I haven't had an iPad in a while and no I'm not at all new to computers gnu to Computers, I found it so relaxing to use this UA-cam.I am a senior after all, and it was nice to hear one of my own, speak at a comfortable speed and manner.
This series is brilliant thank you Rick for explaining everything so clearly for a 90 year old. I used to be quite smart on the computer at least I thought I was but so many tips do you have given makes everything easier thank you
Things you can do with Siri: Hey Siri - Call (has to be in your contacts so if your trying to call a specific person, you have to say their specific name) Hey Siri - Set a timer for (you say how many hours and minutes, or together) Hey Siri - Remind to (you tell Siri what you want it to remind you about, to do etc) Hey Siri - “Open” (App name) it has to be an app that you have installed and you can’t tell Siri however to download something Hey Siri - Play (Music piece) if your iPad has music you’ve purchased, you can tell Siri to play the songs without going to the music app. Hey Siri - find my iPhone - if it knows your iPhones settings specifically as in you’ve signed in to Apples AppStore via both devices, the memory the iPad has is the understanding that your phone is one of your devices you’ve involved with a computer, you’ve signed into Apple with and such. Hey Siri - open maps (it can pull up its own Earth viewer from the Maps app itself which isn’t a hidden feature but is a easy thing to rely on also, so you won’t have to look up Google earth for example. Hey Siri “look up”, “Who”, “Where”, “What” questions like hey Siri look up - siri will open safari and find what your telling it to search for. By saying things like who, where or what, it will depend on what you ask suri, so you want to speak clearly as well as you want to speak slowly so siri doesn’t mess up understanding you, so try to ask suri something generally calmly, not to fast though. Ie: Hey Siri, where is Jupiter?
Wow Rich...this is great stuff. I am 70 and just started with an iPad 9th Gen that the kids got me. I watched a few of the tech reviews to try and get up to speed on the devices use. None were as clear and simple as yours. I certainly liked and subscribed and hope you keep these informative videos coming. Thank you.
Thanks! I cringe when I look at some of my older videos. There really is a lot of work to get things to look and sound good. My video equipment is a lot better than before. Still, the older videos can be helpful. Thanks so much for watching!
Hi Rich I purchased a iPad 9th Generation and have a basic idea on using it. I’ve had a iPad mini 4 and I upgraded it to this one. Thanks for the tips and I’ll check out your other videos too
Great! I hope they help you in some useful way. I have a lot of fancy iPads but I use the 9th gen all the time. Honestly, it's the real bang for the buck.
Love your sessions for us Seniors. I have learned a real lots of tips and so far has made it totally “fun”. Honest!! I am so-o fascinated with the computers, phones and I-pads and you have made this very enjoyable for me…. I have come a long way in learning. Thank you so-o much…😄🤩
Thanks for the video. Really I knew these trips, but it’s always useful to hear them again. Then you speak so clearly and it’s a pleasure to hear you. My language is not English and sometimes it’s hard to understand videos.
Rich, thank you! I just bought an Ipad Air 4th generation for my 94 year old mother, not knowing there was no home button. Old habits are hard to break.
I was following your video and when I went to the “Today View” I noticed I had abKindle book that I mistakenly ordered. Lol. I didn’t know it was there until I opened it. It’s a good book, so that’s a good thing. I learn so much from you. Thank you.
Thank you Rich for showing more good tips. If it’s possible I would like to see how to use safari search engine for better results etc. Also some tips on how to use the split screen correctly. Thank you again for your excellent tips it took me a couple of re runs get it.
Loved this video, thanks! Questions: Where do I find info about Control Centre? How do you find and choose the photos on your screen (left side, scroll in or out)? Thanks, more questions next time I view your video! Itbtakes time to learn! Elisabeth.
Incredible: no step , no instruction that you gave worked for more than one level. My iPad was right next to my laptop. I duplicated your touch screen instructions exactly and repeatedly. Nothing happened for more than a single instruction more than once. this makes your computer instructions better than average.
Hmm... I wonder of you have a different version of the operating system. Thanks for the heads-up. In future videos I'll mention that if things look differently on your iPad you may need to update your software (and then show how to do it!).
At least you are using the 1st IPad instead of an IPad mini, or the Air or the Pro which some features we would not have. So thank you for that. This is the only device I have that is an Apple, so when I get on this which is not very often, you can get lost real fast and forget where things are.
I like the base iPad - even though I have the more expensive fancy iPads. Yeah, if you dont pick up your iPad very often, it feels like you're learning things all over again. But at least it's not to hard to get the hang of. Thanks for watching!
My wife, litteraly, has no fingerprints. It's very frustrating for her to have to put in her code for both iPhone and iPad. The same thing happened at the airport when we went to get our recognized flyer, or whatever they call it, acceptance. The lady processing my wife became so frustrated she almost gave up. Finally, it worked.
I lost mine when I got Covid March 2020. 4 1/2 years later they haven’t come back. I’ve since found out it is a fairly common side effect from the alpha strain of Covid. Weird.
Trying to convince my mom to use an iPad JUST for FaceTime and photos, and perhaps a few widgets for the train schedule. If I succeed I'll use a label machine to indicate where to swipe. It all looks doable if someone sets it up to only show what she needs to see. How large can you make these icons? If there are only 3 or 4 I'd prefer them coin sized.
If you're on iOS 14 you can line up a few widgets in today view. Plus you can always "hide" the app icons in a folder, leaving only the icons on the home screen you want your mom to use. Thanks for watching!
I can’t reduce my cable bill and the company, Xfinity is ignoring my calls asking for assistance regarding why my monthly bills have increased to over $400.00 per month. Do you have any suggestions regarding this situation?
Sorry you lost your email icon. It may be there, though. You can swipe left or right on your screen to find icons. If it did get deleted, you can always add it back from the App store. Just tap on the App Store icon and type in the search bar "email." Hopefully, you'll see your email application and can install it again. Hope this helps!
I'm planing a video series on a number of iPad accessories including the Apple Pencil. It's pretty awesome. Stay tuned and thanks so much for watching.
It depends on the email program you're using, but just don't delete them. They'll stay in your inbox for later reading until you move them to another folder or finally delete them.
Great
Job Rich. I am 92yrs. I like to learn about my new IPad with your videos.
Thanks! So glad they're helping you out.

Made a difference between whether to get an ipad or not. Now I will. And thanks for not talking at the speed of light.
You're welcome. I'll be starting a new series on the iPad soon!
This series is brilliant thank you Rick for explaining everything so clearly for a 90 year old. I used to be quite smart on the computer at least I thought I was but so many tips do you have given makes everything easier thank you
These are great, Rich. They are going to be a big help Mom, whom we gave an iPad for her 90th birthday.
Thanks! My mom watched it and said I talked too fast! I guess I'll slow the pace down on the next video.
I am a senior and I like the fact that you kept it quite simple!
Glad to help!

I like that you don’t rush, you give me time to take in what you explained
Thanks so much. I really do try to keep it simple and not fly through every tip so quickly.
You're the Mr Rodgers of iPad videos. :-)
Ha! My wife would disagree. But I take that as a compliment!
I have used an iPad for years but learned so much from this video. Thanks for sharing.

to me you passed the most vital lesson. How does one link/set up an ipad to the internet. a long with service provider.
Great suggestion. There are so many different internet providers with different setups. But honestly, most are pretty similar. Thanks for watching.

Any idea how to use an iPad with the VAMC?
