Now that doesn't sound too staggering until you realize that the entire population of the country at the time was about 4.3 mil. So in % that's about 13% of the population going to war, lol. To put that into nowadays perspective, Ukraine has a population of over 43 million with active personnel of about 700k. Then during WW1 Bulgaria raised about 800k soldiers as well. x)
