Lol study a little more. Italy after WWII was basically full of money because of Marshall Plan, and it keep growin' until becoming 4th more powerful country in the world in 1987.
@Alistair Bolden The US still has a large amount of infantry. There is no moving away from infantry, that's just nonsense. We haven't gotten a new tank because we upgrade old ones. While the US does invest a lot in air superiority, it invests in a lot of categories.
It would make more sense to portray this as military spending as a % of each country's GDP, to truly show their motivations. It will be warped if it's just 'total spending' as richer nations are bound to spend a lot more.
That's the thing. Russia is spending more than U.S in 1980's but that's shooting itself in the foot economically because it's significantly higher part of GDP than Americas spending is.
Why do you think rich nations should spend more in absolute no.'s . US is 3rd in population by a large margin and 1st in millitary spendings by large margin.why should a nation with lower population spend more than otherd. It just showa US loves wars .

The US military's budget is high because, frankly, being good at researching stars does nothing for your country when it's being trampled by enemy troops. Given that the US has to effectively carry the Western world on its back militarily, it makes sense that this fact is reflected in the amount of military spending the US commits to.
