Description:
Raw food author and chef Jennifer Cornbleet shares how to prepare garden vegetable soup, especially good for lunch. From her DVD, Raw Food Made Easy.
In this video, Jennifer Cornbleet shows how to use your knife and blender to create a simple, but satisfying raw soup.
Before getting down to a specific recipe, Jennifer details the six basic components that go into every raw soup. This will allow you to mix and whatever ingredients you have in your refrigerator and 'improvise' your way to a delicious soup.
• Watery greens or vegetables (such as tomatoes) for easy blending
• Water to thin out the vegetables
• Citrus juice to perk up the flavor
• A salty seasoning (salt or miso)
• Pungent seasonings (herbs, spices, onion, garlic, etc.)
• Fat (such as avocado or olive oil) to make the soup creamy
Then Jennifer walks you step-by-step through an actual soup preparation featuring unpeeled zucchini, celery, spinach, fresh basil, tomato, lemon juice, salt, miso, water, garlic, and green onion.
You'll even discover the best order to add your veggies to the blender to ensure that everything combines properly and find out why you should wait until the very end of the blending process to add avocado.
A raw, light, and healthy Garden Vegetable Soup is a perfect way to get more vegetables into your diet and a nice change of pace from a lunchtime salad.

I just made this… I used tahini instead of miso, and i used powdered garlic instead of garlic cloves, and i added a dash of raw apple cider vinegar instead of lemon (these are just the things i had on hand). I added 5 green scallions, instead of just one, and 4 tablespoons of hemp seeds, to get in some more omega 3s, along with the half of an avocado. Also some nutritional yeast and ground pepper. Everything else, I stuck to your ingredients. It is amazing!! Definitely will be having this more often.
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that uses recipe videos as a template or inspiration instead of exactly duplicating them! Sometimes it's critical, but usually it's flexible. I never have the same ingredients on hand and try to use up what's in the fridge before it declines, I despise wasting food! Also, sometimes personal taste or finances excludes some ingredients, but I love all the amazing ideas! Going to whip this up right now!
@@CharGC123 I do this so much it's a bit ridiculous lol. But...I felt compelled to share a few staple blended soups that I have on this diet, in case you were looking for a few. If you're anything like me, blended soups with greens in them seem to be one of the most healing things you can eat in this way of life - and so as I was reading your comment, I thought... hmmm maybe I should share a few of my current recipes with you, in case that's what you were on the hunt for. So, if not, then just discard this information, but if so... then I hope you enjoy these recipes! I personally love them!
Cream of celery soup
1 cup celery (roughly chopped)
1 cup of arugula
1/4 cup hemp seeds
1/2 garlic clove or garlic powder
1/2 cup water
1/2 to 1 teaspoon sea salt
1/2 cup celery (finely chopped) (reserve to add ontop of soup - do not blend)
1/4 or 1/2 avocado
blend
splash of lemon juice added after soup is blended - for taste
Basil Tomato Veggie Delight Soup
3 cups chopped organic tomatoes
1 cup chopped organic carrots
2 garlic cloves
1/4 of a large white onion
2 stalks organic celery
1/3rd of a red bell pepper (including seeds)
1 and 1/2 cups purified water
1 handful of basil leaves fresh
1 avocado
1.5 cups of parsley
1.5 cups of arugula (or two)
sea salt to taste
1 tablespoon of coconut aminos
small dash of cayenne pepper powder
1/4 or so of a lemon with peel and seeds
blend all ingredients
Cilantro Parsley Healing Green Soup
1 medium to large tomato
1/2 a medium lemon with seeds and peel
2 celery stalks
1 medium cucumber
1 to 1.5 cups of arugula
1.5 cups of cilantro
1.5 cups of parsley
6 to 7 green onions or scallions or more (depending on your taste)
1 avocado
sea salt to taste
dash of cayenne pepper
1 tablespoon of garlic powder
2 cups of water
blend
Mock V-8 Blend
2 cups of spinach
1 medium or large carrot
1 or 2 medium tomatoes
2 tablespoons of tomato powder or 2 to 3 sundried tomatoes
1/4 to 1/2 a lemon without peel
1 to 2 large celery stalks
1 tablespoon of italian seasoning
3 cups of water
sea salt to taste
fresh ground pepper to taste
blend
you can add a small amount of beets to this and/or red bell pepper as well, depending on your taste - but it's fine without it as well!
and you can add a small dash of cayene pepper if you want to spice it up as well - depending on your mood/taste
(this recipe is best served in a glass with ice... it tastes oddly so much better when very cold) :)
@@IdiomofSad Wow, thanks, great ideas! We can never get too many fresh veggies, but salads can be a chore with a wonky jaw and missing teeth! Also, being on a fixed income with these food prices is a huge challenge too! And I LOVE arugula but it is so hard to find around here. I've tried growing it myself along with other things, but it just bolts here in the hot FL climate... so I grow some acclimated tropicals instead (moringa, chaya, katuk, etc), forage the wild things, and grow a lot of sprouts inside! lol I'm a weirdo who was never a fan of sweet smoothies, but these really appeal to me.
@@CharGC123 I am sure you could probably use any kind of green really, that you desire. I prefer blended raw soups over salads as well, though sometimes nothing compares to a salad - blended is so much easier and i feel like my body absorbs the nutrients better as well.
I'm so glad they're useful to you!! I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!!
@@CharGC123 by the way, i'm not a fan of sweet smoothies either! so i completely 'get it' ;)
Ha! I made this for breakfast (I prefer savory dishes in the morning and sweeter dishes in the evening, however bad that may be.). I varied it slightly here and there and used what I had on hand, but with the addition of lime, salt and avocado I could eat this every day. It was a cool, summer soup.
Thank you, Jennifer, for sharing these prized recipes and ideas!
I became 90% raw about 3 weeks ago and I'm convinced that this is how we should all be eating. I still eat meat, but in very modest quantites (never more than 200 grams at a time, and no red). I also eat no dairy products or refined starches.
There is something more "human" about this diet. I was a lover of cooked food and always ate very healthily, but the difference in how I feel eating raw is astounding. I have more energy and a clearer mind.
Thank you for teaching the basics! This is probably the most important part and you covered it very nicely. I’ll make sure to remember your tips whenever I make raw soups. Sending you lots of love and gratitude for the inspiration 🥰
Jennifer, you're the best. Positive vibes sent your way!
Just tried this today and I'm in love with it. It reminds me of V8 and it's perfect for fall but is still appropriate for summer season. Definitely with be adding this into my diet during the upcoming fall season.
This video set was the first what I used to start preparing my raw food dishes 14 years ago. This soup was delicious!
That raw soup is a great idea for work. Easy to carry, not bulky. Yet loaded with goodies. Thank you !!! 😃👍
I love your recipes. I have two of your recipe books and would love to get more. I'm so glad you're on UA-cam because I really enjoy watching food videos. I wish I would have thought to look for you on UA-cam sooner as I've had and used your recipe books for years. Thank you so much for sharing. 😃
+Jeannie Appelhof Thanks so much Jeannie, such lovely words! Are you enjoying any recipes in particular?

Your very welcome Jennifer. Yes, there are many recipes I really enjoy and have made more than once. The tropical ambrosia tart is wonderful. The walnut pate especially in the tomato stacks keeps me making more. Love the spring rolls with the mock peanut sauce. Oh, and the carrots with the Moroccan spices, yum. There are more but I think you get the idea. Thanks again for creating these great recipes. 🍝🍷

I can't wait until I move out of my college dorm and into an apartment this summer so I can get my diet where I want it to be! This looks so easy and yummy.
+Sierra Hatfield Sounds good Sierra! Hope you enjoy the recipes.
Awh! I never noticed that at all. Oh well, we all see what we see. I am making her garden vegetable soup tonight. Much obliged. I see a job well done.
Great sharing! May I ask where you purchased those wonderful glass jars?
Much appreciation. :)
If only most of us added meals like this to our diet. Can't wait to try this.
Let me know what you think!
Great idea! I like soup more than salad.
Nice
I found many brand name. which one is yours? thank you so much
soaked nuts and seeds taste delious!
Dearest Jennifer- you are AMAZING!
Can not wait for some more recipes... Do you have any that use primarily soaked grains and nuts???Something yummy?
Thank you..
Thank you Jane!
Yes! One of my favorite recipes with soaked nuts is Not Tuna Pate. www.learnrawfood.com/recipes/comments/not_tuna_pate And an oatmeal with soaked whole oat groats.
good day, congratulations on the presentation. I learned that one should not mix lemon with tomatoes, why do it? is not incompatible to mix these two acids?
Thank you
And im just curious - what for are those two large stoves behind You? :D
Also, because I haven't seen a comment that says so, Jennifer you are so georgeous.
I want to try this sometime soon. Is there enough protein to have it as a complete meal?
what blender are you using in this video?
Maam. I hope your still doing ok..This teaching video was done so long ago. I'm learning raw food for family health issues. I hope n pray your still around. 👍🤠🤔
Hi, Jennifer
I've just watched your video and subscribed.I was wondering what blender you're using? I like how it has a glass carafe and seems powerful.
Hi Carmen, It's a Kitchenaid blender--my favorite one next to the Vitamix.
Hi Jennifer, could you tell me the name of the blender you're using, please?
Jennifer all the recipes of your DVDs and course are that fast to do?.
I'm looking for raw recipes because I don't want to lose time cooking.
THIS SOUP IS OUSTANDING FAST AND HEALTHY!!
Thanks for your work.
Thank you!
@eldrama2 Congrats on your back pain being gone. I am in the same boat as you. I am in the same boat as you..It has been about 2 weeks as well..I did include some cooked vegan because I had a hard time going 100 % raw..I eat nuts and seeds, sprouts, seaweeds, raw nut butters, raw honey, fruits, veggies..I have tried the soup..didn't go down okay, next time I think I will some spices I like to make it taste better..Good luck
Did the blender heat it or cold?
I have a vitamix blender, so I'm wondering weather to blend the ingredients cold or use the soup setting which will heat it up. Thanks.
Microwave
I love almost everything what you made however, I prefer not use anything made of tofu nor wheat. Is there anything substitute for miso? Thanks. I would like to buy your book. I will go to amazon. com. Thank you very much..
I love your videos! Thank you!
nic video
what was the blender brand called.
You could also use veggie stock instead of water for a bolder flavor
@eldrama2 right now it's winter, so can't do the soup..I miss my warm/hot food. In the summer I can do the soups etc..Right now I have included vegan cooked food, like steamed veggies and steamed potatoes. I think I will do like 60% raw and 40% cooked vegan, works for me now. I like shakes, like for breakfast, I make a banana shake with almond milk, very filling. Good luck
@noorieboorie Cutting veggies like that is ok. You can save them and freeze them, they make a great vegtable stock. Its not needless waste.
whatkind of blender is that?
you rock :)
Its cold?? Sorry for sounding stupid but how do you warm it up? Can you put it in the microwave or do you have to heat it on the hob. I work outside and I am looking for an easy soup what is quick to make what I can heat first thing in the morning and pour it into my food flask ready for dinner time but I need it hot now winter is on its way.
+Walt Jabsco If you want to heat a raw soup, you have to heat it up on the stove--but do it very very gradually on low heat, so it's only a little above body temperature. You could then store it in a thermos if you want to keep it warm for a few hours.
***** I make my own veg soup all the time but I chop it all up and bring it to the boil and them simmer it for 15 minutes, THEN blend it. And then I put it in tubs and warm it in the microwave each morning. It is really nice but It takes me ages to chop it all up. I was looking for a way to blend it first maybe to miss out having to chop it all up.
Hmm. This could be a fabulous marketing strategy, and I'd personally like to know how to "uncook" more often for health AND because summer heat makes me wilt at the thought of cooking a thing, but I imagine that such a program makes the "suits" in any corporate office nervous. They wonder if there'd be an audience.
Great video and recipe. Will try this weekend!
I had been looking for great raw food recipes and I found your videos. Love how you give instructions. You have a new fan!
Thank you very much! Have you joined my Facebook page too? facebook.com/RawFoodMadeEasy/
I really like your blender. What is blender that you used? please give all the name details. thanks.
Hi Ka Aa, It's a Kitchenaid blender--my favorite one next to the Vitamix.
I found many brand names. which one exactly? thank you so much.
Where do you get the miso? I have looked for it with no luck.
a lot of asian supermarkets have them o:
can u heat it up a bit? just a bit so is still raw!?? I like warm soup!
Can you warm up the soup?
I love the concept for me. But some people are not able to easily take raw ingredients. is it ok to boil them first then blend.
Sure!
What type of blender is that?
Hi Christina, It's a Kitchenaid blender--my favorite one next to the Vitamix.
@emilyj1987 Thanks for the info, I actually found this out few weeks ago! Again thanks for the help!!
When I was buying cooked food, I was spending more money eating out because i'd get bored with my diet at home. With the raw food diet, I never eat out because i'm never getting food cravings. I'm actually saving money. sometimes I just eat two apples and a banana for a meal. sometimes I make a huge bottle of veggie juice and drink that for half a day. Don't buy any leafy vegetable that isn't organic or veg where you can't take the skin off. It is about limiting pesticide intake.
why did you think that?? gazpacho is a cold soup & cold soups are GREAT in the summer
So I take it this is a cold soup correct.
Try adding tofu in the soup for extra protein it makes it very creamy.
Thanks for the tip!
@emilyj1987 but nuts have protein in them so thats your source of protein :)
creative, but i like my soups hot. i don't like to use microwaves, would it be pointless to blend everything and then put it in a pot?
This particular soup tastes great at either room temp or very slightly warmed (not as tasty or nutritious hot--for a hot one try my Ramen recipe (you can give her the link on my site). To warm Garden Veg Soup, heat it on a stove over very low temp, stirring, for a couple of minutes, checking the temp w/your finger--once it's warm, it's ready!
storage~! LOL
Smoothie?
i want to try but i always have a question for raw food eaters...since everything is eating raw..is it safe to eat nonorganic food since they have pesticides...i cant afford organic...
isnt it basically a vegetable smoothie?
HOW ABOUT A LOT OF CAYENNE PEPPER!!!! YEAH!
made of soysauce you mean? :) She said to just use salt. Miso is optional.
