Please keep sharing your messages. I've been away from the church for many years. I was excommunicated in 1979 when I was about 19. I fell into deep immoral sins that I have lived with since that time. I'm 64 now. Your messages are actually penetrating my old heart. This has happened in quite a while. Your love for the Book of Mormon and the church is exhilarating. Thank you so much! May Heavenly Father bless you abundantly for your channel.

John, I am so very impressed by your comments. I've thought about it all day, at least since you wrote it. I believe there is a special place in the heart of the Lord for the person who recognizes his faults and struggles for a lifetime to overcome them. Some of the people I love the most are individuals who have gone down this path. The pain they suffer, if they are truly sincere in their desire to overcome, is excruciating and unimaginable to those who don't suffer their spiritual handicap. As a very young bishop in the 1960s it was necessary to excommunicate a young woman because of her inability to overcome a critical sin. I hope I'm not at fault for saying that a few years later when I was a bishop again in another ward and city a letter came from the president of the twelve apostles who was praying over whether it would be best at that time for her to be readmitted into membership. I noticed the poorly placed lettering on the letter (from an old non-electric typewriter) and knew it was not typed by a stenographer but by the apostle himself (who was later President of the Church). I know he wrote such private letters himself. Later came a phone call; he was struggling to do the right thing for her and her alone. He never met her but I felt his intense love for her as a struggling sinner. Critics have absolutely no idea of the love and fasting and prayer that the prophets engage in to find the Lord's answer to these kinds of needs. That ignorance and abuse is so deplorable and sad. Please take heart and know you are very, very special to God and to Christ. You have never been forgotten for an instant. God bless you.

Thank you for considering it. There are so many things like this. Fifty years ago I wrote out a list of 1,000 things that appeared to give credence to the Book of Mormon. At the time I assumed that some of them would fade with time and some would eventually be shown to literally be false. The list is long lost but I know of none of those factors that have diminished in significance. This is remarkable to me but not proof. The only proof comes from the Spirit of God.

When you add that the Caraters Document was written in Hieratic and Demotic Egyptian and Yucatecan Mayan characters, using ancient Hebrew grammar, you have a problem for those trying to prove Joseph Smith Jr. a fraud. Especially with the characters forming actual sentences about people and events in The Book Of Mormon, even though the text isn't found in our Book Of Mormon. That just means it came from the lost pages of translation, which makes it even earlier. And because it dates earlier, that puts it well before anything was published about Mayan culture and artifacts, let alone enough to use characters from a small area in Mesoamerica correctly. And now you have added an ancient Hebraic writing style that wasn't even identified until 1952 or 6, I forget the exact year, but well over a hundred years after The Book Of Mormon was first published or even revised to match the King James Version of the Bible.

The Caractors Document does not fit the description given by Prof Anthon, so it is not likely the Anthon Transcript. However, Wade Brown's chiastic analysis is brilliant and very useful.

Right, the actual Anthon Transcript contained not only Book of Mormon characters from the plates, but also had an English translation with it, and Anthon had indicated the translation provided was correct. However, this is certainly another transcription of characters from the plates and it is quite interesting that a chiastic structure can be seen in them.

This is an incredible find. I never took the Caractors document too seriously since it likely isn't an original copy of the characters on the plates, however even if this is a copy of a copy of a copy there is very clearly a chiastic structure that managed to get preserved!
Many of the characters in this document look similar to the original (cursive) Cherokee script. This curly, cursive script would've been pretty hard to engrave on metal plates. A lot of the scripts in southern Asia are curly because they were originally writing on palm leaves that would tear if the writing was too angular. Contrast that with the more angular Roman character set with all those serifs in stone.
If the characters really did look close to how they look in the Caractors document, then the awkwardness of Moroni's hands (Ether 12:24) would be a perfectly valid complaint. LOL. I'd get carpal tunnel myself trying to finesse those curves with a chisel. If I had to guess, the original characters probably looked more angular and even seriffed.
Linguistically the Book of Mormon is incredibly complex and with the Spirit we'll keep striking oil. I hope you don't stop uploading these finds. more reasons to love the good book. תודה רבה

Wonderful question! With things as monumental as the Book of Mormon there come to be many stories and representations of what might have been or what are purported to be artifacts from the event. So it is that there are differing documents or papers claimed to be authentic, such as the Anthon transcript or Characters Document. It is therefore significant when one has within it some evidence or suggestion of identity. This is one of the points of the parallel poetry found in the document shown here which aligns with the identical type inverted parallel or chiastic poems discussed in this video. The finding of such forms seems to suggest that this is the "real thing." But it is not absolute proof in itself.

      @fingerprintsoneverypage  6 місяців тому +1

That is an excellent question; why haven't we sent the document to the University of Chicago? In fact, someone probably has or someone will. The problem is that the last author in the book, Moroni, explained that the language that he and others wrote in had been changed from its Egyptian source. (Mormon 9:32) There would surely be some trace elements but it might not be that easy. Some students of Egyptian languages have worked on translation of the document but I don't believe there has yet been a concensus in their interpretations. Good thought!

Very interesting information. I really appreciate your research. However I want point something out that you night find interesting, or perhaps you may want to show me where I am wrong. I have come to realize that virtually all prophecies have a dual fulfillment.
One is a vague, shadow fulfillment that may not be completely congruent with the prophecy although some of the elements are quite similar.
The second fulfillment is the literal fulfillment which matches up perfectly with the prophecy.
I would suggest to you that the event with Martin Harris and Professor Anton was only a shadow fulfillment of the "sealed book" prophecy.
First of all, the "Marvelous Work" which is referenced by name in about 14 different passages in the Bible, Book of Mormon and Doctrine and Covenants did not take place during Joseph Smiths ministry in the 1800's. It is still a future event. I am sure you are very well aware of that and also ware of how problematic the storyline is in 2nd Nephi 27 relative to past events.

Thank you for your comment. I don't know. It seems as though there are multiple meanings and depths of meanings within many scriptural passages. Right now so many come to mind. And sadly, we are readers and believers end up debating the "correct" meaning as we see it. Again, passage after passage flashes in my mind but in many I just don't know enough to say with any authority. I find it best to keep my mouth unopened and wait for the answer.

Matt, I don't know who wrote it or how it came to be. I wouldn't risk my life on it. I personally don't have confidence in Professor Anthon's description of the document because of his general attitude concerning Joseph Smith, the restoration or his meeting with Martin Harris. His memory of it or the transmission of his memory is questionable, even suspect, to me. Had he seen representations of the Egyptian symbols pertaining to the Book of Abraham? It seems to be associated with Joseph Smith and has symbols on it that are odd to us but found in advertisements used to promote the sale of the first edition of the Book of Mormon. It also seems to have repetition of symbols which are characteristic of Hebrew parallelism. Do you think it might be the fraudulent work of anti-Mormonism to disrupt the work, or the idle scribbling of some believing person during the life of the prophet? Or could it be the work of an early saint who felt inspired to duplicate the real document? It has to be someone's creation and have some purpose. I am open to your thoughts and I respect your viewpoint. What do you feel it might be?

Robert, yes it does, basically. Verification? What do you mean, peer reviewed or academically approved? A few years after the book was published a very fine scholar published his text on the same subject and his book has become the standard. I've thought about a video on the subject because I've spent years advancing my own thoughts. Don't plan to ever publish it but it might be interesting to show parts if anyone is interested. It isn't approached as traditional stone cut cold word parallels but strangely, as almost a music form. For me creates a beautifully fluid melodic experience rather than a series of unattached mechanical blocks and borders. That idea would ruin it for everyone to consider but I finally realized that personally it is not just a traditional academic series of diagrams and numbers. For me it is a "Divine Symphony in Words." The patterns and rhythms ring in my ears. In reading the text I sometimes feel as though I am back in a violin section playing classic music. I love to see and hear and feel the patterns, the rhythms, the melodies, the points and counter points. I think and hope it has an eternal element to it. Hope I haven't said too much.
