The End of an Era: The Last Run of the Roadrailers

On Saturday, August 24th, 2024, NS roadrailer train #256 makes its last run down the Lafayette district as an amazing era of the roadrailers comes to an end. Followed by this train is #255 which is also making its last revenue run in the opposite direction. #255 should be running on August 25th as an equipment move as the last roadrailer we will ever see. Nickel Plate Road heritage unit 8100 was leading the last #256 as we see in this video located in Tolono, IL. Enjoy the video.

I'm glad NS 8100 got to pull the final NS 256. I wasn't able to see it as it left KC at 2am-ish, hence why I never bothered to look for RoadRailers after 2014. NS discontinued all of them except these two in 2015, and I'm surprised 255 and 256 last nine years longer
