    Description:
Raw food author and chef Jennifer Cornbleet shares how to prepare garden vegetable soup, especially good for lunch. From her DVD, Raw Food Made Easy.
In this video, Jennifer Cornbleet shows how to use your knife and blender to create a simple, but satisfying raw soup.
Before getting down to a specific recipe, Jennifer details the six basic components that go into every raw soup. This will allow you to mix and whatever ingredients you have in your refrigerator and 'improvise' your way to a delicious soup.
    • Watery greens or vegetables (such as tomatoes) for easy blending
    • Water to thin out the vegetables
    • Citrus juice to perk up the flavor
    • A salty seasoning (salt or miso)
    • Pungent seasonings (herbs, spices, onion, garlic, etc.)
    • Fat (such as avocado or olive oil) to make the soup creamy
Then Jennifer walks you step-by-step through an actual soup preparation featuring unpeeled zucchini, celery, spinach, fresh basil, tomato, lemon juice, salt, miso, water, garlic, and green onion.
You'll even discover the best order to add your veggies to the blender to ensure that everything combines properly and find out why you should wait until the very end of the blending process to add avocado.
A raw, light, and healthy Garden Vegetable Soup is a perfect way to get more vegetables into your diet and a nice change of pace from a lunchtime salad.

I just made this… I used tahini instead of miso, and i used powdered garlic instead of garlic cloves, and i added a dash of raw apple cider vinegar instead of lemon (these are just the things i had on hand). I added 5 green scallions, instead of just one, and 4 tablespoons of hemp seeds, to get in some more omega 3s, along with the half of an avocado. Also some nutritional yeast and ground pepper. Everything else, I stuck to your ingredients. It is amazing!! Definitely will be having this more often.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that uses recipe videos as a template or inspiration instead of exactly duplicating them! Sometimes it's critical, but usually it's flexible. I never have the same ingredients on hand and try to use up what's in the fridge before it declines, I despise wasting food! Also, sometimes personal taste or finances excludes some ingredients, but I love all the amazing ideas! Going to whip this up right now!

@@CharGC123 I do this so much it's a bit ridiculous lol. But...I felt compelled to share a few staple blended soups that I have on this diet, in case you were looking for a few. If you're anything like me, blended soups with greens in them seem to be one of the most healing things you can eat in this way of life - and so as I was reading your comment, I thought... hmmm maybe I should share a few of my current recipes with you, in case that's what you were on the hunt for. So, if not, then just discard this information, but if so... then I hope you enjoy these recipes! I personally love them!
      Cream of celery soup
      1 cup celery (roughly chopped)
      1 cup of arugula
      1/4 cup hemp seeds
1/2 garlic clove or garlic powder
      1/2 cup water
1/2 to 1 teaspoon sea salt
1/2 cup celery (finely chopped) (reserve to add ontop of soup - do not blend)
      1/4 or 1/2 avocado
      blend
splash of lemon juice added after soup is blended - for taste
      Basil Tomato Veggie Delight Soup
      3 cups chopped organic tomatoes
      1 cup chopped organic carrots
      2 garlic cloves
1/4 of a large white onion
      2 stalks organic celery
1/3rd of a red bell pepper (including seeds)
1 and 1/2 cups purified water
1 handful of basil leaves fresh
      1 avocado
      1.5 cups of parsley
1.5 cups of arugula (or two)
      sea salt to taste
      1 tablespoon of coconut aminos
small dash of cayenne pepper powder
1/4 or so of a lemon with peel and seeds
      blend all ingredients
      Cilantro Parsley Healing Green Soup
      1 medium to large tomato
1/2 a medium lemon with seeds and peel
      2 celery stalks
      1 medium cucumber
1 to 1.5 cups of arugula
      1.5 cups of cilantro
      1.5 cups of parsley
6 to 7 green onions or scallions or more (depending on your taste)
      1 avocado
      sea salt to taste
      dash of cayenne pepper
      1 tablespoon of garlic powder
      2 cups of water
      blend
      Mock V-8 Blend
      2 cups of spinach
      1 medium or large carrot
      1 or 2 medium tomatoes
2 tablespoons of tomato powder or 2 to 3 sundried tomatoes
      1/4 to 1/2 a lemon without peel
1 to 2 large celery stalks
      1 tablespoon of italian seasoning
      3 cups of water
      sea salt to taste
      fresh ground pepper to taste
      blend
you can add a small amount of beets to this and/or red bell pepper as well, depending on your taste - but it's fine without it as well!
and you can add a small dash of cayene pepper if you want to spice it up as well - depending on your mood/taste
(this recipe is best served in a glass with ice... it tastes oddly so much better when very cold) :)

@@IdiomofSad Wow, thanks, great ideas! We can never get too many fresh veggies, but salads can be a chore with a wonky jaw and missing teeth! Also, being on a fixed income with these food prices is a huge challenge too! And I LOVE arugula but it is so hard to find around here. I've tried growing it myself along with other things, but it just bolts here in the hot FL climate... so I grow some acclimated tropicals instead (moringa, chaya, katuk, etc), forage the wild things, and grow a lot of sprouts inside! lol I'm a weirdo who was never a fan of sweet smoothies, but these really appeal to me.

@@CharGC123 I am sure you could probably use any kind of green really, that you desire. I prefer blended raw soups over salads as well, though sometimes nothing compares to a salad - blended is so much easier and i feel like my body absorbs the nutrients better as well.

Ha! I made this for breakfast (I prefer savory dishes in the morning and sweeter dishes in the evening, however bad that may be.). I varied it slightly here and there and used what I had on hand, but with the addition of lime, salt and avocado I could eat this every day. It was a cool, summer soup.
Thank you, Jennifer, for sharing these prized recipes and ideas!

I became 90% raw about 3 weeks ago and I'm convinced that this is how we should all be eating. I still eat meat, but in very modest quantites (never more than 200 grams at a time, and no red). I also eat no dairy products or refined starches.
There is something more "human" about this diet. I was a lover of cooked food and always ate very healthily, but the difference in how I feel eating raw is astounding. I have more energy and a clearer mind.

    • @JenniferCornbleet

+Walt Jabsco If you want to heat a raw soup, you have to heat it up on the stove--but do it very very gradually on low heat, so it's only a little above body temperature. You could then store it in a thermos if you want to keep it warm for a few hours.

    • @BillyJango

***** I make my own veg soup all the time but I chop it all up and bring it to the boil and them simmer it for 15 minutes, THEN blend it. And then I put it in tubs and warm it in the microwave each morning. It is really nice but It takes me ages to chop it all up. I was looking for a way to blend it first maybe to miss out having to chop it all up.

Hmm. This could be a fabulous marketing strategy, and I'd personally like to know how to "uncook" more often for health AND because summer heat makes me wilt at the thought of cooking a thing, but I imagine that such a program makes the "suits" in any corporate office nervous. They wonder if there'd be an audience.
Great video and recipe. Will try this weekend!

I love the concept for me. But some people are not able to easily take raw ingredients. is it ok to boil them first then blend.

When I was buying cooked food, I was spending more money eating out because i'd get bored with my diet at home. With the raw food diet, I never eat out because i'm never getting food cravings. I'm actually saving money. sometimes I just eat two apples and a banana for a meal. sometimes I make a huge bottle of veggie juice and drink that for half a day. Don't buy any leafy vegetable that isn't organic or veg where you can't take the skin off. It is about limiting pesticide intake.

Try adding tofu in the soup for extra protein it makes it very creamy.

creative, but i like my soups hot. i don't like to use microwaves, would it be pointless to blend everything and then put it in a pot?

This particular soup tastes great at either room temp or very slightly warmed (not as tasty or nutritious hot--for a hot one try my Ramen recipe (you can give her the link on my site). To warm Garden Veg Soup, heat it on a stove over very low temp, stirring, for a couple of minutes, checking the temp w/your finger--once it's warm, it's ready!
