If they never released FF14 I really do believe FF11 would have more life in it. It has a good amount right now but no where near what it could have especially if they made it more user friendly with signing up instead of feeling like you're logging into a corporate database every time.

Looks amazing, the lighting really helps! Mmm, I wish there was just... more, you know? Like more trees, some touched up textures, and some of the blocky aspects of the game being touched up and smoothed out. I want FFXI, but just a little more polished. (Edit: Spoke too soon before exiting into Gustaberg. That looks cool hahaha!) OMG the sky looks SOOOO GOOOD! The lighting really helps a lot though, and I'm impressed with what they've done so far.
Sweet! So with the removal of the ashenbubs textures from the launcher my guess is that someday we can expect this unreal engine version to become our default HorizonXI launcher. That's pretty exciting and I'm looking forward to it! Keep up the great work ^_^
@@TheEpicNewman I don’t know the details but ashenbub requested that his textures no longer come bundled with the Horizon launcher. You can still use them if you choose to but they just aren’t there by default.
@zedorian6547 I played it on PS2 upon release AGES ago, so I'm not naive to how playable it is. Now that FFXIV has been going strong for 10 years on its own, a current gen/last gen re-release of FFXI would not get a MASSIVE wave of players worth the development time to update it to work properly on said console gens. (I'm not even sure if the Xbox 360 client still works for it.) So, being that it is a complete experience at this point, the time re-developing it just for current/last gen playability would be better spent in remaking it from the ground up as a single player experience. It has an incredible story and a bevy of content, and for those that missed it during the PS2 era, the 360 era, and PC, it would be a great way to finally experience the game.

it looks nice but my biggest gripe with the game was the movement, if I could have used my mouse as a way to move around and change the camera I would have loved it far more than I did.
That FFXIV 1.0 look! Which honestly... I'm not against, just the thing that upset me most with 1.0 was how clunky everything was, and how Gridania... well... was a literal grid XD
This is neat compared to the 20+ year old game but doesn't hold a candle to the assets in FF16. There's that one zone with the hot springs that gave me flashbacks to Dangruf Wadi. It's what got me to reinstall FFXI. I'd love to see an XI remake using a modern engine.
This is just importing the same assets into unreal. They could potentially start replacing the textures with new ones. Add better lighting, ray tracing and other modern features like tessellation. Once your on unreal the possibilities are endless.. Itl be good for private servers but a retail remake will just add micro transactions and basically make ffxiv again.
Looks nice, but the rocks and bastok need more detail, however not bad at all. Now I can imagine how much work it would take to detail everything to be more realistic.
Up to you, Retail ffxi is a great place to solo anything you want (mostly) Horizon is great if you want to play the game like it was in the 75 days (partying for exp, seeking other players to do missions with, etc)

Tell you what. Let's curb our enthusiasm until we see how the ARK upgrade to unreal pans out. That is an actual studio upgrading a game with hundreds of thousands more players. Granted, my opinion of wildcard is pretty low but still.
@Kwech_ I been trying to find videos on how to import old game maps (FFXI) into unreal engine 5, just out of curiosity, imma have to go listen to all the Level Sync podcast now to see if they mention it. I. Just really interested in the process and how it's possible for fans to create it but SE wouldn't.
This doesn't look any better than the original version on a good computer video card.... The shapes are the same it's only the texture on the shape that changed... It's still flat everywhere.
While you’re partially right, the original client has many performance issues and control issues along with a whole host of extreme limitations to match.
i woildnt mind the game looking like this if it played the same as xi. Though realistically if they did a "remake" it would be a different game filled with microtransactions. A private server using this engine if it ever gets to that stage would be pretty cool.
Im okay with it looking closer to XIV so long as it plays like XI. Personally instead of looking pretty I would rather that the game make its way back onto consoles. Especially Switch and PS5….mostly Switch.

Companies need to invest time and make these games great again. They should remaster XI.

I was SE would just remake this game with unreal engine 5. A lot of old players from back in the day like myself would come back.
SE needs to remake FFXI as a single player RPG at this point.
Why? The game is still perfectly playable in retail as is. They really just need to get the game available players again.

Porting in the models and environments isn't anything new. The lighting is nothing but the static map. Everything would have to be redone
