Round the Island Race 2023 | 1100 boats passing Hurst Castle on their way out of the Solent

This popular annual race around the Isle of Wight, England, regularly attracts over 1000 boats on the 50 nautical mile course.
The video shows the yachts passing Hurst Castle and sailing close to the wind as they head for the narrow channel between the Needles Lighthouse and The Shingles, a long bank of pebbles of varying drying height. The race was first held in 1931 and today is a permanent fixture on many sailor's calendars.
Three weeks after this race - on 22nd July - the 50th edition of the Fastnet Race will take place with another spectacular flotilla set to head west from Cowes.
