️
"Nobody wants to give Africa credit." Exactly what I thought. All of these "new and cool" trends have always existed where they came from which is AFRICA. They keep taking from us and won't have the decency to give us credit. SMDH To those missing the point, what we want is for those who call these "new trends" to know that nothing is new here. Braid your hair but don't tell me it's new 'cause it ain't. Marc Jacobs could have showcased more diversity on his runway show since this seemed like a good opportunity for him to do that. The issue of diversity on the runway is real and has been brought up by well known models such as Iman and Naomi Campbell.
who the fuck cares??? everytime someone wears their hair in braids or dreads theyre not gonna walk around every second saying "oh btw im giving credit to africa!" like its not that serious lol
We care because we've gone years of being told our culture was of lower range and now all of sudden everyone wants to adopt things from it while excluding us. If u ain't lived it don't speak on it. Of course we aren't talking about regular people because nobody will make a blog post about some lady from somewhere wearing her hair in braids. We are talking about these trendsetters who once they have something on it is considered a trend. Cornrows which is what they are called are not new. Let's call them what they are.
Jailyn Gjika Thats not what we mean sweetie. What we actually want them(You) to do is not to call us ghetto when we wear cornrows etc, and then go ahead, put some cornrows on your head and say that is a new fashion, like you invented it or something. Cornrows, bantu knots, box braids...ARE NOT A TREND, they are a culture. OUR culture. You wouldn't want anyone messing with your history, saying shit like "Oh well George washington was not a president, a black men named Elvis, was" get it?
Umm. I'm a pale white girl and I was super offended by this!! I hate that this has to be an issue. I personally find natural hair so stunning and pretty. Like hello! God made us all beautiful. He just used his damn voice and pull to trash an entire culture. I agree with you completely. Even if I could afford his products I wont be buying it!
As is with most controversial issues, it's very common to encounter public criticisms that either misrepresent or misunderstand the true sociological, historical, and philosophical roots of these issues. I wasn't sure what I would think of your response, but I have to say that I like and agree with what you said especially at 2:30 and 5:50. Your response was well said, and it's very evident that there is a commendable level of intellect, rationality, and sophistication in your judgement. Although I would expect nothing less from you, I have to say that I was both pleasantly surprised and inspired by this video. Much love. Proverbs 3:13.
I wasn't allowed to wear my natural hair until high school. The school said my natural hair was distracting and i needed to straighten my hair or I wouldn't be allowed back in class. The fact that he said that disgusts me.
Child I wore a bun in my first stage in the interview process, my second? Child I two strand twisted my hair n wore that mess...tamed but curly ...I got the job...I've been where my curls naturally... I use to be scared but now nope...✊🏾
Yea. All the way up until about 2012 I worried about my locs (when I had them) being a factor in whether a job would hire me. But a switch went off in my mind and I've decided, fuck that. FUCK THAT!
I remember my best friend who was the first to go natural in my high school, permed her hair after college because she wasn't getting hired. A few weeks after her perm she got her first job. Some fields/corporations are just more conservative than others & if you want to get your foot in, you must conform.
Lmao girl I will wear a weave during interview process but come start day? Full blown twist out Afro I give zero fucks after I am hired BC I wish u would fire me for my hair so I can sue the hell out they asses
+Ipole4 fitness I think back in the early 2000s this black hair pride wave hadn't quite taken off. Each decade we become a little more brave. we didn't go from hot combs to twist outs overnight.
I only recently found you because I've recently upped my makeup addiction because it helps me deal with my depression. And...wow. I came for the makeup, I've stayed for your politics. For you. You're inspiring. Thank you ❤
In high school I met this amazing teacher with locs. One day he cut them off and when asked why he said he wanted to be a principle. After being rejected numerous times, he was hired within a week after the cut. Hair discrimination is real.
Wtf that's terrible. I knew that hair discrimination was real and still here today, but I didn't realize it would be that bad......
Nanase B. J
santana why dismiss other people's experiences.
my boyfriend got rejected for jobs because he had long hair in a pony tail.
"I don't see color" yeah marc we can tell by your foundation shade range
omggg get some ice!!+
💀💀💀💀💀💀
AHHHHHHH drag him
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂exactly cuz none of his foundations match me
This comment is everything!!!!
Not every cultures perception of hair is the same, hair could be of little to no importance to you, but to (in this instance) POC it holds so much meaning and tradition.
what you say about Jeffree is not true. at all.
boo the receipts are out there. Jeffree Star has been known to partake in racist activities on SEVERAL different occasions. Google is your friend.
agreed
Right, and I can respect that. I can't respect those that don't say anything
Zendaya was literally attacked on social media for wearing hairstyles, from her culture, which were praised when white people wore them at this runway show
Robyn Callow yep
and... ?. that's no reason to get mad at marc jacobs. that's a reason to get mad at our society.
lilly succ they didn't say it is. They're saying that societal views are a mess.
lilly succ and who is society ? 🤔
Robyn Callow yeah I remember and Joan river came her....I love her and she such a free spirited person
Aaaaaaahhh! She said, "you don't see color...well I'm looking at your models and I don't see color either." Get 'em!!
Carolyn19791 I nearly choked on my water when she said that!
Carolyn19791 I was dead 😂😂😂😂😂
Carolyn19791 yesss 😂🤷🏿♀️
Carolyn19791 Yessss
Carolyn19791 HAHAHAH IKR OMG
I remember when they were shaming Zendaya for that hairstyle and I wanted to cry. It's so sad.
Tasha Rob and she looked freakin gorgeous too. Jealous old hoes!
I know everyone should be able to enjoy your hair, black, white, or mixed
"I don't see color" Yeah no shit Marc Jacobs. Your foundation shades go from frosty the snowman to light caramel
Girl!!!!! Yassssss😭😭😭😭 this better get to top comment!
😂😂😫😫😫
😂😂😂💀
yass!
😂😂😂😂😂
when Marc said that nobody criticizes black girls for straightening their hair, i had to pause the video to write this.
Not only that but straight hair isn't confined to one culture, white, asian, black, hispanic, all have straight hair😒
I love that you're more than just makeup. You're an intelligent woman who's not afraid to use her platform to speak of injustices of all kinds. 👏🏿👏🏿. Btw..... What is that lipstick you're wearing?! 😍
Lena lashes Luscious lipstick (link in the description box)
Kawanna Hardy okK I
Marc Jacobs is ignorant. Not all white people are born with straight hair either...smh.
THIS, finally somebody said it thank you, they always think white people hair is easy wel it's not there's a lot of difference
He said that in the comment while apologizing and saying he didn't mean to offend anyone if he did.
💯
Exactly
Drea Danielle forgive but never forget. He did the same thing with bantu knots
Everything a woman of color brings whether it being full lips, hips and natural kinky, coily hair always has a "wanted" sign on them by other races . It's all good and all 'new' as long as it's not on us .
Cornrows=boxer braids
Serena Williams=Kim Kardashian
melanin =tanning
Everything that comes natural to us is ugly when it's on us but beautiful when it's not on us .
in my opinion PoC are beautiful and I'm upset that even in 2016 your natural looks are shamed... and the praised when white people change themselves to get these features
PREACH!!
Everyone wants to be black, but no one wants to be black...🤔 They want our features, but not our struggle.🙄
Yup...
So very True!
I don't understand people who say they don't see color. Seeing color is part of celebrating our diversity. Marc Jacob's response just sounded all types of wrong.
Sophia Pang we should celebrate colour black, white , or mixed, just because you celebrate colour doesn’t mean it has to divide us
Marc Jacobs' response in a nutshell: "I am more aware of what should and should not offend people than the people that I am offending. I'm actually more evolved on the subject of race than anyone else. So fuck you, I'm not wrong, you're just crazy."
There’s honestly nothing wrong with acknowledging that some is a different race it’s how you treat them
Thank you for speaking out!
Wtffff where do you live? That's crazy
Yes Angela, I am there with you. It is absolutely horrible. So forget the knowledge and brilliance that inside your head...we're more concerned with what's on your head, meaning your natural hair - the way it was literally created. The Nerve!
this is bullshit. I want to know what company this is so I can avoid their products.
By saying "i don't see color" you are essentially saying "I see everyone as white".
i subscribed to your channel just because of you're comment. it was perfect. hope it helps you get more views.
+KiKianaKi have to slightly disagree with the last bit.. up until a few years ago I was in the no colour camp just because I thought everyone was equal in my eyes.. I've since learned a lot (still am mind you) and evolved on the subject. there's a lot of colours and cultures, I love it when I walk around and see 200+ nationalities in my small city. too bad not everyone agrees
well yeah
KiKianaKi intelligent
I love natural hair on black woman, I think its beautiful. I wish it was more accepted. that's total BS
Sammi Jane Davis same. and I'm not even black or mixed. its just not fair.
Pandia it's not just a "black people trait". Hispanic girls can have really curly hair too.
+LaTonya Roberts That's a good point, I didn't quite think of it like that before :)
Jazmine this is a beautifully honest post, thank you.
Is this true? Do you have an article? I'd like to see so I can share it around
www.nbcnews.com/news/nbcblk/u-s-court-rules-dreadlock-ban-during-hiring-process-legal-n652211
Ya when I saw that, I was pissed because it's bad enough people can't work just because of how they look, now it's practically cultural! I always loved dreads, on every race...I agree with Jackie 100% on this too!
thank you for pointing that out, people are really stubborn about believing that this is legally sanctioned!
I hate the world we live in ughhhhhhhhhhh
Marc Jacobs can take several seats😑
every seat we fucking have
"Be humble, sit down"
Krhodes02 I
I just don't understand how someone can listen to the experiences of black women and CONTINUE to say that their experiences are invalid.
@ Chey Longhini - you are one intelligent, insightful, logical person full of common sense and compassion...I applaud you!
Chey Longhini people like you give me hope. I wish more people were this way
Chey Longhini you are bomb 💕
Best coment ever!!!! Finally an intelligent, white person that gets the message👏👏👏👏👏👍
Ya'll remember the "mini buns" aka Bantu Knots?
Girl that ish got me piss girl. Now they're discovering the hot comb and baby hair. Dis too much 😒
doesn't everyone have baby hair though?
edwardlovrr they started geling it and say look we discovered baby hair (sleeking) and hot combing. Introducing it like it's new.
ohh okay i was confused thanks for explaining
@edwardlovrr
No. Everyone doesn't have baby hair.
Most white people in this comment section are definitely missing the point.
Calling white people ignorant constantly is pretty racist tbh
Diana N Wasn't really my point to call white people those who are missing the point. I've met black people who don't understand either
Justa Bunneh I agree. I feel like it's counterproductive and just judgmental
XO, Mariia.
Amen sister
🥂❤️
Thank my russian sister - you are an ally!!
Straightened hair is suddenly culture now😍😍😍😍😍😍😫😫😫😫😫👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼😫
White people:"We don't have a terrorist group!"
Um, what are you talking about, you have the KKK?
Apparently killing black people is alright. So It can't be considered terrorism. And then they be talking about "Racism doesn't exist"
apparently my limp flat hair is my culture and tbh I'm pissed about that I don't want this to be my culture this is a shit culture damn it Marc
Kkk is no better than Isis . Same shit
* he went there
He is a certified mess for that
He's a whole dumbass
Sara rose 200% ;)
"No one wants to give Africa credit." Exactly. That's what it comes down to. And it's been like that with white people in the US for years.
They don't even want to credit Africa as the birthplace of modern humans..
credit is too much to ask, respect at least
wtf do you want? they're not wearing it to make a joke out of it. they're wearing it because they find it appealing? how is that disrepectful
I don't mind other people wearing black hairstyles, I just don't like that there is a double standard.
you were not forced to. you chose to because of someone's opinions. if you were so proud of it you wouldn't care
"I don't see color" well I'm looking at your show and I don't see color too. 💀💀💀😂😂😂
Tina Buller 💀💀💀💀
Tina Buller 💀💀💀
For y'all white folks saying that we need to chill and that we're being too sensitive, don't forget that not too long ago y'all were crying over Zendaya being casted as Mary Jane in the new Spider-Man. Smh
@1pimpafro no it isn't, they said because of her hair she can't be Mary Jane. because Mary Jane is a red head a blk girl can't play her it has to be a white girl.
Not at all @1pimpafro. Why do you (generally speaking) get to tell people how they feel over something that's actually an issue when you cry over dumb shit like fictional characters?
Just like the Idris Elba James Bond situation. It's fucking comical these characters are fictional for god sake does it matter who plays them. Smh.
I hate when people say "I don't see color" that's so stupid.
Sparkle LaBelle that's their way of trying to make themselves not sound racist...
gremlin otter But even if you don't see the barrier that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. And for change to happen that barrier needs to be recognized and addressed. I get you have good intentions but that's not the right way of going about it.
What if their mother is the one who taught them racism? Where do you think generational racists come from?
gremlin otter parents are where racism comes from.
He's so unaware of black culture that he wasn't even inspired by black
people. Admitted by Marc himself previous to this PR scandal the muse
for that collection was Lana Washowski one of the creators of The Matrix
movies and Sense 8 series. She's been sporting colored faux dreads for
a while way before his collection hit the runway and she was also the
main model for the print campaign.
I love Jackie, I didn't understand why there was an issue, but hearing about the discrimination really woke me up as to why there's anger. She's amazing, and I love how she puts humor into it as well
I work at twin peaks and hooters. We're not allowed to have "textured" hair because it doesn't "fit" the "standards" of how our hair is suppose to be.
IAmTionnaJ I've been to twin peaks and almost every black female in their had natural hair out , maybe its just the one you work at.
kaylin white if it's straightened or curled we can wear it. But as for like a "wash n go" or our natural texture isn't prohibited... 3 girls at my job already quit because of it.
IAmTionnaJ Ik this is off topic but Twin Peaks is a real place?!
Wow I will no longer be going there. Thanks for informing me
There are four words in this sentence that had me about to fight a bitch. So done.
GIRL WHATTTT I AINT KNOW YOU WAS IN THE MILITARY RESPECT
my best friend, also black, just came back :,) she did that to wear braids the whole time & have it tied in the back
I could not adore you more if I tried!
No reply lol smh
+M Stokes let's not instigate
Back at u lol we adore you too Shann!!
And not all white peoples have straight hair tf I mean mines curly n thick this guy is sooo stupid🙄
exactly as guilana rancic or whatever or name said she looked like she does weed or something racist was said about zendaya good pt
Yep, i'm mixed but mainly white, and my hair is curly and dark brown >:O and I started embracing it finally because some people used to call me a dog or even ugly because of my curls, I hate the stereotypes of some people, I feel bad for people of color, the struggles they go through is ridicuous...another reason i'm moving out of the US
Isobelle Faulkner, i'm glad to know there are still open minded people like you out there
Valentine Mistress I'm white/native american. and I have super frizzy, curly hair too I used to get called a lion, horse hair girl, told that my hair was nasty..my closest friends were the meanest because they were the only ones who saw me right when I got out of the shower. cause I would straighten it and throw it up in a pony tail and I will always be traumatized from that... but I'm trying to love my natural hair!
You're not just all makeup and I love it you're actually a role model.
Okay his comment literally makes no sense, he says that poc straighten their hair but then he also says he sees no race or whatever HE LITERALLY JUST SAW RACE WHEN HE PAIRED STRAIGHT HAIR WITH WHITE PEOPLE?! Okay I'm done now
hehehe. I'm not laughing at you, because your comment made me smile. But I'm still laughing.
Marc Jacobs' response in a nutshell: "I am more aware of what should and should not offend people than the people that I am offending. I'm actually more evolved on the subject of race than anyone else. So fuck you, I'm not wrong, you're just crazy."
I wish we could do an experiment -- tell the Kardashians to start wearing head scarfs to bed lol I bet that will be the hot new hair care trend 🤔😂 I can't --
Maybe. When Kylie wrapped her hair they thought it was an amazing act
Brandy Chanell ^^^and she said to Marie Claire or whatever magazine that she started the wig trend😂😂😂😂 I guess she did!!! but let a black woman wear wigs!!!
Brandy Chanell RIGHT
Brandy Chanell you know it
know shit tho when famous people do things or wear things it becomes popular that's how popular influence
I'd take that magic wand and make it at least 90 days so they could REALLY get the gist of being black- during their payday or a holiday!!Let them get followed around in a store...
or drive while being black
Saying that you "don't see someone's race" is just another type of racism.
Kai Vickers why??????
Of course Kendall and Gigi were walking with this show
Ok so he doesn't "see color" but manages to hire virtually all white people?
Lol I'm tired of all those pseudo-model who's career was bought with fame and daddy's money😒
exactly
Gigi is Palestinian and Kendall is Italian. Not sure why you'd say "of course there were there" as if they'e white. And no, that's not three generations back. Kris is full blooded Italian and Gigi's father is from Palestine (born in Israel).
Actually, Gigi's father is from PALESTINE.
And for those of you arguing the origin of dreads/locs/whatever you wanna call them, it's honestly pointless. White Americans sport the style because they've seen it in the media or locally and thought it looked cool. Not because of whoever you claim was doing it a bajillion years ago. Please understand that.
True true
Which brings up the point "is it cultural appropriation or preferential racism?"
Locks fell out of style/use among white ethnicities almost entirely due to Christianity. Later, when Africans were forced to America, locks were seen as uncivilized because only black people had them at the time and before that they had only heard about them from historical records of pagan Europe (before Christianity "saved" their souls.)
But now more and more people are abandoning religious modesty in lieu of creative individualism.
I love that you speak out on these issues that are felt so strongly in the black community, thank you Jackie! 💖
My friend bought weave for her college job recruitment because she thinks its "more professional" than her natural hair -.- Marc Jacobs stfu .
and black parents do the same too
Girl, what? Tell your dad to stop saying that shit! My dad (Black) says stuff of that ilk and I put him in his place.
sydney plummer my mother did it!!
Queen Of Modesty oh look a "your going to hell christian" I'm not changing my sexuality I have no control over. Give a rest.
Queen Of Modesty oh no u tried it...no one asked for the whole damn bible😂😂
Queen Of Modesty I love how bible thumpers like your forget Matthew 7:1
judge not or you will be judged,For with the same judgment you pronounce, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
hope the door slams when it comes back too u
your arrogance does not come from god, I'd rather go to hell then be stuck with a terrible thumper like yourself, your message is not being lovingly delivered, it's being sent with malice and arrogance. fuck off, you think telling ppl their going to hell is gonna make anyone agree with u???? the god I believe in loves me and detests ppl like u who make him look like a monster.
Wow you on point tho
THANK. 👏 YOU. 👏 GURL. 👏👏👏👏
My brother has to cut his naturally kinky hair to get an engineering position. We're not making this up
Felicia wtf the discrimination
Felicia same
Felicia just like in the army every race needs to shave their beard and head. To look "clean, and professional"
And girls need to tie it back
Caprice Daniella but there's nothing dirty about hair that naturally grows kinky tho. People with textured hair have clean and well kept "professional" hair just like people whose hair is straight. The only reason why society considers it "unprofessional" is bc it deviates from the norm.
Who hating asses disliked this? 😐 probably those "we need to stop making everything about race" people 🙄🙄🙄
true dat
yesss or them "the only race is human race"
The people who say " there is only one race, the human race" do realize ONLY Africans have 100% HUMAN DNA while all the "others" who are not African have Neanderthal DNA which makes them NOT 100% human!!! Get your scholarship up before you keep spreading PSEUDO info no matter how loving and positive you "THINK" the info is!!! Make sure what your saying is #FACTS #DontBeLIEveTheHype ✌🏾️💜✊🏾
"we all bleed red"
the "we all bleed red" people
You are amazing Jackie!! I support you 100%...this kind of appropriation has been going on too long and it is unacceptable!
Elongated goat! Lol
Yeah it's pretty bad. This video gave us a voice so it makes us all feel so at peace. Thank you big sis.
This made me really happy and proud (although I don't know you) ☺️ Have a Great Day 🙂
Welcome's House h
This video alone, has made me respect you on a whole other level.. Thanks for keeping it 1000...
EXACTLY THIS. So disappointed in Marc Jacobs.
I hate that you have to do this. Be strong!
"yeah, I'm looking at your runway and I don't see color either." 😂 I looove youuuu.
Just found your channel and I am officially in love with you. Keep doin' you boo. xo
hey. just found your channel because of this comment. whats good boo im your newest follower 💋💋
When someone says "I don't see color, I see people" that just tells me that you put on your blindfold today and you choose to not see the the problem.
You've been in the military?! Omg I respect you EVEN more now! You're inspiring
Katie L99 EXACTLY
I feel the same way about Kylie Jenner and just the whole Kardashian family, so much anti blackness has been shown through 2016 it's ridiculous
Babygirl K they’re pretty pro black
Babygirl K why KYLIE tho? She just puts out makeup.
A. Love is the answer is only for people not asking questions.
I agree.
love this !!
Watching this and was just like she is literally a look without trying!! Keep slaying gorgeous
She literally killed him with ALL THE RECEIPTS all she spoke was facts #HateItOrLoveIt Truth is truth
this is why the term "colorblind" is toxic. when marc jacobs says he doesn't see color, he takes away a huge part of that person. color doesn't define you, but it is a major part of you. it wouldn't change my view of anyone, but i do acknowledge that race means a lot to people and saying "colorblind" takes that away.
I really like the way you explained this. Thank you so much for breaking what you usually do to use your platform and speak up. On another note, I'm pretty sure we fall in love with you every time you look into the camera. This look is just incredible, your mind is incredible. Thank you for sharing!
I love you so much! So humorous and lighthearted while still being so informed and delivering your message with such grace. LIVE FOR YOU.
Ridiculous.
did u see the 1st shade....i bet its meant for a white peoples motuary !!!
Then they be like "ugh I'm so pale no shade EVERRRRR matches me" girl bye.
chilllleeeee in the middle they have these pink ass shades... i was like... who the fuck is this color?? LOL you can put some shades out here for pink people, but you can't come out with a more diverse variety for deeper skin tones? bitch.... lol
very dead my dear ...noone is that white ...check it ....phewww...ode oshi @pumpkinwhaever
GO AWF JACKIE. THANK YOUUUUUUUU
EDUCATE THEM MUVAAAA
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Thanks for the courage to express your opinion Hun. Oh by the way that face is flawless.
I heard that was YOU, awesome lady! Love your channel
So basically, you want to normalize different cultures on white people, before we view it as normal on the POC, or in this case the black women who embraced this part of their culture a long time ago in order to eliminate racism?
thank you! i 100% agree
i just want to know who can we overcome the racism without accepting eachother for who we are and embracing eachother? thats the point i don't get. isn't overcoming the racism in the world that lead us to world peace? i think black women should wear their hair however they want and be accepted. muslimas should wear whatever they want. everbody should wear whatever they want. or they should wear nothing at all because it does not change the person you are and that's whats important to me. of course society is different and shitty. and thats so sad i can't explain how much i hate that fact.
I literally couldn't wait to see what you had to say about this
And I agree with every word you said
Won't Be wearing anything Marc Jacobs....Boi bye🙋🏿
Now they saying dreads were started in Europe 😭😭😭😭😭 the Celtics had dreads 🙄
It didn't really "start" anywhere though, it's how human hair acts naturally if it isn't treated/left naturally, ya know? Not trying to be mean or anything, just saying :P
+Marthethea Not trying argue with you. But, there's a lot of hairstyles that started in the black community. And, I get passed off when someone says oh it didn't really start anywhere. I'm like 😒.
Dead ass whites always say that shit but their hair doesn't naturally do that and there's literally no sources for that shit
My hair forms dreads when i don't do anything with it and I'm not African so that's bullshit, sorry.
Ive been triggered
+Anime Fan. Yes Vikings and celts wore dreads too
Returned my ReMarcable foundation and Coconut Primer today 😬 #youtrieditmarc
👏🏾 that's dedication. I think that's awesome. The only way some of these brands are going to change is if it threatens their net worth.
Lmfaoo omg can we make this a trending topic on Twitter! #YouTrieditMarc
I just returned a Marc Jacobs blush & his lipstick set from the new holiday collection. I'm not here for his foolishness & won't partake in it!
That's great! The only way people will hear what you are saying is through their pockets.
I agree. Hit them where it hurts, their pocketbook. #YouTriedItMarc
This resonates with me so hard. My grandpa is Mexican/Native and worked so hard only to be refused a promotion due to having shoulder length hair.
Lovely topic by the way
I totally agree @Nelly!
@Jackie You spoke the truth.
*Watching from Belize! =)
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
please share your knowledge with your fellow white comrades. you all have to check one another to put an end to the ignorance
Sister I'm with you!
Unnecessary to say
BITCHHH I lost it @ "funny how you don't criticize woc for straightening their hair" holy shit this man needs to learn some shit.
"Nobody wants to give Africa credit." Exactly what I thought. All of these "new and cool" trends have always existed where they came from which is AFRICA. They keep taking from us and won't have the decency to give us credit. SMDH
To those missing the point, what we want is for those who call these "new trends" to know that nothing is new here. Braid your hair but don't tell me it's new 'cause it ain't.
Marc Jacobs could have showcased more diversity on his runway show since this seemed like a good opportunity for him to do that. The issue of diversity on the runway is real and has been brought up by well known models such as Iman and Naomi Campbell.
who the fuck cares??? everytime someone wears their hair in braids or dreads theyre not gonna walk around every second saying "oh btw im giving credit to africa!" like its not that serious lol
that's your opinion, dnt tell someone how to think, you look stupid hun!
Everybody wants to be back but nobody wants to be black. #Basically
That look at 1:50...So here for this I love it!
lol haha
YAS GIRLLLL TELL EMMMMM. agreeing with you ALL THE WAYYYYY!!!!!!!
Jackie, you're on point my love. THEY GON LEARN TODAY. Not up for debate. Love you & speak OUR truth ♡
I just love your realness Jackie I watch your channel all the time I may not comment alot on them but this video was so heads on :)
I wasn't allowed to wear my natural hair until high school. The school said my natural hair was distracting and i needed to straighten my hair or I wouldn't be allowed back in class. The fact that he said that disgusts me.
You're quickly becoming my favourite UA-camr
I love this so much. You ranted with so much respect and grace. Preach on girl!
Even if the reasons why using the dreads was wrong never crossed his mind, his response was totally immature and not professional.
Child I wore a bun in my first stage in the interview process, my second? Child I two strand twisted my hair n wore that mess...tamed but curly ...I got the job...I've been where my curls naturally... I use to be scared but now nope...✊🏾
Yes, honey! I refuse to hide my hair! F the haters! ✊
Thank you ❤
They kill me with thinking they're recreating hairstyles we been rocking since the beginning of time...and then renaming them! Chile bye!!!
Yes, yes, yes...a thousand times yes!
