I cant tell you how pleased i am with this bike. I will be using my one for long distance touring abroad, it’s the best bike I’ve ever ridden, i cant really fault it except for the small footprint of the side stand, easily sorted though. I also think if you are an existing GSA rider you will have no problem with its size, in fact much more nimble. A very enjoyable video, kind regards.
I've heard rumours that Wales is planning to classify this bike as a campervan when introducing a visitor levy for campervans and other types of accommodation.
I'm in awe of BMW's marketing department. They have convinced so many people that an extremely heavy and expensive bike is suitable for off-road. To make it even more perfect, most never go off road. I got caught up in the spell and bought a 1200GS when it came out in 2005. This was based on how impressed I was after hiring a 1100 GS about 7 years earlier. I've never experienced any vehicle soak up the pot holes on a terrible sand road. The 1200 felt like my car or any road bike over rutted or pot holed surfaces. (The performance of the 1100 was very lacklustr, 1200 wasnt good enough for me, but the 1300 is great from that perspective). Back then, it made slightly more sense to buy a GS as the market was dominated by sports bikes, and I couldn't tolerate the sport riding position. The price was also far more reasonable in 2005 and it wasn't so tech laden. Today, it makes no sense to me as to why you would want such a big, heavy, expensive, and complex bike. If you own the bike for a while, there are so many electronic features that can fail and will cost you an arm and a leg to repair. Real offroad bikes weigh 98kg, not 270kg.
I agree - I kinda think the marketing message is 'ooo it can go off-road', but most people then just think 'oh it'll be good for on-road touring too', which is what most of these will do. It'd be an epic bike for long distance on-road touring. I just think the off-road stuff will be best left in the marketing material
Overwhelming majority of people use their bikes as road vehicles, and they're the light (and slightly cheaper) ones there, just compare it to e.g. BMW's RT - a mountain of plastic that weighs good 50 kg more. Nothing against a RT but maybe some people want to feel like they're riding a bike. Even if they don't want to feel it too much. For off-roading, I don't know what the situation is in England and other countries but in Europe, unless you ride in enclosed areas (or illegally), you're stuck with (relatively) wide and tame roads that certain don't require an enduro such as EXC. Bikes like GS do quite well on those. Also, you may need to travel for quite a distance on tarmac to get there, where these bikes shine (especially if you compare them to enduros). As for the electronics, the bikes are able to work with let's say BT or CC broken - and they work the same as bikes that don't have BT or CC. The only crucial one is ECU but thanks to emission standards, ECUs are in every bike. Overall, if you put marketing aside, I say people buying adventure bikes are buying the right bike for their needs. The only thing is, yes, they are expensive to buy and maintain but maybe some of them value the functionality more than the money.
Had three GSs, including a 1250 GSA, moved to Ducati and not going back. The GSA is too ugly, too noisy, too heavy, too tall and it’s still got a tractor gearbox, wouldn’t dream of riding off road on one.
@IanTed I'm not a fan of BMW as a company (au contraire...it's a horrible company). But the GS and GSA are great bikes for long distance touring and going on where the asphalt stops. It's definitely not an off-road bike by any means but it will not stop you from being able to continue your route over bumpy gravel roads either. I have been riding 1200/1250's for many years. Because of the idiotic, lack of customer service behaviour of BMW I have considered switching to a Multistrada V4 Rally. However, the Ducati is not as relaxed to drive as the 1250 is. It doesn't really like going under 3000 rpm and it's really far from fuel efficient (to say the least.....). The Multistrada is a most beautiful bike but for long tour vacations with an occasional gravel road I would take the GSA any day of the week. Not to mention the Ducati is really heavily overpriced. Spec it up and you will pay much more than for the GSA.

Before anyone says "I am ready for a break at 150 miles", so am I, but it has happened more than once where a gas station is closed, or out of fuel. I agree old got. I owned the original bmw g800gs. Back in the 80’s . Can’t stand all the electronic crap they are adding to new bmw’s. . I just want a speedo and gas gauge.
I agree - just buy a car and be happy.
You lost power because that car came in from your right, the radar (ACC) picked it and cutoff the speed. Happened very quickly really.
@@gidds4809 yeah. Quite annoying having control taken away but good I suppose for people who accelerate into cars 🙃
My next bike not yet though.
Just No need… to much tech and far to Expensive ! Taking biking out of biking!
Stick with my put a smile on my face T7.
You will only know the success of the bike after a year of sales. If it sells less than the old 1250 GSA it’s a fail. I have a 1250 GSA and won’t be buying a new one. Actually looking at another brand . Sad
Quick shifter use at low speeds, I don't see the point, I don't use mine unless I'm over 50mph.....
You really like misery. If you have it. Don't deny yourself. The only gear I manually do is 1st gear from stationary
@@expatbiker6598 it's not for low speed, that's idea of a quick shifter, high speed gear changes, not for speeds below 50mph..
What absolute nonsense, not for below 50mph?!
@@timrodieridesreally prove me wrong then Tim..?? I'll wait
@@grenphelps7455 I use mine from about 15mph. There, proved you wrong!
Bikes now have too much technology. I'll stick with me BMX bike please, good ol simplistic 😂😂😂
Most of the problems are behind the handlebars😉
@@SamiSchuster-g1h but of course!
The looks are growing on me, so I don't have the urge to vomit. The engine, however, sounds asthmatic and may need an inhaler.
23 grand of ridiculous over kill, and it doesn't even look nice .
The bike buying public are moving in the opposite direction from this monstrosity.
The bike went in to crash mode and pulled on the brakes when you came up behind the car fast, you can turn it off in the menu
I was going to say that, but someone already did.
It didn't brake - and I'd turned that system off before I set off, which is what confused me...
1250 all the way.
HOW DARE YOU. But yeah it's a f'ing good motorcycle!
What did I do now?! :D
1250 GSA all the way..
Meanwhile, over on another channel / at the other end of the spectrum, a chap doing a tour of the uk on a 125….and seems to have managed without any of this stuff. ua-cam.com/video/a3qFXArFIl4/v-deo.htmlsi=1PoZ7laJrcMbYm0Z
Are you saying we should all buy 125s and nothing else? Madness
Er, no.
Would it be fun enough to take it on a European ww2 tour?
Yes! But I'd miss my MT-10 immediately for noise/power delivery and general sense of naughtiness
I'm sure it's fantastic but at low revs it sounds like a tractor
A very ticky one
Tractors, best cross slow speed vehicle. 😂
My bin lorry sounds identical 😂
I think its expensive for a car.
It costs a lot more than my Honda Jazz did
Near idle bike sounds like a load of loose nuts…
Try a Ducati with a dry clutch...
Try a 4-cylinder BMW…
I never thought it would happen in my lifetime, but someone actually built an uglier bike than the Harley Pan American...and they beat it by quite a large margin as well, which is no small feat...Boomers never did have any taste, I wish they would all retire and go away...
If you need all this electronic gizzery on a bike you need to look seriously at your ability to actually ride a bike,as for the price.
At what point are we meant to stop progress though?
No just no. If I had all the money in the world, there would be no place in the garage for this thing. This is made for people who have no idea what motorcycling is about. More power to them.
This is basically like a Honda Goldwing that pretends to be an offroader too 5% of the time.
It's about 100% more nimble than a Goldwing to be fair
What's motorcycling about?
Motorcycle is different to each rider. Sportsbikes, adventure, Harley, supermoto, moped, scooters.. all different.. you just lack imagination.
What's that horrible blue wheeled bike in background @ 18.15 🤮🤮🤮🤣
Looks like a Yamaha MT03, they really screwed the color scheme I know 😂
That bike looks pointless to me.
That doesn’t make any sense. How can it ‘look’ pointless? Do you mean it won’t be used to its full potential by most people? If so then you’re probably right but then you could say the same about most expensive bikes. If someone likes it then that’s up to them and beauty is always in the eye of the beholder.
This comment is pointless
Pointless comment. You could say a Panigale V4S is pointless. Or a Tenere 700 is pointless because I don't go off road...
😂
First!!!!
What do you want, a medal?
@ yes!!!
I fell asleep during this review 🤣🤣
Thanks!
@ not a criticism, I’m just tired 🥱 Love the stuff you do for cars and bikes 👍
