I grew up lower class and have usually struggled with shit, but this year alone, I became a store manager for the first time, I got married, I'm about to give birth to my first child, and I'm aiming to study what I can while I'm on maternity leave so I can further develop a stronger and higher paying career once I go back to work so I can get a little closer to the life I've always dreamed of having.

I appreciate your content, Why do you care so much about how we think about ourselves? The issue is political, our agency has been cut by 30 years of neoliberal reform (such as those conducted by your beloved Hawke-Keating government in the 90's who replaced industrial accords with enterprise barganing agreements). So many people in Oz have insecure work and a lack of wage protections. Mental health, not entirely but in the main, is a political issue! We should not aim to merely dig ourselves out of a hole by being employed and exploiting other people but by ending the system of exploitation itself!

You can easily devalue anyone and any industry, regardless of success levels. My point is, it's kinda fucked to impose your judgement on other people as if there aren't hundreds of elementary school lunch ladies doing exactly what they love to do and feel fulfilled doing. Hah yeah. My position didn't pay like shit however, while it was something worth acheiveing for a better world, the reality is that most people don't actually want to fix things. Change is cause for discomfort. In the case of my work, people were way more caught up desiring a subclass of people they can see on the news and feel disgusted over, then outrage, then the final dose of dopamine when they get to see these people destroyed. A class of people it is socially acceptable to feel superior to. A class of people anyone can become part of in one bad incident, but every thinks they can't because they see themselves as, at least, not actively bad people. The worst part? Almost no one doing this is aware of it. You, or someone you know, is, and it is making the world worse.
There is no heroic one man army that can change anything either. It requires concerted effort of a very significant portion of the population. I mean, we have seen the biggest gains in progress there in the past 15 years. You know why? Because over a 1/4 of white, middle class to wealthy, people are now being affected it. So NOW it's "oh maybe we shouldn't create a profit incentive to put people into prison and push them into slavery, and worse". Even considering this, there are still an enormous amount of people who will fight any progress because everyone else can get fucked. Just like before, these people too, are largely unaware of they are doing this.
Just throwing your well being into a meat grinder. No one who has spent more than 5 years in the system is actually mentally healthy anymore.

I think its a bit o u. T o f t o u c h to claim its just the phone creating issues for genz. In school, the upper half of genz didn't get a phone until highschool, until around the 2010s when it became more socially acceptable to do so.

The hell happened to you? I used to love your stuff then it stopped showing up in my feed. This is my first time seeing you in what feels like years and you're on some "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" bullshit? "Don't blame the system, don't let the system dictate the rules of your life." That's kind of how societal systems work. This is some, "The Secret" shit.
