    I've loved This show since the beginning in 98. As a child that suffered abuse in every form: physical, mental, verbal and sexual. I Loved watching a show in which some sort of justice was served, most of the time. The fact that justice wasn't always achieved only made it more realistic to me. I wish and hope we have actual good police officer and detectives like I see portrayed by Benson and Munch etc.

    • @thatonegaybitch1811
      @thatonegaybitch1811 Рік тому +4

      completely. take it from someone not yet out of their teens who went through the same types of abuse, I turned to these shows as soon as I was allowed access to the internet. it’s a way to cope with what was happening by watching people get what’s coming to them. when I was younger I hoped the same thing would happen to my abusers, but it never has, and I doubt it will. now that I’m older I understand how unfair our system is in real life.
      I think there should be psychological studies on why victims turn to these shows so much. looking into all the possible coping mechanisms it provides. and also how many of those coping mechanisms might be unhealthy.

    It so sad watching these old clips, seeing that they had four or five detectives, plus Cragen. Now it's just Benson, Finn, Rollins, and a new guy who might be a spy. SVU is probably one of the most successful daytime shows on now and the producers cheap out on cast.

    Watching an old episode today, I realized something, Stabler and Benson often accuse the wrong person at the beginning of most episodes (usually it is Benson)and they never apologize to the wrongly accused for doing so. Then when they do get the bad guy they are celebrated, all the while they wrongly accused someone at the beginning. In some episodes, they ruin the wrongly accused's life. That's f'd up that this show doesn't address that...they sweep it away much like an actual police dept. does. Makes me not want to watch anymore. I look at the show much differently now.

    • @spiritseeker3259

      For sure I’m a new watcher of the show and your criticism is 100 percent right, also there’s a bit of police brutality for whatever reason. And some of that is towards wrongly accused individuals as well. It really is upsetting

    • @StellaHershman24
      @StellaHershman24 3 роки тому +55

      I, too look at the show a bit differently now. I used to love Stabler and root for him and Benson to get together, but rewatching the show has made me view Stabler with disgust. He's so brutal to people he thinks are the perp, and he becomes the judge and jury without looking at other possible leads. He picks and chooses when to show leniency, and it's ridiculous. How he kept his job after revealing he fantasizes about killing suspects is beyond me. The writers have also allowed Olivia to worsen her victim blindspot by believing so-called victims and never considering they would be lying. They ruined a music teacher's life because they accepted such an easy case with evidence that was practically handed to them because those little boys and their sisters couldn't possibly have been lying. I was relieved he didn't soften to them with their poor attempt at an apology, especially since all those girls got was probation.

    I have a general question that's been nagging at me. Am I the only one who doesn't like the characters Stabler and Benson?
    I mean the show is good. The writing is good but to paraphrase Citizen Kane "they aren't bad people, they just do bad things". They break the law regularly, forced entry, breaking and entry, they both lie like rugs to the innocent and the guilty. Stabler likes to commit battery, Benson likes to cajole victims into testifying promising support that you know doesn't come. I wonder if anyone has done a death count on people she has convinced to "do the right thing".
    I appreciate that they "catch the bad buy", but they are also bad guys, in episodes where they are particularly egregious I find myself rooting for the bad guy. In episodes where they've tramples someone who is innocent (or relatively so) I want to hear about the lawsuit they NEED.
    If I thought this show was remotely realistic I would sign up for defund the police. Maybe this show has a lot to do with that movement.

      It's a fictional show. It's a drama. The nuisances of the show don't line up with real life because it's a show. A fictional drama where they take a lot of liberties for entertainment purposes. It's not that serious. It's for entertainment, just like Grey's anatomy and House MD, who take a lot of liberties when it comes to the field of medicine. That's why they are fictional shows. The show is meant to make you question the characters, which provides more interest in the show and investment. Benson and Stabler are great characters because they are so complex. That's what makes them a great team and major team with SVU. If you don't like the show bc it's not realistic, why watch it? Just to get yourself mad. No one, I mean no one has ever said, they dislike Benson and staplers characters bc they don't line up with the reality of the police and its many flaws in real life. You're forgetting it's a fictional drama. However, they always call attention to issues and cases that happen or happen in reality, so I tip my hat off to that. It's important that all of this be brought to light. If this isn't for you, it's ok.
