Round the Island Race 2022 | Around 1000 yachts passing Hurst Castle

This hugely popular race around the Isle of Wight, England, this year saw 1117 entries. The video shows the yachts passing Hurst Castle with a fairly strong wind from the south west to contend with.
A strong westerly current was flowing and skippers would not want to be carried over parts of The Shingles, a long finger of pebbles of variable depth/drying height which stretches along the west side of the ship channel from the far side of the N E Shingles buoy seen in the video down to, and beyond, the Needles.
With many retirements and a few disqualifications, 914 yachts completed the course before the limit time of 10.30pm.

Well done Rod great video. Shame we didn't feature, as we were very distinctive, 2 on board a sprayhood insitu and having brunch just before we rounded the Needles.
