Please be mindful that we will pause (we prefer to react in the moment & to avoid copyright strike), we will react with enthusiasm, smiles, tears, conversation, exchanged looks and air-instruments. I have tried to get into Devin Townsend for awhile now! I respect him but something about his music does fully work for me! Yet to pinpoint why as of yet! Thanks for the selection Mark! Ending was beautiful!❤

      Wow this is weird . . .
I can't see my original comment from THIS channel, so it may be "Shadowbanned" because apparently I'm soo evil 🤔.
      Trying again . . .
It took me actually awhile to get into them . . . like, more than a decade!
I wasn't into music like that, that was more "moody", and/or more about the atmosphere, not the soloing or guitar pyrotechnics. It was more about the music that fit his lyrics, that often are hard to decipher because he writes in an esoteric style.
I think THIS album and "Addicted" could be your gateway into more (2 of my FAVE albums), and his solo albums under just his name (Terra, and Ocean Machine may be a good start), but its that kind of band you don't want to _force_ yourself into. Again, it took me awhile because other bands slowly got me into bands of that esoteric, ethereal, moody yet melodic and proggy and/or heavier music.
Also! Checkout the bigger Productions Live of "Devin Townsend Project" here at Yt with vocalist Anneke van Giersbergen (may have the whole shows or by track), they are really tight and some of the songs are even better live (like "Deadhead"). The shows are a lot of fun. Devin is an interesting person, if you watch Rick Beato's interview with John Petrucci, Tosin Abasi & Devin, Devin is the one that doesn't say much, but when he does, watch how the 3 others react to what he says, especially how he goes about composing.
If I can, I'll post some Playlists to take a slow dive into this type of music from various artists that either take a dip into the ethereal, or that's their M.O., below as a reply. Or I'll just give you the Title of the Themed Playlists and its Parts. And please, anyone that is curious, check these bands out :).

Lets see if this stays up Eric . . .
      Look for (here at Yt):
      *Melodious Progulus*
      Part 3
      Part 10
      Part 13
      Part 14
      Part 15
(see description for previous and parts after on each playlist)
From mvunit3 or Pirates of the Underground
      And . . .
      *esoteric incarnations*
      Part 1
(see description for next parts in each playlist)
      From mvunit3
Some samples to possibly get you into this type of music :).

Great honest reaction! Devin said that he heard the Krishnas chanting this. Had no idea what they were saying (he’s not very religious), but got permission to add it to a song. He has such a wide palette. But I think I’ve pushed Devin enough. Time to consider other surprises!❤

Hi Guys , I am a massive Devin Townsend fan and have all his albums, but I cannot say hand on heart I love everything he does. There are tracks throughout his albums I would say are somewhat over indulgent, Some are too heavy for my liking. [ Well he does have the nickname 'Hevy Devy" ] but on every album there are tracks that hit the spot and on many, worth the price of the album alone....why ? ....Mp3 playback especially on u.t is terrible. It blends into noise. Unfortunately Mp3 compression destroys the track. Devin's engineering and mixing of his tracks is staggering, with a clarity only found on the physical format. I have heard tracks I did not like, only to get the physical album and ...boy what a difference ! Loved it ! but his music cannot be put into a box. He sings with a whisper or bellows like a demon. He can sing like an Opera singer or rock with the style of Meatloaf. His musical arrangements shift from the full on force of nature, to the gentle breeze of a warm summers evening. ...and live ... is an unforgettable experience. ... Watch "Deadhead" performed live at The Royal Albert Hall - Stunning, mesmerizing , heart pounding, raw emotion brings me to tears every time ! Devin singing then screaming about the pain of lost love can be brutal, and the chanting mid section is so hypnotic. The studio track is stunning but live OMG !! If people think he is too heavy [ and he can be ] ... Listen to the track "Terminal" from the album "Ki"... It's as gentle as you could possibly get, and so beautiful. So, yes, his albums are amazing, but I admit, as a massive fan ... I do skip tracks. Byee Jim X

Checkout his album "Ghost" (2011) by Devin Townsend Project . . . its basically a "New Age" album. Its great for relaxing, and falling asleep when having difficulty.

So this is what I have _come to_ enjoy about Devin . . .
He can hit you in the gut, or he can hit you with your mind, he can hit you in the heart, and/or all the above. This is music that really "reflects" the lyrical content. What he writes in words means something, and the "music" will always reflect that mood.
This is why many find it hard to get into him because I think most people are used to getting that POW factor, they want the guitar "pyrotechnics" to be off the chart, or a certain OOMPH in the music. He can be dynamic, in your face or just about "New Age" like, atmospheric and all about feel. Maybe because it's "Devin", people just automatically presume to be blasted by his vocals and in your face guitars . . . I've learned he's much more. For example, listen to "Mountain Top" by his other project *The Casualties of Cool* with his female counterpart, and its music that you won't expect at all (it's on your shelf as well).
I've learned to A. listen closer to the lyrics as to the _why_ the music is in this particular mood.
And B. take it in for what it is.
I gave a point of view to Eric Meredith why it all finally clicked for me after hearing a decade or 2 of his music before I finally "got it" (hopefully it stayed-up because it seems Yt doesn't like me much).
It's also about his "Wall of Sound", so everything is LUSH and rich.
Yes, you seemed to have enjoyed the 2 Marathons I included 1 track off of this album and "Addicted" (and hehe, Lexi said the same about both album covers when you received them and when they were included in marathons :D). Right off Lexi "got" the mood of the song and I could see Nick isn't in that mood/mindset at this moment. I think some have to be in that space to get into it. I mean, picture this as 1 of the closing songs in his show, and everyone waving their hands up in the air back and forth in unison :).
Though I'm anxious to request 2 tracks with a special "guest" vocalist, but I want to do it within a themed marathon, so I hope that comes back when N&L are ready🙂.
    - Thank you Mark, I really do hope MORE people show-up, fans and newcomers alike.
Btw - Steve Vai "discovered" Devin for 1 of his albums, that I actually can't get into. Devin then went on his own, I believe did 1 or 2 obscure solo albums, and then created "Strapping Young Lad" which is EXTREME! Its as if it were his "other life" :P. But it changed when he had his 1st child, his outlook on life changed. I suggest both of you watch the Rick Beato interview with John Petrucci, Tosin Abasi & Devin. Devin doesn't say much, but when he does . . . watch the 3 guys expressions 😊.
