Now, being hailed as the ultimate fourth-dimensional guitar hero, Devin feels confident in his complete victory. But the internet has seen through Devin's facade, and now sets out to expose Devin for what he really is...a NERD. A NERD.
These videos have made me respect Dev as both a person and a musician even more than I had before...A man who is truly an inspiration to us musicians. \m/
this man has such a profound respect and love for music. he's so real and honest and sees through all the bullshit that drives 16 year kids to hunger for stardom and american idol status. his rants are the best! i can relate to everything he's saying when i comes to being a musician and the painstaking, yet beautiful struggle to create great music
I love that he so open in this interview on the collective consciousness and the coming paradigm shift.. it shows also in his lyrics that hes definately a cutting edge musician.. !
It's good to see Devin is so humble and down to Earth. He's a man who can admit mistakes freely, rather than be inflated by his own sense of self-importance. Mistake in question: enjoying Muse.
This is basically what I've always thought about writing music. Be yourself and write music that you would want to hear. There will be other that enjoy it too. Being a sellout might get you further but it's an empty feeling.
He's among my biggest influences. He's opened me up to more clean stuff, and that you don't have to be technical to heavy to be good. Also in a different video he mentioned how a lot of solos and such are nothing more then just shapes and such. When i now look at this crazy fast bass scale that is in a Symphony X song, i see the shape and now its a lot less daunting. Kudos to Devin for opening my eyes.
Well I am sure that ALOT of people appreciate this guy for his music, I love the song, Away, just, out of this world, my favorite one :) BUY HIS MUSIC"""
I wonder how could I find people like these from this comment section in real life. I know that are millions of rockers out there but I can't seem to find anyone that has similar tastes. Where are these people hiding all day? LOL
I figure people are like right there yet no one shows true face when it comes to daily life, as opposed to say,,, youtube comments. and Im 5 fucking years late so hiii
Devin's right, and he's been doing what I was doing for years, doing what I do...Seemed like fighting a loosing battle, but I could not lie to myself and join an indie band...and one day it clicked and we found our niche. He's right, there's something out there for all walks of life and hell, I'm all for the geek shit! Who cares, u are what u are and I am me!
Did I hear him right at 3:20? Did he say Mew? I was actually disappointed that he wasn't playing when I was in Vancouver, but Mew played. I didn't know anything about them, but went because they seemed interesting. Maybe Devin was doing me a favor. Mew is great.
Just got home from seeing DTP live. An awesome show. Also, I wonder what Muse he was listening to. I know that this was around The Resistance time, but they're an act who have changed a lot over the years.
@p1neconeboy well, in a way you [we all] are in charge of such a thing. but we'd have to do it personally by finding the ways most applicable to us to support his art. and it's up to him to make those means available. and so far he's done a pretty good job and seems to realize that the brick and mortar CD industry is a failed system, so we'll see what comes from him and what ideas he takes from the public and his listening group. i'm going to check him out at the boston house of blues in january
@Vejo3 find the right means so that you're actually supporting him, and not a big record company. because there's a fair chance he sees extremely little money from record sales.
Geez Dev, give yourself a break. You've been making music that has had ppl scratching their heads wondering how you do it for years mate. PS I just paid for some of your music from your website because I need you!
@Vejo3 Im the same, im actually tempted to hunt his address down and post him the cash for everything ive downloaded, he's had to much influence on me musicially and as a person for me not pay him back.
Devin Townsend is now one of my new guitar heroes. He's talking about the heart, which is so important in music.
Incredable musician, artist and madman!Dev, Keep doing your thing, you´re an Inspritation to us all!

Dev blows 99.9% of the other garbage out of the water, yet he is so humble. A true and honest independant musician.
Extremely humble. He’s incredible

Dev,you're a great inspiration to me and to some other hundred musicians....
Devin's right, and he's been doing what I was doing for years, doing what I do...Seemed like fighting a loosing battle, but I could not lie to myself and join an indie band...and one day it clicked and we found our niche.

@Vejo3 Same here, He's one of the few I want to support so I actually buy his albums.
It must so easy to interview Devin, he just keeps on talking automatically :D
Muse rocks ;)
He's hilarious too. I've watched so many of his videos on the sole basis that he's funny.
Did I hear him right at 3:20? Did he say Mew? I was actually disappointed that he wasn't playing when I was in Vancouver, but Mew played. I didn't know anything about them, but went because they seemed interesting. Maybe Devin was doing me a favor. Mew is great.
Hahaha he says oot a lot! Oh Canada!
Just got home from seeing DTP live. An awesome show.

Devin Townsend just gets life, man.

Did he mention the band "Mew"?
jijst5 Muse I think
I'm not sure, though that would be a very logical "translation". Muse is awesome!
I think he definitely says Muse
@ZTOID his Ebay store which has 100% positive feedback. Search on ebay for hdrecords ;)
I thought he was gonna speak about the song From The Heart xD

Geez Dev, give yourself a break. You've been making music that has had ppl scratching their heads wondering how you do it for years mate. PS I just paid for some of your music from your website because I need you!

@Vejo3 Im the same, im actually tempted to hunt his address down and post him the cash for everything ive downloaded, he's had to much influence on me musicially and as a person for me not pay him back.
Are you serious? If I were in charge of Canada, I'd step down and instate Dev as my successor.
i'd totally go buy all of his shit if the closest record store wasn't 300 km away. i'd never hear any music if it wasnt for youtube and downloading
Two dislike,by who,Mao Ce and Stallin!?
@LadStrapping Fellow Norwegian, equally annoyed.
Is the guy asking the questions STANDING UP? quite annoying. You rock, Dev.
Amazingly i can't stand Muse, i agree their records production wise , sound amazing, but musically i just can't get in to them
Agreed; Muse seems geared to be as populist as possible, not as epic as possible..
@bill14231393 haha, sweet
@bill14231393 I got one for my significant other.
