Back in the day this was the highest rated upright vacuum cleaner in consumer reports. It was then replaced by the Kenmore Intuition and now it's mechanically identical to the Kenmore Elite upright. It's amazing how many of these old Kenmore Progressive intelliclean uprights are still in use even after being discontinued well over a decade ago.
We have this same model. It did not seem to suck enough so I disassembled it. This sucker...:)... is really well made. The direct drive motor, on the roller, is "solid" with two brushes similar to a car's starter motor spring-loaded against the motor. You can even buy them for about $10, but mine appear to be new, with very little signs of wear. I swear we have had this vacuum for almost 20 years and it still works. When I re-assembled it, it appears to have solved the issue. It was really dirty ! :) I have never replaced the HEPA filter, so I vacuumed it out with our small canister vacuum. It looks really clean. I was going to buy a brand new vacuum, but I think we will keep this for now. The only downside is that it is "heavy" - what a workout !! A little exercise is good for you !!
I’m so glad I came across this video! I just bought this exact vacuum at an estate sale. I probably paid 1 cent for it because it was EVERYTHING YOU CAN FIT IN A BOX FOR $1) 😂 Thanks for sharing
It was originally sold with not only the telescoping wand but with the additional extension wand and a separate horsehair floor tool. This was the flagship of the Kenmore line.
Still have mine and the motor just burned out. In now in search of a replacement motor. But it lasted for a while. Not so long ago the brush would stop n go at times and still happens. Not sure why yet?
I found one of these today at a local goodwill shop for $12 and it works great. Just needed some cleaning and a new bag. However, I cannot figure out how to remove the bottom to clean around the brush roll? Did you attempt to do that as I took out every screw on the bottom and still couldn't get it apart?
I am a 2nd owner to this vacuum. All looks the same but mine doesn’t have the bag - it’s a canister. My roller isn’t roller as noted on the body, it’s belt less. Does this probably mean the motor has died for the roller?
The cleaning lady at my work uses one of those the only thing she hates about it is that it is clunky I hope when she gets ride of it she will give it to me.

You can get a bag kit w filter on Amazon. It's a really good deal. I buy it once a year
They are great, last long time because Panasonic made them. My Panasonic is 24 years young.

Definitely líder than mine. That extension is for the bare floor attachment. I used it all of the time. Motor just burned out. I hope I can fix it!
I got one of those at a Thirft Store in great shape just loaded down with long hair on the brushroll. It turned into one of my favorite machines.
Have the same one, when first released it was up there in the consumer rating charts.
Can you post a video showing how to replace the brush roller please? Thank you.
I wish I could but I don’t have it anymore it was my teachers so I had to give it back to her
Would really be more helpful than just a review of the machine to show how it comes apart.
Can you please do a video on the bissell powerforce compact
carlos Zuniga34 yes when I have the time
Richard Bilot ok 😄
That's one of my dream Kenmores other then the original purple one. Great high end machines.
What does the original purple look like? is it the progressive 100 series? Or is it the bagless one?
A link if could find one would be great.
The first gen 1999 one
@@YoumuHoover I see, for some reason I don't like the look of those ones but they do look futuristic and all. It's neat. And they have good power too.
@@YoumuHoover That's what i have with belt drive. I don't like this direct drive stuff.
I got one and it smells bad I got it from the thrift store I gotta get new bags

Yeah that’s what I had to do so I could get access the bottom

I know there was some that didn’t have a motor some used a belt
I have this vacuum and it constantly clogs. I haven't found an easy way to unclog it short of taking it apart. Any suggestions?
If it’s the hose I would take it off of the vacuum and take a broom stick and try to push out the clog
Hey! I know this is old but do you know if this vaccum works on tile flooring well?
Yes it does
How to change the direct drive..dude
I honestly don’t know how you do it but I imagine that it’s a pain to do
Is the hepa filter washable?
No it’s not

Did you ever get to at least blowing out the fan? an air compressor would fix the howling.
No sadly I couldn’t get to the fan
This one says beltless
Oh then maybe the Motor did go out on it but there’s a brush roll a reset button on top of the floor head
Do you know how much this model weighs, by any chance?
I don’t know sadly
@@richardbilot608 no worries! Thanks.
@@katierobichaud8959 Lots, pretty heavy but a superior vacuum
Why does this vacuum sound like a plane starting up? 😂
Ryan Thomas I really don’t know
🤣
