The last girl I talked with daily, with moderate flirting, sort of mocked me for simply liking video games and having them as a hobby. Like, she just straight up told me: "Oh, don't tell me you like video games too..." when I told her I was working on a video game together with a friend (yeah, I didn't even mention playing video games, I said I was making one). She said it with a full on "Ugh, what's wrong with you?" way of saying. I nope'd right the fuck out of it and stopped talking to her. No thanks, I like to keep my hobbies and personality in a relationship.
A person should love you for who you are. Some compromises might be necessary for one or both of you, but to bash on what you love to do? Unacceptable, good call.
I'm 33, married, 2 kids under 3, gamer. Married for 8 years. As long as I'm there for my kids, for her and take care of my family she doesnt care what my hobby is. Vice versa. She respects games though she doesnt play them. Kids take away game time more than marriage. But it's worth it. Generally gaming happens late at night. The only way gaming should be an issue in relationships is if it inhibits responsibility and growth. If it doesn't then no one should have a problem with it. My wife is as excited as me to raise both my daughter and son with an interest in gaming. It's what our generation does.
I'm a dj and the last girl girl dated for like a year gave me an ultimatum and I told her to hit the road. NEVER give up things you love for people. Girls come and go but you can always turn on street fighter.
I had 3 boyfriends in my life 2 of them never touched a game before and the other guys I've met only played casually so I was often criticized for wanting to spend the weekend playing so eventually I just said fuck it, I work and study the whole week if I can't enjoy the only distraction I trully love ever since I was a kid it's because we simple don't belong, then one day I was in the library and this shy/awkward dude asked if I could lend him a hand in his essay then one day he walked on me while I was waiting for a class to start and he noticed that I was watching a Zelda speedrun and asked what games I like.....it's been 4 years we are together now.
Holy Shit max, really? You had a phobia of dogs? That's so ironic because of how important Benny has become to the channel and your image as a person. You think of Maximilian and you think of his tiny little dog, and to think that you once were scared of them.
Same with me: I had a aunt who loves huge dogs and I was small at the time. Dogs of THAT nature have a bad habit of jumping since they love to rough-housing their human companions. The problem is that this tends to hurt smaller animals and children who are not strong enough to push these small animals off when this occurs. Granted, I did run into feral dogs before, but that was few and far between.
Yusuke Urameshi same. I'm 30 and never had a girlfriend or approached a girl. Fucked up thing is I don't even play much video games nowadays, I work full time and going to school on a full time workload as well, looking back I wasted the past four years trying to get into the real life scene but now I realized it doesn't matter, an ugly fuck like me will never get chicks. I'm gonna get a high end pc and a ps4 and do what makes me happy and where I belong
Dated a girl once who was fine with me playing video games... at first. She eventually developed this distaste for me playing video games. Specifically one I was playing a lot at the time, she felt like I wasn't giving her enough attention even though I would stay up on a school night, talking to her over the phone until 5am, leaving me with 3 hours of sleep. I asked her what she wanted to do, like what can I do to fix things because I wanted it to work because she was a nice individual but didn't mean she couldnt be unbearable at times. She told me to stop playing the game all together and you could probably guess what happened afterwards. She left me for another guy because I kept playing that certain game. She thought I just liked video games, no no no, I have a passion for video games. Its what I do, its what I love doing, I've been playing video games before I was even a year old (I didnt know what I was doing but I was still playing the game with my brother). When I'm hooked on a game, you cant just tell me to stop playing it cold turkey style. I accepted her obsessions and the things she liked to do but I guess she couldn't do the same for me. Pity, but ever since then its just left a bad taste in my mouth and nowadays Im perfectly content on being single.
The Superior Spider-Mew 4 Months later. She probably can't find a guy, anyway I find my self not having a girl friend. I don't want to control myself to her ALL the time.
The Superior Spider-Mew I've had somewhat a similar experience except the girl didn't tell me anything she just flat out text me that's she's breaking up with me cause she thought I loved video games more then her
REAL TALK: Me and my ex bf were into video games and similar interests. I didn't have issues with him playing them the issues I had was that he would straight up ditch me to play video games with his friends, not me and not with his son. I didn't get along with his friends because their whole attitude was that my ex bf was a father second when his son was suppose to be first. They would help pay for video games and anime cons but couldn't help with diapers when we really needed it or a bill. So I dumped him after 5 years. The thing is you have to figure out what to balance but if you have kids involved or married that comes first. Your responsibilities come first.
Sorry to hear that your ex was unable to prioritize what should be important things in his life. People don't realize how much time taking care of a child can be and you really have to give up a huge chunk of your time to it. I think a lot of people have the trouble transitioning from the single carefree lifestyle to the parental lifestyle. Especially if they have kids while young. The brain is just not mature enough to handle it. Some are but others have a tough time. After having a kid, the only time I played any video games was when he was sleeping.
Makes sense. From my experience I had one girlfriend who was resistant to my hobbies not because i had an unhealthy relationship with them (she knew about them from the beginning) but because she was trying to change something about our relationship because we just weren't right for each other and she didn't know how to fix it. Neither did i.
I used to say "If you find a girl that's worthy abandon all your dreams to stay with her, don't marry her right away. Make sure she feels the same about you, so then you can engage on the relationship". Love is about making the other happy above all else, and that's true for both sides. It's not good to give your heart to a person which the priority is not make you happy, the same goes about you, don't marry if you are not able to abandon everything for her sake. The good news is that two people who love each other will not have to abandon anything important, because your lover will want you to be happy, and if playing games make you happy, she will accept it. But make sure that your hobby, your job or individual aspirations is NOT your priority. Your priority is your family. Of course, it's not so simple, people are hard to understand and to deal with, but that's a path we all have to be able to deal with, otherwise our relationships will destined to ruin. Obviously, this does not applies for causal relationships. Since I married my first girlfriend, back in my 20s, I don't have any experience with this at all.
i really envy you man ! you got lucky to find that girl ! i hope you guys be together for ever she is really valuable keep her safe. have a great day everyone.
Just a tidbit as a Gamer Girl: My first boyfriend HATED video games and I was really surprised. He would degrade me constantly as a loser and such which ultimately we broke up. My current boyfriend and I game together. We got together through a similar interest in FFXI. (He was way more dedicated though playing on JPN servers and living by their times. (constantly staying up even though we were EST) and going as far as having trouble in school because of it. Even kicked out at one point.) But he found a job where he was able to flourish and cut back on the gaming. We stopped FFXI and instead, later on, went for a game type which we could play but take breaks from so it wasn't excessive like last time. So things like L4D/L4D2 AND OVERWATCH became a major source of awesome. (We gamed next to each other.) And IF when we needed a break/fought (he was a PC > all) so I would actively give up that room to him and I would play upstairs on my consoles/switch. - Anyhow, I just wanted to throw this out here because I too found that when you find someone who shares your love of gaming that it's the best thing in the world. We've been together for about 6 years now. I'm so happy! So if anyone out there is in* a bad relationship where the girl or guy gives you shit for the things you love. NUH UH it's not worth it - there's always going to be someone else. FYI after I broke up with my boyfriend it took about 3 years to find love again and worth the wait it was.
Sir you have attacked my feels with an Hyper Combo of Love! May God bless your business! Sir you are blessed beyond comprehension and I pray God continue to shine in your life, marriage and existence. May all your matches never have lag, may you never deal with a rage quitter ever in your existence. Damn It...You're my hero!!! *crying manly tears of manliness*
I agree with everything you say, and just one more thing to add. The most important aspect of any relationship with anyone, is to make sure you will grow together. Dont get mad at flaws or annoying habits, and work on them together and compromise. You don't need a perfect match, as in you both are 2 in the same. Opposites attract and differences become equal in the end because you learn to grow and love those differences and similarities. You could honestly make any pair of two work if you just understand these concepts and work them out.
I've been married for 16 years and it's an ever changing situation that you constantly have to adapt to. Things may be ok until a new variable is thrown in, say a child, and you have to build a completely new understanding from the ground up.
I'm 24 still live with my parents don't know how to drive and I haven't gone to college or started working yet. I'm terrified to grow up and most of my relationships have been long distance... I'm doing my best to change starting with driving then work I don't think I'll find a girl for me but, ill try. I want to make my family proud
You are kinda like me, only 4 (5, going by the date you posted this) years older. One thing I can say for sure is that you should do things because they make YOU happy, not because it's what your family/friends/society expects from you. If you like videogames, play videogames. If you like cosplay, go cosplay at a convention. If you enjoy J-POP, listen to it. So long as you're not hurting anyone, there's no reason to stop doing it. As for getting a girl, I can safely tell you that things aren't as bleak as you make them out to be. Starting a relationship with a girl that shares your interests and is a good person is very hard, no denying it. But if you know what you're doing and put the effort into it, you WILL make it. My advice would be to find something you REALLY ENJOY (videogames, playing an instrument, drawing) and go to as many social events related to that activity. You're gonna have fun AND you're bound to find people that enjoy the same things you like. Your priority should be to make friends first. Not only will you meet people that you can have fun with, but you'll also grow more confident. And by the time you find a girl that catches your eye, you'll be ready. Sorry for replying to such an old comment, but I felt that I really needed to say it out loud. Good luck and have a nice day. :)
Wow I'm surprised at the replies no ones making fun of u, its nice to see that. Well at least you're thinking positive which is a start, but don't let fears hold u back enjoy ur life cuz it's too short anything u wanna do just go for it, learn from mistakes as u grow and become wiser with what u learn one day u will be telling some one else like u not to be scared just go for it
i imagine how this is how my relationship is going to be like, because i've been into video games and my significant other likes them too!! and he finds interest when i talk about like, DMC3 or Katamari. Its really great to have someone who shares something that you like too, and its even more great that they support you. Shine on, Max, you really are a great dood.
I can relate to this so much. I gave up FFXI for my family. It just requires time and commitment I don't have as a family man. My wife isn't a gamer but was always understanding of my love for it. But over time it started to lose importance. Which is what lead me back to fighting games. Pickup and play vs timesink.
Max, these stories are great to hear, really. I totally feel like that with my gf, although I'm not thinking about marriage just yet is great to be able to hear someone that went to something similar. Keep 'em coming, arcade stories are just awesome.
Real talk about being busy and productive. You talk about it like it's so normal, to the point where you've had legit panic attacks from how much work you take on. I'm afraid of my own laziness, i want to make music consistently and have part time jobs and do well in school but it's really hard for me to remember why/how much/what I want after coming home from school, or even on uneventful weekends, to get started on projects or practices and stuff.
PurpleFreezer In that situation I feel it helps to have someone you love, care for and respect constantly remind you and be on your ass to do what you need to do.
My old lady used to have a problem with me playing games until we will sat down really talk about it I told her that I work hard pay the bills attend to your needs you have things you like such as make up shoes and etc and instead criticising you about it I even learn about your favorite make and shoes just to meet you halfway the more I spoke the she understood and I listen to her thoughts about it and I understood also but long story short we all need something that is therapeutic keeps stress away.
Agree with Max and the previous post. Sacrifice can breed resentment. But at the same time you put the other person's needs above yours and hopefully they do the same. My wife isn't a gamer but takes an interest. The best times are when she has fun gaming or when I actually enjoy that movie based on a Jane Austin novel.
Max, you couldn't have time this better. Honestly. My girlfriend is about to move in within a few days, aand this is exactly what I have been thinking about, she doesn't play games quite like I do, but its good to know this may just save the relationship one day. Also, a dog ate my face off when I was 2-3 as well. Never got the phobia though. Keep up the amazing content max!
I've been meaning to watch this for a while; it has sat in my web browser favorites for a long time. I am also a married gamer. Being married actually exposed my wife to a lot of games. She plays CoD with me frequently, and she loves Portal and Mass Effect. She doesn't really like games as much as I do, but having a wife that shares my favorite interest is such an amazing thing to have in a relationship.
The luck of being with someone who loves what you do as well Example: Amazing couple, learns they share a LOT more than what they thought they did, now it's an EVEN better couple, & more fun
Games before Dames! Seriously, I've met some condescending females who scoff at my hobbies and interests yet act like their very boring existence is superior. Case in point, liked a girl at work who would downplay any activities I liked in favor of her own. One time I was telling her about how I helped make art for a homebrew NES game and was enjoying doing it. She asked how much money I was getting for it. I told her that I was getting no money, just a copy of the game. I was doing it for the fun and experience (how often can you help make an NES game?). She turned away with a condescending look on her face. I realized that she wasn't the type for me at that moment. Seriously, why would any man put up with a girl with that attitude? Fun fact, she is now married and I feel somewhat sorry for the guy. Somewhat. Seriously, the last thing I want is to let someone who doesn't believe in me in my life. I'd rather be alone that be with someone who makes me feel second-rate and miserable. I hope the rest of you have that same attitude. Don't get a girlfriend/get married just because you are worried about what people will think. Worry about your happiness first. Find the woman who completes you or keep looking. You only have one life, so don't poison your soul with a bad woman....
I loved hearing about all of this because I've often wondered how you two have become so connected with one another. This only goes to show that no one should have to change themselves for others. Anyone can find the right person for them just by being themselves and keep doing the things they love to do. Accepting one another and the things you two like to do is what really brings couples together. This is why I love being me :] So thanks a lot for this video, Max. It really opened my eyes.
I couldn't agree more with a lot of what you said here. Relationships, marriage, those are big steps in your life and while those do require sacrifice and compromise, it shouldn't cost happiness. My wife is my absolute best friend and partner. Best part is that she forces me to do things for myself. It was her idea that I buy an Xbox. And, best part, she plays it with me. She is a damn savant at fighting games and we just had a very successful Diablo 3 campaign. It's all about finding the right person for you. Awesome video as always, Max!
Having a woman who wants you to stop playing video games would be like having a woman telling an artist not to paint. Both are a passion and a commitment. If the woman doesn't like that, tell her to date a visual novel man. If she doesn't know what visual novels are, ask her if she's ever heard of Google.
i love this. i hope when i finally get to share my life with that special someone that she'll love many of the same things i do and there will be that friendship as well as a boyfrien/girlfriend and hopefully eventually marriage relationship
Just caught wind of this video on your channel and it is a great story to listen to. I just recently got married to my girlfriend of 7 years and she has supported my habits. She isn't the typical non-gamer as she has experiences in the past with her brother like ninja Gaiden and dkc. She is a pokemon and anime fanatic so we have that together and she supports my gaming as well. I used to run a podcast that she would help me with comments and suggestions weekly and she loves hearing my stories of interest and hype, like with Smash bros coming soon. We have our individual loves and do not degrade or demean them with each other. Continuous love and support of what matters to each other is wonderful and healthy and it's just a great feeling.
Bro, I loved this video, it really hit close to home for me. I also have a wife that is into video games and anime, aka nerdy stuff. She may not be into all the games I like, but she loves to sit in bed and watch me play. Every Saturday she comes with me to the Microsoft store for the Killer Instinct tournaments they hold, she's even coming with me when I compete in CEO. I actually met her over Xbox live. She lives in Florida I moved from Massachusetts to be with her. Anyway, I know you had planned to go, I hope to see you there! Later dood.
ItzSpammy I know this is super old, but what he meant is that if you were *payed* for playing your wife wouldn't complain and you would be providing for the family.
i had a girlfriend but i had to break up with her. she seemed like a nice girl. even though she would hit me, yell at my parents, not work, not want to do anything, i loved her. but then we played videogames and she picked morrigan, doom and phoenix. im glad i realized soon.
I can totally verify Max's authenticity about relationships. Shared interests are important, but shared needs, or recognition and respect of individual needs are VITAL. I had a rough breakup after a five year relationship--we were talking about marriage, planning our future together, but when it came down to basic agreements about needs, we clashed, and so we could never help each other out. It was an anxiety nightmare, constantly fearing the other's judgement. GJ Max, treat your wife well.
That was a great story, Max. I'm glad to hear you and Jessica are in a healthy relationship where the two of you share interests and hobbies that make your love even stronger. ^_^
Thats how it felt with my motorcycle, I didn't care for it anymore. We always play games and always have fun together and be best friends and have that purity of love with your wife
Subscribed. SACRED. WORDS. Good job man, the ending was so full of truth, and I'm glad finally someone acknowledges the fact that a true, long-lasting relationship cannot start unless your partner is either a really close friend or your best friend :)
some women just need to chill out...I have a feeling that sometimes video games are looked down upon, like you are not mature enough to succeed in life....total BS Anyone can succeed in life...I mean look at Some famous game developers! They are raking in cash while the haters are working 9-5
You know what max, your story has truly touched my heart. I hope that i too can find someone that shares my passions and compatibility like u have already.
Old video but great topic to touch on Max. Love your content man, i'll watch it until my lungs give out one day! Oh btw my wife love's FF14 online & completely loves the fact that I enjoy my fighting games & FF14 with her! (Also when I was young, had my head torn apart by a German Shepard) Take care Max! Looking forward to some more content & streams!
That was awesome. I also believe it's very important for a couple to have friendship as part of their relationship. Have a merry Christmas to you and your family.
Hell yeah man, having that wide ground of mutual interest is super important. My gf and I have been together for 3 years and counting, and though we don't share every interest (I'm a big Gundam fan, she loves Harvest Moon), the fact that we do have as much in common as we do means that we can share those experiences together, and we're both still willing to talk about and listen to each others' individual interests. Plus we play RPGs together, alternating who's playing and both commentating.
That Ken thumbnail, just all the daws :3 Thanks dood for the talk, I agree that its nice to have a friend before a significant other. . . . im so lonely ;-;
That's absolutely beautiful, man. Just how I'd think such a relationship should be. And good taste in games, dude; XI was worth some time. Not one's whole life, but a good bit of time, man. I know a married couple who play together still - they have memories together in Vana'diel that just sounds.. priceless. Anyway. Great stuff, man.
Well said Max! I'll be celebrating my one year anni with my gf and we are both 30 years old. She has never given me any grief for playing so many video games and she was even open minded enough to try Catherine; she loved it.
I can somewhat relate to what you're talking about, Max. I have a friend who's married, both have an interest in VIDEOGAMES and anime. However, their relationship doesn't seem as stable anymore. I plan on showing them this video because you brought up some points that, I believe, they need to hear. Thanks again for giving us the Max "behind the camera" and letting everyone know that despite what people see on screen, you're just a "dood". Talking about these things help people relate.
This completely describes my relationship. My fiance and I play fighting games against each other all the time, and she is HYPER competative. Marvel, Soul Caliber, Street Fighter, Tekken... We're evenly matched at everything and it's the greatest thing ever. She doesn't like being evenly matched though. If her victory ratio isn't 70%, she gets all pouty. Having a relationship with your best friend truly is the greatest thing you could ever have. Kudos to ya Max. It was nice hearing this.
Max I think you hit the nail on the head - you have to date somebody who can also be your best friend. Somebody who not only accepts but embraces who you are, the way you are. Too many people try to draw a line between people they consider "good friends" and people who are "datable" and all the results in is dating somebody you aren't truly compatible with. If you have to change somebody before you love them - you don't really love them, you love what you think you've made.
The biggest problem that someone who has been single for a long time has is they feel as though they have to give up a lot of video game time once they get into their relationship. That feeling is true, but it is only because being single for so long you filled your entire day with your hobbies you do alone and when sharing your life with someone else you have to add them into your daily "schedule". You do have to make some significant effort to make time for your relationship, otherwise you're just living your normal single life while saying you're in a relationship. I feel like that's the reason many gamers end up finding other gamers to be in a relationship with so they can more easily blend their current life in with their partner, but even then it still takes effort and sacrifice.
If you think having a relationship or getting married puts a halt to your video gaming, get ready to really put the stop to it once you have kids. My wife doesn't like video games unfortunately and after having a kid, I really had to pick and choose how to divide up my time. I also don't want to play video games in front of my kid because when he gets older, I'm sure he'll like video games no matter what. I just want to hold off on exposing him to it for as long as possible. I want him to have other interests. It would definitely be cool to play Street Fighter with him one day. As much as I like video games, after becoming a parent, I don't want my kids to spend all their time playing video games. Funny how life changes you.
Megamibunny He'll be exposed to it eventually whether I like it or not. Video games can be a huge time suck, especially for kids. Like I said, I want him to develop other interests. What really irks me is seeing adults giving their kids a game and have that be some sort of baby sitter. And it's even worse if it's some game that the kid is obviously not mature enough to be playing. But that's another subject all together.
imfuraisoth well I'm no parent so I can't Judge you on how you choose to raise a child, but I can give advice about video games, if your kid is at least given the chance to see video games and you admit you play video games, you have a common interest, something both of you can do father and child moments, something every parent would love to have.
Dude, I come from a family where my mom hates video games and my father loves them. Hell,my father brought me into fighters when I was 7 with virtua fighter. I'm 18 now. I didn't have many games growing up partly because I was poor and also because I think my father believed in moderation. The big idea here is that, expose your son to gaming. You probably will eventually. Never forget moderation though. That's the most important thing. Show them the joys of gaming but enough that they enjoy it but it doesn't encompass all of their interests.
I love this story it gave me a reality check if I had a relationship with a girlfriend/ future waifu thanks for sharing this video back in 2013 @Maximilian dood
that's a real good advice to those that are dating or planning on getting "Sharing Interest" getting along with your girlfriend and her liking the things you like me and my girlfriend are into the same thing and are open to the likings of each other
Max, thanks man. I really needed to hear this. makes me feel a little better and less depressed knowing i made the right decision to leave my gf of 3 years. She completely changed from the person i loved and it made me depressed. And before, she said how i need to grow up and do something with my life and i game too much(i dont). So taking the firefighter job test, finally getting my license, and getting on the dean's list in college is apparently not doing anything with your life.
Here's a marriage still waiting to happen, Ryu and Sakura. I mean she's 23 now and Ryu is barley 30 or 31. Despite seeming not to age, she's much more mature than Ibuki and R. Mika and after seeing Ryu in the first World Warrior Tournament in Street Fighter 1, she's been adopting more and more of his philosophy in her life. In fact if you pay attention, she's a straight A student in the Alpha games and gets progressively more and more mature with each game. Hell Ken was more arrogant than her when he was around her age in Street Fighter V. In fact I bet the reason she isn't in Street Fighter V right now is because they're debating whether or not to keep her the eternal schoolgirl, or make her a college major. It's even been said in the game's lore that with proper training, she could be just as, if not more powerful than Ryu. Besides there's nothing they wouldn't have in common. Both live to fight while having a kind and gentle nature, and both are wanderers. Not to mention Sakura was one of the main reasons Ryu was even able to control the Satsui No Hado at all. I'd say Chun would be a better fit because she's closer to Ryu's age, but she doesn't share the same passion for fighting he does.
Me and my wife both have hobbies we love. I play videogames and run a youtube channel on it, and she loves kpop and runs an instagram community on it. We sometimes also play some games together or watch kdramas together, but the better part is that we treat each other passions with respect and also share a bit on them. Most relationships don't let you keep hobbies because one of the two people's only passion is getting attentiom from the other part. So here's my advice for a healthy relationship: be with peole who also has a hobby. Even if it doesn't match yours. You may even help them find one with one simple question: what is it that you really like to do that doesn't depend on other people?
This video's topic is really important. If we actually feeling lonely and want to be in a relationship we can't be selfish enough in wanting a person into our life and simply maintain our routine without sacrifice. I'm also married with a girl that is ok with me playing games as long I don't prioritize that over what's important that is my family. And now she is also my partner in animation and manga making. 😊 Sacrifice and balance is really important in a happy relationship.
Yeah this really helped me out I mean I'm competitive with Marvel and Street Fighter and I've been finding it hard to manage my Gamer life and my Boyfriend life but listening to ***** talk about his experience its helping me.
Played FFXI for 6+ years on the Quetz server and loved every minute of it. Just hearing some of the songs from the game can bring back so many memories and just have me grinning from ear to ear for the rest of the day :)
Nothing is perfect in life, especially marriages. But as I saw in the video, Max and his wife have found a lot of common ground with activities, things they like and doing stuff together. Max, always value all that time spent with Jessica. You've achieved what so many guys want to get when it comes to marriages and we're happy for ya. We really are. Now then, if you plan on bringing a Max Jr into the household... Well, best of luck to you!
Ex-linkshell leader and PLD main as well. Ironically also married to a Jessica. Enjoyed the video Max, had a nice awww moment watching this with her. Progression of events even eerily matched up since when we met I worked at funco-land and anime was the first interest we had in common. I'm going to refer to you as my west coast clone from now on. lol. Met a decade ago, we've been married 3 years. Best of wishes to you guys, glad you realize how fortunate you are.
Great commentary. I love how much you emphasized the value and importance of her being your best friend. I think that's probably the single most important criteria for a relationship. A lot of people don't get that though.
sounds to me like you became great friends WAAAAAAY before a relationship or marriage was on the cards. You're a lucky guy to have that kind of situation, because most are lucky to even keep the friendship going
Max, I don't really leave comments but I have been a fan of this channel for quite a while. I just had to leave a comment because the story of you and your wife sounds a lot like me and my wife. When we started dating I was nervous because I had pervious relationships that went south due to my hobby of choice, but my wife and I bonded over it. Good on you Max for strait talk, which is the most important part of any relationship similar likes and not wanting to change one another.
Keeping your eyes open. I game every day and my wife wouldn't change that for anything, because to change that would be to change who I am. And I met her completely by chance when visiting a mutual friend and we spoke about how awesome Crash Bandicoot and Pandemonium were back in the day. PS1 gaming got me the love of my life. When you meet the right girl you'll know, the trick is to not settle for less. Go out with other girls, make those mistakes, live life. But don't SETTLE, for less.
Completely awesome video max, I absolutely love all your vlog style videos, you have such a great perspective. As a fellow FF11 addict, it would be awesome to have a video just about your experiences with the game. FF11 is a game that it is almost impossible not to make great memories in. I have so many great friends that I been gaming together for nearly a decade because of FF11. So many crazy memories and such, I would love to hear your experience with the game.
nice max, that talk was great and really interesting to listen to. also i just stood up and applauded for that last strider xfactor - that was BEAUTIFUL. very well done sir
You were bit by a Black Widow, had your face bit off by a dog, and you've had panic attacks? Geez, you can't catch a break, can you Max? Seriously though, I loved this video. It reminds me of a good relationship I had with another gamer. We were both into fighting games, and while we really loved playing our games, we also balanced it out spending time together. It definitely strengthened the relationship, and one of the most fun times in my life. You're a lucky man, Max.
Hahaha I started cracking up when you said your wife likes when you use characters in games that look like you x) pretty cool man, I hope you guys live a long happy life together as a married couple:)
Good for you.
A person should love you for who you are. Some compromises might be necessary for one or both of you, but to bash on what you love to do? Unacceptable, good call.
+JoroJojoro She wanted to say "whats wrong with you, you should be handing over your time and cash to me to buy shoes"
+JoroJojoro That last sentence is pure gold, sir.
@JoroJojoro: Then she's just not your match. Consider this: would you like to go out with someone this shallow and bigoted?
You can't have a boyfriend or a girlfriend, without the friend part.
True
I'm a dj and the last girl girl dated for like a year gave me an ultimatum and I told her to hit the road. NEVER give up things you love for people. Girls come and go but you can always turn on street fighter.
SEX IS TEMPORARY GAMING IS FOREVER
@@blout4337true
Sunny Burrito Awwwwww that's so cute!!! I'm still waiting for someone who holds a strong hobby with vidya gaems as well.
Righteous!✊
Girls do that?
And 4 years later, max and jessica are still very happy because jessica will never get tired of scaring the hell out of max when hes playing games
spoiler alert, they are still going strong...
and she is still scaring the hell out of him when he play horror games...
@@marcosdheleno they are now expecting thier first kid in August of 2020.

You still have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA what happens behind closed doors. We can always wish them well
Holy Shit max, really? You had a phobia of dogs? That's so ironic because of how important Benny has become to the channel and your image as a person. You think of Maximilian and you think of his tiny little dog, and to think that you once were scared of them.
wow that crazy
Well, Benny's not a dog.
He's a god beast.
Damon Katumaru I used to be terrorfied of big dogs for that reason. But now i'm a 6'6 222 pound man and i love wrestling huge hounds. XD
I can't relate to this, women find me repulsive.
You have Keiko you little bitch. Fuck outta here.

Idk, I think you seem pretty cool :D
men, there is always a women or men for every women or men
Yusuke Urameshi same.
I bet this video helped lots of people. Thanks for sharing that stuff max.
Respect to you bro, dont quit your passion just because someone else has a problem with it.
The Superior Spider-Mew 4 Months later. She probably can't find a guy, anyway I find my self not having a girl friend. I don't want to control myself to her ALL the time.
+The Superior Spider-Mew spidermew sounds familiar that game you mentioned wouldnt happen to be mugen would it?
The Superior Spider-Mew
yeah that game isnt that good in hindsight and yeah im a huge spider-man fan and i do get the reference lol
Megamibunny there's three sides to every story
Why would anyone want to pay for diapers lol
Blanka stole my wife's heart and she stole my SF
I miss the Real Talk series. it's amazing.
this video always gives me the feels.
i really envy you man !
you got lucky to find that girl !
i hope you guys be together for ever
she is really valuable keep her safe.
have a great day everyone.
Nah
I love that my wife loves video games, but I hate not being able to play my xbox 360. By the time I get to it, she's already there.
I met once a couple's house where each got their own x360. lol
Arkl1te That is the only way to have a relationship.
*maintain.. yes :/
Finding a significant other who also becomes your best friend is an incredible feeling and I totally get what Max is saying here.
Have to admit. That part with JJ liking it when you play characters that look like you put a smile on my face. I don't smile much.
I've been married for 16 years and it's an ever changing situation that you constantly have to adapt to. Things may be ok until a new variable is thrown in, say a child, and you have to build a completely new understanding from the ground up.
Max...you and Jess are amazing. I shed a tear hearing this.
Lord of Hilarity wow
So how are you doing today?
I hope the best for ya, man. Don't let your fears hold you back.
Thanks for sharing about your relationship.
I can relate to this so much. I gave up FFXI for my family. It just requires time and commitment I don't have as a family man. My wife isn't a gamer but was always understanding of my love for it. But over time it started to lose importance. Which is what lead me back to fighting games. Pickup and play vs timesink.
Hey, Max, how does it feel to look back and genuinely grateful for what happened?
Max, these stories are great to hear, really. I totally feel like that with my gf, although I'm not thinking about marriage just yet is great to be able to hear someone that went to something similar.
Keep 'em coming, arcade stories are just awesome.
I m lucky my girlfriend is willing to play videogames with me when we will settle down, shame She loves blanka...:(
But... how?
+crookfane because she likes videogames and especially street fighter, she still can t play properly though, gotta teach her
what's wrong with blanka
Annoying gimmick character
Well blanka is my favorite character in street fighter it seems a lot of people can't handle the thunder
PurpleFreezer
In that situation I feel it helps to have someone you love, care for and respect constantly remind you and be on your ass to do what you need to do.
The luck of being with someone who loves what you do as well
Example: Amazing couple, learns they share a LOT more than what they thought they did, now it's an EVEN better couple, & more fun
I totally imagine Ken talking every time I watch this.
I'm gonna imagine it's Siegfried.
I imagine Nicolas Cage with long hair.
You only have one life, so don't poison your soul with a bad woman....
mllarson seriously though , why would you make art for free?
Fuck those females lmao!
This is why I love being me :]
So thanks a lot for this video, Max. It really opened my eyes.
Awww...this video was so sweet. I'm envious of the relationship that you 2 have. I shall take your words of wisdom to heart max!
Later dood.
see now if you got played for playing video games then she would not complain lol and you would be providing for your family.
Trey SP ?
ItzSpammy I know this is super old, but what he meant is that if you were *payed* for playing your wife wouldn't complain and you would be providing for the family.
i had a girlfriend but i had to break up with her. she seemed like a nice girl. even though she would hit me, yell at my parents, not work, not want to do anything, i loved her. but then we played videogames and she picked morrigan, doom and phoenix. im glad i realized soon.
My life and marriage are similar and I completely agree. Thanks for sharing man.
We always play games and always have fun together and be best friends and have that purity of love with your wife
thank you for sharing these event from your life with us
they really hit home
Subscribed. SACRED. WORDS. Good job man, the ending was so full of truth, and I'm glad finally someone acknowledges the fact that a true, long-lasting relationship cannot start unless your partner is either a really close friend or your best friend :)
some women just need to chill out...I have a feeling that sometimes video games are looked down upon, like you are not mature enough to succeed in life....total BS
Anyone can succeed in life...I mean look at Some famous game developers!
Thanks for sharing Max. You just helped me out a ton!
That Ken thumbnail, just all the daws :3
Thanks dood for the talk, I agree that its nice to have a friend before a significant other.
. . . im so lonely ;-;
Thanks for sharing your life Max. Bro, you are a super cool guy
Max? Afraid of dogs? The owner of the dog of hype? I guess you really do learn something new everyday...
KIDNAPPED @ 4:42 was sick. Also like that Tron/She-Hulk incoming set up.
Why do you want to avoid exposing it to him? Just curious because I have a kid myself.
But that's another subject all together.
imfuraisoth well I'm no parent so I can't Judge you on how you choose to raise a child, but I can give advice about video games,
if your kid is at least given the chance to see video games and you admit you play video games, you have a common interest, something both of you can do father and child moments, something every parent would love to have.
I learned to balance parenting and gaming. If I can do it, so can anyone.
I love this story it gave me a reality check if I had a relationship with a girlfriend/ future waifu thanks for sharing this video back in 2013 @Maximilian dood
that's a real good advice to those that are dating or planning on getting "Sharing Interest" getting along with your girlfriend and her liking the things you like me and my girlfriend are into the same thing and are open to the likings of each other
EB Games still going strong in Australia.
A long haired, older and more mature Sakura in SF5?
Please stop. You'll make me jizz my pants...
I prefer Chun li and Guile
Guile is married though. Lol
to ken's sister in law at that
Skankerman Studios he’s 50 actually
Nice talk Max, the more I hear these, the more respect I have for you.
Sacrifice and balance is really important in a happy relationship.
Yeah this really helped me out I mean I'm competitive with Marvel and Street Fighter and I've been finding it hard to manage my Gamer life and my Boyfriend life but listening to ***** talk about his experience its helping me.
Thank you for the insight into your life, dude. It helps to know more of who you are as a person to like you more as a person. Thanks, Max.
I agree having someone that really understands you is the best feeling
Ex-linkshell leader and PLD main as well. Ironically also married to a Jessica. Enjoyed the video Max, had a nice awww moment watching this with her. Progression of events even eerily matched up since when we met I worked at funco-land and anime was the first interest we had in common. I'm going to refer to you as my west coast clone from now on. lol. Met a decade ago, we've been married 3 years. Best of wishes to you guys, glad you realize how fortunate you are.
Great real life example we as gamers need council. Thanks for sharing personal experience.
Wow. I'm really loving these REAL TALK videos. Keep it up, Max.
Great commentary. I love how much you emphasized the value and importance of her being your best friend. I think that's probably the single most important criteria for a relationship. A lot of people don't get that though.
Max, you have by far the best marriage i have ever heard. May your life be forever great with you and your wife
sounds to me like you became great friends WAAAAAAY before a relationship or marriage was on the cards. You're a lucky guy to have that kind of situation, because most are lucky to even keep the friendship going
That's both very touching & feels very insightful max! Thanks a lot for sharing! (and of course love you vids too~)
Real talk Max, you are awesome! This video series is your best.
Good on you Max for strait talk, which is the most important part of any relationship similar likes and not wanting to change one another.
i will never forget my time in zen under your leadership. thanks for everything man!
Jyoshi - Zen's first galka
Keeping your eyes open. I game every day and my wife wouldn't change that for anything, because to change that would be to change who I am. And I met her completely by chance when visiting a mutual friend and we spoke about how awesome Crash Bandicoot and Pandemonium were back in the day. PS1 gaming got me the love of my life. When you meet the right girl you'll know, the trick is to not settle for less. Go out with other girls, make those mistakes, live life. But don't SETTLE, for less.
didnt need to hear about the ken thing... I feel you revealed too much..
Speaking as someone married with a kid and who still finds time for video games - you are 100% right on Max.
this is wholesome af :') thanks for sharing your experiences with the world
Hahaha I started cracking up when you said your wife likes when you use characters in games that look like you x) pretty cool man, I hope you guys live a long happy life together as a married couple:)
Thats really cool man, i really apreciate you saying what you've said. Keep up the great work Max!
