Adam must be as hard as nails. I had a Daytona identical to his and it was by far the most uncomfortable bike I've ever ridden. But all is well now as I have a 1290 super adventure like yours but it's the black version.
Huge respect to your friend on the Daytona. I absolutely love my Daytona 675, but man I do like to get off every hour or so.. and not just because I want to look at it. His wrists and palms must be made of steel
I bought a swatch pay watch. Brilliant for contactless at the peage. Works through the jacket and gloves. Just wave your wrist at the contactless receiver and off you go!!
Excellent, I will do that next time, thanks for the tips. 4 weeks ago I did a tour (also from Surrey) to Italy and Switzerland. Amazing routes, cheap trip etc. On a second day I was already on Stelvio Pass and Garda Lake, then on the way back to UK many other Passes like Gavia, Furka, Susten etc. Literally a few days is all you need. I cannot even describe how amazing this roads in the Alps are. It is a heaven for motorcyclists.
First time on your channel for me. Two things sealed the deal. 1) Clouds darker than your soul 2) Knowledge of the e92 m3 Glad to have found another bike channel!
This is very useful, I'm planning a trip on my Kawasaki Z1000SX to coincide with some track based training organised by my local IAM group for August 2023. The event is in Folembray, near St Quentin. I was thinking of making a route through Wallonia, the Ardennes Nd the Vosges before looping around back to Folembray. Thanks for the info 👍 All the best for 2023
Great video. Funny and great to watch. You stood in front of my door, Gasthof Engel in Gutach! The B500 is quite ok, but the ascents and descents there are good and interesting roads. Greetings from an KTM 1190 Driver from the Black Forest. I look forward to the next episode.
I’ve never toured on any of my bikes and was thinking it’s about time I did, this video makes me more determined to do it instead of making excuses why I cant.
i done this route in June on my Benelli 1130, it was raining when i left for the Dover ferry (cheap) camping along the way through thunderstorms I headed down to the alps slowly taking in the sights and food till day 5 i was near lake Geneva switzerland where i was t boned by a Renault Clio.Took a month to get the bike back to the uk and 2 months for me to rebuild it. Next year i shall make my way back and continue the journey from the scene of my accident . Cash saving tips if you have the time/carrying capacity are lightweight camping gear and cook your own food when weather is nice or F1 hotels very cheap, fill up drinking water from mountain troughs ,it's real mineral water, make your own coffee. Fill up in towns not motorways and avoid tolls if time allows .Also the ferry is obviously cheaper .Enjoyed the video
Lucky you have garmin navigator, bluetooth stuff for your helmet and some sponsor. I just done France, Italy, Switzerland and nothing but a tent and google map on my old phone. I managed to spent less than £350 for 5 days. Includes campsite, food, drink, fuel, tolls and campsite. But you are right you don't need to spend a lot of money to enjoy your riding holiday abroad. Just make sure your bike is in proper condition.
Great vid, road trips are always good fun (except for with 2nd degree sunburn) First I thought you were casually cruising at 140mph, then realised can change from MPH to KMH lol
This may be a daft question, but I worry a tad about the bike falling over when the tunnel train wobbles or stops. I know it’s mostly smooth, but sometimes it does shake around a bit…… so I haven’t take the bike on the tunnel yet.
Much better riding on the continent. Also better biking culture than the UK. I have been going for 15 years all over the place on different bikes. Best tips? Never wear a rucksack and don’t bother with Stelvio Pass.
I’d agree but my Kriega R30 is excellent on my KTM - it rests on my pillion seat a bit so I genuinely don’t feel it. It was far more noticeable on my 1198 a few years ago!
Ive been riding SC59 around sumatra for about two years. To be honest, its not exhausting but painfull to all your body parts. But it still possible, for sport bike just ride fast and you won't feel the pain till the end of the day. Because sport bike is so light and fast, just its engine heat and riding position is inhumane for long rides
@@greyanaroth well, its impossible using sport bike for daily / long ride use. For younger people, they attracted to sportbike. But actually, they should stick to naked bike. Its makes more sense. Excellent video, Tim - I'm looking forward to episode 2. In the meantime, my touring plans for this year have been brought to a shuddering halt after a stone made a nice little hole in the radiator of my Super Duke GT. I've been waiting almost a month for KTM to ship a replacement from Austria, and their UK customer service has been ABYSMAL. I'm starting to suffer from a severe case of buyer's remorse...
I love the verve and panache in these updates, very vivid and inspiring...the unabashed schoolboy enthusiasm should not be dismissed lightly - be good to have the GPX file/s and hotel info in the intro for a more thorough account - well-done and thank you sir!
I'll do a sum-up at the end, but our hotels averaged £40 a night per person, and it was 3 nights. So £120 for accommodation, probably £160 for fuel, £90 for Eurotunnel… and a bit for food. So not shoestring, but certainly not awful... and you can obviously spread the cost of Eurotunnel/accom by booking it in advance
@@timrodierides very affordable indeed. Thanks for the reply, looking forward to the next episode. I enjoy how 'normal' this channel is. Sans BS if you know what I mean!
We went in the 2nd week of September. February would probably be too early - some of the Vosges mountain roads we did go through ski resorts which I guess might still be snowy in Feb. There's also quite a large chance of rain, but that might not bother you! It'd certainly mess up my hair...
I've not had any problems with it really other than the high-speed weave (now mostly fixed). It's been faultless other than that - I've only done 3500 miles on it though!
Hey Tim, another great episode as usual minus the God pee... looking forward to the next episode! I'm not sure where to ask this but have you ever thought of coming to the USA to ride? Most motorways in France are peages, a few aren't but the vast majority are. It would take forever to get to your destination riding on Route Nationals unless of course you have oodles of free time or you are just a tight wad. But then you risk being caught in the many speed traps set up by the rozzers all over France.
