- The empire created many different organizations to hunt down the Jedi amongst the best were the force sensitive Inquisitors and Imperial Shadow Guard. They were both fearsome in their own way but which organization was better?

The uniformity, discipline and grasp of basic tactics and teamwork makes the Shadow Guard almost like the sith version of the clone troopers
this also makes them harder to defeat with plot armor.
That and since they are Force sensitive and trained to almost be additional Sith themselves they're gonna have a much easier time of fighting Jedi then most others. Even alot of Inquisitors didn't seem to particularly good at beating their former comrades whether they could find them or not

Not saying that they ARE Sith Troopers but saying that due to the standardisation and discipline they are the Dark Side version of the Clones.
Regimented and ordered as opposed to the Inquisitors mismatch of skills and styles
Lets also not forget the massive brainwashing they recieved to make the fanaticly loyal to the emperor and only the emperor. So while Inquisitors might be willing to bargain if pushed into a corner or can maybe even turned against each other with the promise that only the successfull one of the group gets Palpatines favor, the Shadow Guard won't fall for such things. They will fullfill their order no matter what. And if the order would be to kill themselves, they would do so - without doubt or hesitation.

Daniel Johnson In the movies, they were ordered to miss, like on the Tantive VI, those rebels didn't just drop and play dead.
There was another weakness the inquisitor had, the spinning lightsabers. The spinning made for a great intimidation factor against inexperience jedi but experienced jedi knew to aim for the hilt because of how exposed it was.
Personally I like the idea behind them, because they were weak in the force and not often well trained they needed some mechanical advantage for it, so they basically copied what grievous used to overwhelm jedi before without force powers. Just obviously couldn’t be given 4 arms.
@@cephery8482 Oh, I don't mind the spinning lightsabers, except when they flew with them because that was stupid. I am just saying that the spinning would work against padawans and average Jedi because of the intimidation factor. Masters and skilled fighters like Ahsoka Tano and Darth Maul can overwhelm the inquisitors with skill alone, while Jedi who have experience fighting them like Kanen Jarrus and Cal Kestis eventually learned how to beat them.
I would rather not want to fight an Imperial Shadow Guard. Just for the fact that they wielded deadly lightsaber pikes, had limited force abilities, they could cloak, and could call in shadow troopers. Plus, their outfit had a nice intimidation factor. Mix that with their penchant for silence, and you got yourself a deadly assassin/jedi hunter.

Perhaps the Inquisitors should have been like the Jedi during the Clone Wars.
They should have been the Generals and Commanders of the Imperial Army. Purge Troopers would have been their personal troops, like how Rex was always with Anakin, even though the 501st was rather large and always assisting other Jedi.
They were more Force Sensitive than the Shadow Guard, and so they could have used training like how Vader was training them, but more efficiently this time, and learn from each other.
Shadow Guards were better Jedi Hunters and do a better job on hunting them by themselves. So they were more fit for special operations, and with Shadow Troopers at their disposal, that makes them a smaller elite squad version of the Inquisitors with their Purge Troopers.
If I was force sensitive in Palpatine’s Imperial Forces, I’d push for such an agenda to have the 2 groups and their foot soldiers be used for greatly different purposes.

Look up Inquisitor Jerec. He'd probably the most well know Legends Imperial Inquisitor.

I've never really been a fan of how they both basically have the same job: hunting and killing Jedi.
If it were up to me, the Inquisitors would be the ones who hunt and kill Jedi. And the Shadow Guard would be a branch of Palpatine's personal bodyguards who specifically specialize in protecting the Emperor from Force-users. Not necessarily against Jedi, but potentially against Inquisitors, or Vader, if any of them wanted to usurp the throne. And unlike Inquisitors, actually would rely on more defensive rather than offensive tactics.

Palpatine had a practice of deliberately creating two different organizations with the same job, so that they would stay too busy competing against each other to grow stronger and challenge his power. He did the same thing with the ISB and Imperial intelligence. Same job done by two groups so that they keep each other in check.

I would say Shadow guard is the most dangerous. While more predictable in some ways, in many ways, predictable but incredibly effective combined arms warfare is far more lethal that a band of in fighting misfits. At the very least you can expect the shadow guard always perform their job well, and do it the best of their ability. The same can not be said of the Inquisitors. While having the same benefits of their position and occupation, and having the resources of the Empire behind them, the Shadow guard would make far better use of the resources allocated to the Inquisitors, and develop an efficient plan, that would not emphasize personal glory. An in that point is what I think is most important, between the two groups. The Inquisitors would destroy themselves purposely or unconsciously through their Battle planning and their scheming against one another, long before the Jedi who escapes Order 66 ever would. The Shadow Guard would not face such problems. Note: This is just my opinion, what do you guys think?

Shadow Guard has force lighting, battle tactics and focus more on the mission isn't of finding glory. While the inquisitors are only dark jedi that rely on strength, technology or force ability. Yeah Shadow Guard is the MVP for hunting jedi.

Shadow guards. Though they fight for the emipire they actually show what a force user in the military should look like. Unlike the jedi who had no military training or tactics in the clone wars.
I would say 10% of the jedi order members had battle tactics. While the others were peacekeepers of the galaxy.

@@armycowboy4313 Well they do have jedi ace pilots and the guardian branch of jedi. But they had so few knights and few of them die in battle. So they made apprentices rank up to knight hood at early age during the clone wars before they were older and wise about the fundamentals of the force and the art of war. That why many next generation jedi fallen to the dark side.
@@armycowboy4313 If I recall correctly, that was actually a thing (in Legends) that was stopped about a thousand years before the movies (aside from the blasters bit, I'm pretty sure Jedi have always been averse to blasters). The Jedi fought the various incarnations of the Sith empire as trained military leaders and soldiers off and on for thousands of years after the Great Hyperspace War, ending only after the defeat of the Brotherhood of Darkness (due to shenanigans on Darth Bane's part). With the Sith threat believed to be extinguished, the Jedi deliberately demilitarized to help transition the Republic to a more peacetime focus, abandoning military training, combat armor, etc. and taking up the role of basically glorified police officers.

Shadow guard are far more intimidating and cunning than The inquisitorious, their skills with a Lightsaber are proficient and their knowledge of the Dark Side of the Force Out matches that of even the Grand inquisitor

Shadow guard imo just by their tactical ability alone. The ability to put the mission first and work as a team to weaken an opponent rather than for personal gain would give them less of a weakness that can be exploited
Personally I think the Inquisitors are much cooler. The Second Sister in fallen order was a great villain and I love the fights in rebels between Ahsoka and the Inquisitors
They are much cooler and good looking but the shadow guards are better and scarier, they don't speak they'll just kill you without hesitation or saying anything, the inquisitors are dumb and actually interrogates the jedi, instead of finishing them.

Shadow guard because. The moment you said they had force lighting. You had my vote. Plus I played the force unleashed game and the villain is little hard to be honest.
I love force lightning but judging by how many people can shrug it off it seems a little ineffective to me. Besides, i seem to remember hearing that some types of armor can block it as well. I think it would come down to who has the better armor and lightsaber techniques and the inquisitors seem a little lacking in both departments, and to be honest their fighting style seems flashy but impractical
@@arthas640 Might have to do with training. Sidious can disentagrate people at full power, and Jerec could leave people disoriented and badly burned.
Perhaps lesser dark siders can only stun and hurt people.

The problem with this your comparing canon version of the organization rather then their legends counterpart is unfair. force users and Inquisitors in legends were more powerful than their canon counterpart.

You could try to run from a Shadow Guard, but if you give an inquisitor the slip for even a moment they will call upon the stormtroopers that they pre-positioned to cut off your escape.

And?? For all you know Shadow Guards could have Shadow Troopers positioned in the battlefield ready to turn off their cloaking device and reveal themselves and fire upon the Jedi. Not to mention stormtroopers are absolutely USELESS against a Jedi. whether ur talking about Disney's "cant hit a thing" stormtrooper or Legend's "badass". stormtroopers

Are you kidding? There’s no question about who’s better! It’s the Shadow Guard! They never worry about personal infighting, always putting the mission first. No Inquisitor can match their discipline, and most can’t even match their power.
I was thinking initially that the Inquisitors would take this one, but after watching the analysis, I realized that the Shadow Guards are almost definitely superior. Not only do they have more dark side powers, but their single minded focus on their missions makes them more of a force to be reckoned with, in my opinion.
In legends there where several off branches of the Jedi order. ( Such as the order of the Iron Knight's. Made up of force using droids.) What happend to those orders? And how many/ best ones where there.
The Jedi didn’t really recognize the iron knights as Jedi, so they didn’t really stick around, so in legends Luke finds them and makes them Jedi

@WillFanofMany Well yeah. So far to me, that's been a bit more believable in the canon since it's so far the inquisitor there has been a smaller group. Then again the new canon is still ongoing so we don't know what they might throw in or add later.
I'm talking about the EU/Legend canon. Cause they always adding in all these large dark Jedi or skill Jedi hunters. Under Palpatine and Vader command. But make it so they always die off way before the O.T. starts. Before Luke and others could get to face them.
Makes sense for *Starkiller* and *Maul* to be able to wipe the floor with them...not some annoying, whiny kid and his padawan master.
@@deadmanwalking971 Well, TBH Kanan got more in touch with the force and learned a lot when he took Ezra under his wing, he's basically the Canon version of Rahm Kota. And he also went to a jedi temple and got help from Ahsoka Tano. Ezra on the other hand is pretty much the canon version of Starkiller, he's simply pretty powerful with the force, and in some ways got ahead of Kanan in his force techniques during his apprenticeship.

Generation Tech I’m kind of in the doldrums of life right now. I’ve ended one major career, had a couple short work stints, currently biding my time until my next big career can start this August. Your videos are great. They help me keep from going insane in this incredibly “meh” time in my life.

Honestly, I didn't know about the Shadow Guard before this video.
You can find shadow guard in The Force Unleashed Campaign Guide and sun guards of thrysus in Galaxy At War Guide. Both of the books are Wizards Of The Coast D&D RPG books. I love both these groups, the sun guard give you something other than Mando's and they get turned into a sith cult. I just wish they were shown some love.

Hunting isn't just about fighting.
A lit of the commentary on this video seems to be just about combat.
I like the Shadow guards a lot more. Even though they're weaker in the force than most jedi, their uniforms and weapon are very cool. I think they fit the Sith's plans much better than the Inquisitors. While the Inquisitors are independent and powerful, the Shadow Guards are much more suited as enforcers and assassins. They're basically an order of weaker Vaders who can be sent to clean up things that the Sith aren't willing to bother with. They're also far more mysterious, and such are much more likely to survive after the Empire's fall in episode 6.
I think they both have their good points when it comes to killing both I really like the pieck so I would go with the shattograde

you forget the emperors hands who were by far the most effective they consisted of force sensitive children who were found and then trained by the emperor himself. the emperor used mind bending force techniques to make the fanatically loyal to him and which only wore of after years of not being reinforced. one of them almost killed Luke multiple times and that was several years after the emperor was killed.

Personally I think the shadowguard would handle Jedi much MUCH more effectively than the Inquisitors. The shadow guards were able to hold their weight up against not just any force user but STARKILLER, apprentice of Darth Vader. STARKILLER was already a dark side user so that makes his abilities much more lethal than a jedi's by default but to top that off we all know what he was capable of. Whereas with the Inquisitors, they were already at a disadvantage being former Jedi and not even powerful ones at that (except for the grand Inquisitor) and with that said, theyre lack of standardized methods make them really unorthodox at times and that tends to put them in bad situations.
Considering how worthless the inqisitors were in Rebels, I'd say the Shadow guard
You see we need to give canon a bit of time. I feel like the inquisiters will probably be great.. and old canon characters could be comming back as inquisitors. Thats why i vote on them they need time and i am not a CANON SUCKS guy or LEGENDS SUCK i am in between and as a consumer i feel more like the inquisitors are the better choice for me. Shadow Guard are easily a superior formation that would be far more effective at the task of hunting down and destroying Jedi.
They lack the individualist flash and 'cool' factor of a "super villain" team like the Inquisitors have, which might make them more appealing from a 'wow, that looks neat!' sort of way, but the Shadow Guard simply had better depth, training, employment, and professionalism.

Hi Allen, I think this is an uneven comparison because you are comparing canon Inquisitorius and Legends Shadow Guards. Frankly, I like the legends Inquisitorius more than their canon counterpart and I'd say that they'd be more powerful than the Shadow Guards.
But for the sake of argument and going along with your comparison, I think the Shadow Guards are superior to canon Inquisitors. You've mentioned that the Shadow Guards would be very similar or standardized with one another, it is possible but there are always prodigies in any organization, take for example Kir Kanos and Carnor Jax or the clone troopers themselves that were clones, received the same training and you have, Rex, Cody, Fordo etc etc.

@Sistros I agree with you Legends Inquisitors are far superior such as Jerec for example. He is stronger than the Canon Inquisitors. Like the remains of the Sun Guard are also in the Shadow Guard which makes the Canon Inquisitors a complete joke. Canon Inquisitors are like Skeletor, they talk a big game but they don't do anything Rebels for example, always escape like if it is their daily routine which makes the Canon Inquisitors so incapable of their job.

@WillFanofMany While Ep 7 was very similar in vibe to the original trilogy, it was an acceptable film and brought none of the hate that ep 8 brought out from fans. I don't expect anything major from ep 9, but I think JJ will try to fix some of the damage caused by Rian.

The inquisitors were intentionally given a watered down version of Sith training. They were kept relatively weak in the force so none of them could ever hope to rival Vader or the Emperor.
They learned enough of the dark side and swordsmanship to take down Jedi, usually by working in pairs.
The Inquisition ( sorry, this just sounds better than Inquistorius) just has a bit more meat to them. There’s more to work with there, narratively speaking.
How to easily kill Jedi for dummies:
1. Make a 3+ barrelled blaster capable of firing 3+ blaster bolts at once, so the lightsabre can't deflect them all
2. Profit.
Alternatively use ballistic, or laser weapons (anything that doesn't fire plasma really)

I wouldn't be surprised if the sith lord have both organizations order to hunt the jedi and force users. But Shadow guard would be the higher class above Inquisitors in my opinion.
King Namor 777 the shadow guards are higher in the imperial ranks but I just prefer the inquisitors because they have more personality and a different variety of force powers
I would have the shadow guard be the Inquisitorial military unit so that way you don't have inquisitors bumping heads if each has a squad or two of shadow guards to back each one up. This would allow them to operate without pulling everyday imperial forces from their regular duties unless it is really needed; and let's them operate for longer if you give them a decent ship with maybe some Starfighter deployability to operate for longer periods. Like the only thing I took away from ea's battlefront 2 was that raider corvet I rally liked that ship.

Imperial Shadow Guards because they have a lightsaber pike and will use it against any Jedi that stand in their way. Also, they can call in reinforcements when they are overwhelmed. They have Imperial Shadow Troopers which are technically Imperial Stormtroopers with black armor and they use cloaking devices.
Perhaps the Inquisitors should have been like the Jedi during the Clone Wars.
They should have been the Generals and Commanders of the Imperial Army. Purge Troopers would have been their personal troops, like how Rex was always with Anakin, even though the 501st was rather large and always assisting other Jedi.
They were more Force Sensitive than the Shadow Guard, and so they could have used training like how Vader was training them, but more efficiently this time, and learn from each other.
Shadow Guards were better Jedi Hunters and do a better job on hunting them by themselves. So they were more fit for special operations, and with Shadow Troopers at their disposal, that makes them a smaller elite squad version of the Inquisitors with their Purge Troopers.
If I was force sensitive in Palpatine’s Imperial Forces, I’d push for such an agenda to have the 2 groups and their foot soldiers be used for greatly different purposes.
So the Inquisitors would be general purpose like the Jedi were during the Clone Wars, with Purge Troopers being their personal Clone Units around 20 or 30 strong like we saw in that Vader Comic.
Meanwhile,Shadow Guard would be for hunting Jedi specifically, and would ave ShadowTroopers at their disposal as well, tho they wouldn’t always be together, more like have them on stand by unless the Shadow Guard needed help. (and taking care of the emperor in places were Jedi often were)
That is literally disruptive to the Rule of Two and that will just give them .ore power and ideas to stand up to Vader and Palpatine.
Shadow Guard > Inquisitors simply because the guard was palpatine’s contingency for if the inquisitors ever betrayed him.

Inquisitors were actually first i think the Shadow Guard was simply created as mini bosses for Force Unleashed (what was unnecessary was the Retcon of the Inquisitors as well the Overall Retcon anyway)
I always kinda of thought the Inquisitors were a joke, and didn't find them all that threatening through the rebels series and Darth Vader comics. Which made me unhappy to find out they were the replacements for the Shadowguard.

Shadow guards by a mile, in old canon thau litary stood a chance against galen marek (my fave old canon character, fuck i wish disney would bring a verson of him back in new canon) a fucking op force user (with terrible lightsaber skills tho) and not only that thay can do it by themself instead of needing a group like the inquisitors, also in comic the inquisitors were proven to be very incompetent to say the least
