Something about it reminds me of Rush’s Hemispheres album when you were playing the 335 in the first part of the video
How does this guy only have 255K subscribers??? You are one of the best on UA-cam! Love the way you simplify and explain tone so beautifully! Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for your support!
Excellent video. I ordered one based on your and Doug Rappoport's videos. This is the best amp I've heard in some time! Cheers.
Pete, I'm a fan and that was your best intro song to date. Absolutely loved it. We need an album. I want to listen to that, very loud, in my car.
Have the combo version. Best amp I have owned by far and I have owned quite a few in my life. Marshalls, Fenders, Mesa Boogies, Friedmans... this one blows them all away.
How heavy is is to tote around, and load in & out?
I’ve loved everything I’ve read & heard about BadCat Amos, but I’ve never got to play one.
Butch Walker spoke well of their 40r Cub model, but I think I like this one better, at least on UA-cam.
I am considering getting the combo myself I am curious, however I can’t see in the pictures if it is a close back combo or not that is what’s helping me make my decision, but I do think it is basically their attempt at a more modern version of the plexi, of course however the master volumes and independent channel volumes allow us to be a great aunt for gigging and bedroom, so that’s why I think it would make a great combo to have truly I do wonder when you hook the extension speaker up to this combo does it disable the speaker? Thanks for any feedback you guys have on this and how you have done with carrying it from gig to gig has the combo been a problem? 11:04
The spirit of Kevin Gilbert lives on through that intro song \m/\m/
This Pete Thorn model sounds amazing, lots of tone definition and clarity...... Pete, you're awesome. Oh, and the amp sounds ok too.
What a great sounding amp! That’s a keeper for sure!!!
Great demo as usual!! I've been playing Bad Cat amplifiers for 9 years and I love them!! The new generation of Bad Cat Amps are killer.
I was just telling my brother to get one of these and low and behold, Pete is Covering it.
Holy s##t Pete. This is one of your best videos ever! Best demo of a products capability I have ever seen. Well done brother!
Peter delivering another killer demo vid with dope playing…that BadCat sounds pretty delish also!
I come for the opening jam, stay for the review. That thing sounds killer! Looking up the price now.
I say this every time you play it: that strat is probably the best sounding strat I’ve ever heard! Please pls let me know when you’re ready to part with it thanks!
The "Bad Cat" amps sound great (from what I have seen on UA-cam). I like this style of amp head- because I can usually get a good clean sound.
Pete could play a $100 Guitar with a cheap solid state amp and make it sound good. This guy is the absolute best on YT. Soulful playing plus he can blaze and it’s all very melodic. I love to listen to him. How is this guy not a household name?
I've watched a lot of your amp reviews and this one was likely the most TO IT that you've done. There's something about that amp that comes off like it has a presence control up about 1 click too high but, other than that, it's stunning. I would literally go out this afternoon and slap down the $1,800 for one if I had it - without even playing it, simply from what you covered in this video. I imagine with 12AU7s instead of 12AX7s it would be a Page-esque dream machine pushed just right through a really loose old Jensen. I'm looking for a button that gives me Mike Campbell after a pint of something really strong. I think you get it. Great video, Pete. Glad to see you're taking care of yourself and not pressing to run marathons making crazy long vids. This was just about perfect; simple, precise and to the point like a magic trick.
One of my favorite amps of all time was a Sampson era hot cat 30r. This sounds killer!
I had a very early hot cat and I fought that thing to get a good sound out of it. There was just no throatiness in the tone. This thing sounds like a different animal all together.
Oh… that sounds killer! I haven’t bought an amp in quite some time but I’ve been eyeing that one. Perfect timing Pete! 😁🤘
WOW. That sounds amazing. Right up my ally. That said, your song and playing were absolutely fantastic, as they usually are.
It sounds very good. Sorta like a pushy vox to my ear.
Love the Emi7 to the Bbma6 change, Pete
Man, that was an epic piece of music! Killer..
Nice! I really like the quality of tone with this amp, nice and defined with a lot of clarity without harshness. Sweet!
Great video and great sounding amp. What really hit me from the first notes was the brightness, but in a good way! Gobs of clarity in the sounds you achieved, Pete. Well done~!
Killer playing, Pete! as always and the Bad Cat sounds fantastic...love the nod to Chris Isaak at @10:10
Sounds better than an actual cat. Very nice edge as you said. Great demo track as always!
I think that Tele sound was insane with those chords. I want to go get that amp now just to plug mine in....
Great demo Pete! My only criticism of the amp is that I can't see the labels on the controls when I'm playing live.
killing it as always.didn't want to hit the thumbs up cause it's at 138 and well....we are 138.
I love amps where you can hover around a moon setting on all controls. I think it gives me the flexibility to use with any guitar.
awesome playing as always Pete, love the sound of this beast
Have a CubllR combo 2x10’s with their spring reverb tank. Glorious!
Sounds like a good overdub amp for arpeggiated stuff and adding some definition. Seemed pretty bright for a main rock rhythm tone. Wonder if it’s as simple as keeping the treble and presence below 12 O’Clock.
I want to listen to that, very loud, in my car, too ;-) Great Pete.................................................................
The Bad Cat has more presence and live vs the marshall felt like pillow in front of the amp. Great video, thks.
I can tell when you dig an amp. This sounded great!
Interesting chord progression with the chromatic( I think) descending tone. Very nice!
Wow! I actually own something before Pete puts out a demo of it. Got it around a month ago, and so far am loving it. Whether I’ll ever get it to sound quite as good as this video though, is an entirely different question.
How does it do at lower volumes? I'm used to Dave Friedman's volume magic, so I don't have an attenuator; will I need one?
@@WilliamZuest pretty good from my experience with it so far. That was one of the selling points when I was in the store looking for something. I’d actually gone in with the Victory V40 Deluxe in mind, and walked away with the Bad Cat. I can happily play it at 11:00 at night, have it sound good and not wake the neighbourhood.
@TheRealCAPerry Excellent. Thanks for the info. The V40; what a great amplifier that is. If I ever get more into pedal platforming, that'll be the one, for sure.
Sweet opening track!! Thanks Pete!
Thorn + BadCat = 🤯
Have yet to hear a badcat I didn't like. Always seem to produce all the frequencies at a balanced level to me
Wow, that's wild. Id love to try one of these out.
Nice Ending Pete! great Amp Gain!☮️🎸
Great demo
Pete, you’re the first person that comes to mind when trying to figure this out but I’m trying to get a good old Marshall sound out of my evh iconic 40 watt. I have everything but I can’t figure out where to put the resonance. I figured you would be the guy that would know how much resonance an old Plexi or Super Lead would have.
great sounding amp!
Love this amp! Great review!
Amp sounds great!
Your '72 Marshall 50w sounds great too.
Yeah, just a little more lean and aggressive, and sizzly, but for this sound, I actually prefer the bad cat. I could’ve dialed the Marshall a little different and probably got them close.
Bad Cat sounded way better than the Marshall to ears as well!
So thats a combo I do alot of in my studio; 335 and Tele for rhythm parts panned L&R. AThe 335 and Tele are opposite in almost every way; 24.75 vs 25.5, alder vs Mahogany and Maple, humbucker vs single coil etc…..and yet they both sound great and compliment each other……
Great demo Pete! Hope you can capture a Tonex IR profile for this amp! See you Sunday!
There are 2 Badcats in this video.
Very STP. Love it 🤘👍
That was my first thought as well. The chords, tone, and some of the solo parts are so STP!
Thank you!!
Great tune.
instant Wilson sound,.
Literally the first thing that I thought of during the intro demo
I learned something the 72 Marshall sounds amazing, Bad Cats always sound a bit to brittle for my ears
Amp sounds like it got the Friedman treatment...tighter lows. Richer mids. Polished lightly softened highs.
Sounds great !
Solo Dallas unit at the back.
sounds similiar to the Dirty Shirley 40.. just a great rock amp
Great Video , Pete !! That sounds like a great Amp . But if I had the cash my first choice would be the PT 15 .
Hope you're doing well . 🎸
Nice intro track Pete!
Great playing Pete! All your demos are top notch!
So what do you say about this amp - good to go for Heavy Metal band or needs more gain?
I generally use more gain and was wondering what you think about this one for say a modern Judas Priest / Accept kind of sound?
Sounds like Matchless?
Some of the intro makes me feel like someone has been listening to some STP
Sounds great. I am sure the verb in it is a Belton DTDR-2H made by Accutronics the same company since Noah got off the boat that has made the spring reverbs Fender and everyone uses. This verb is in Marshalls JVM 410 H which is their flagship handwired amp. They really nailed the sound. They wanted a verb that responded like their springs but did not want a faux spring sound, because they sound fake. They should know, LOL.
I thought it was digital. Maybe that's the black cat
It is a digital reverb! We custom voice it. You have so much more possibilities than with a spring. We know some people will dissent, but just listen to it 😂!!
Lmao, should probably at least look at the specs before that in depth incorrect comment,fn hilarious
Nice amp
#NERDALERT TC Electronic TC2290-DT Desktop-controlled Dynamic Delay Plug-in
Great sounding amp! Although why they chose to put in a digital reverb, with all of the quality otherwise built into the amp, is unclear. This one doesn't sound anything like a true reverb. It sounds really digital. Ugh. I've heard better pedal-based reverbs.
Everything processed through the same DAW fx chain sounds the same.
That bad cat Hot hat is a real Hot head! 😂
@PeteThorn what pickups did you have in the 335? Killer tone!
VERY Chris Cornell chord progression in the demo song - I could believe that was a "Euphoria Mourning" outtake
That first change in the main rhythm part, what I think is Em7 to Gm/Bb (or Bbmaj6), is great
It’s almost like Pete played with him or something 😂
@@SeeMick1 I know, that's why I mentioned it
Mr Thorn ,I have a 50 watt Top Hat Emplexador. MKll ,does the Hot Cat have more gain on tap where I wouldn’t have to use any additional boost, gain or distortion pedals? I play mostly classic rock, LZ,Aero,AC/DC etc…………..Thanks
Reminds me of a '69 50w on the clean, but I suppose it's loosely based on my favorite transitional Marshall JTM45 with EL34's, which is also Angus's favorite recording amp and iso under the stage. But this is a SS rectifier?
vintage 70 and 80's tone
How clean does the clean channel stay at louder volumes with humbuckers? It sounds fantastic otherwise
What speakers and mics were used??
Great sound!!! Love this amp now! Please could you tell me what pickups u use on this beautifull BIG RED Gibson?
They are original! One patent number in the bridge and a PAF in the neck
Hey pete. Is there a volume bump as well on that lo/hi switch?
Hey Pete - great video. What are you using to switch amp heads?
The ampete amp switcher….
Pete, would you please tell them there is no Badcat dealer in Canada please
Westcoast Guitars in Vancouver, Northerner Guitars in Edmonton, Cosmic Dave’s and Guitar Shop Mississauga in Ontario are all dealers.
What year is the strat, tele, and 335?
can it accept a 4 ohm load?
Yes
How was this recorded... Mic'd up Iso cab ?
Yes, I have a cabinet in the other room, an old Marshall
@@PeteThorn awesome tone... Cab with greenbacks? Trying to choose between the hot cat and the lynx!
Alive jet 62
One of those chords is the first chord to At The Drive In, One Armed Scissor. Love it Pete!
