Ive never watched the antboy movies but I remember loving the books! They're well written and very funny. Pelle in the books gets bullied because he's fat and one day he accidentally microwaves an ant while making a snack for himself, which bites him and gives him superpowers. He decides to become a hero but after a mom reacts badly to him saving her baby he decides to become a villain instead. If you like the movie you should definitely read the books!!!

    Dane here
The movies are actually based off a quite popular series of children's books, which are actually quite well written and clever for children's books.
The movie seems to have changed a lot of things from the books. Pelle originally gets bullied for being overweight, the way that he gets his powers is slightly different and the flea isn't introduced until the third book. Just to name a few differences.
It's quite interesting to see the differences in the movie as well as the series getting attention overseas.

I have a theory about the whole “Summer’s Dad” thing. I suspect it may be an error of transliteration. I don’t know much about Danish language and culture but in my language and culture you use your given name until you become a parent, then your name becomes “Father/Mother of [insert child’s name here]” but your name doesn’t officially change (like in terms of your ID and other documentation), it’s just what people who know you (especially family, friends and colleagues) will call you with. Basically, it’s like a stronger version of a nickname and there is a word for it that roughly means “parent of”. So maybe the translator saw that when they were translating the script from Danish to English and just went with the literal translation without realizing how strange it would sound to an English speaking audience. Again, I’m not Danish so I could be completely wrong but given how awkward some of the dialogue in this movie is, this seems kinda plausible.
Or they just simply didn’t come up with a name for Summer’s Dad.

@Dakota Huffman I'm not the OP, but what OP described is similar to Arab culture. Parents are often called "father/mother of [oldest child's name]". It's called a kunya. For example, if your eldest son was named Ahmed, you'd be called Abu Ahmed (Ahmed's dad) or Umm Ahmed (Ahmed's mom). Your kunya is not your legal name or anything, but it's what your peers call you.

The fact that the nighttime scenes in this movie aren't too dark makes this ten times better than most big-budget Hollywood films made today.
I also prefer watching films in their original language, since subtitles are less distracting for me than poor syncing between the audio dub and the original actors. What's worse, the audio quality of dubbed audio tracks also tends to be inferior to the original audio track, since the dub was usually recorded in a studio and not on set. Ambient noises and natural echoes are important to the audio experience of a film, but dubbed audio is usually devoid of such luxuries. Another general problem with audio dubs is the fact that the voice dub actor often has a voice that doesn't match the physical characteristics of the actor. A great example of this is the French limited series "Parallels", which I started watching on Disney+ dubbed in English. Not only did the dub sync poorly with the movement of the actors' lips, but the dubbed voices were too low or too high, too old or too young for the actors on screen. I switched to the original French audio with English subtitles, and I pretty soon forgot that the subtitles were even there. It was a great miniseries, but I never would have known that if I had tried to watch it all the way through with an English dub. This is why I am suspicious of some reviews of non-English content by English-only critics. If they watched a dubbed version, they may have given it an artifically low score because the dub was bad, not the content.

Red Reub: Spirits of ancestors from a castle give him speed and strength
13: Bad events happen to him every 13th of the month. He’s a Hollywood reporter. He goes to a man he believes caused the curse. Man gives him powers.
These two could make really good stories and I think there’s plenty of ways to make gritty adaptions.

I loved watching the trilogy on Vudu. It was a nice watch and gave a different version of the typical superhero story. It’s a mix of Ben 10 and Spider-Man, to the point that in the first episode of Ben 10, he saves a nerd from 2 bullies. Overall though, if young superheroes-in-the-making are your type of thing though, this would be the movie for you.

I went to the same school with the actor who played one of the bully characters in this movie, he was fairly older then me so i didn’t get to talk to him or anything. However i did go as Antboy with a homemade costume for a school costume competition, he happend to be one of the judges. He referred to my costume as “fucking awsome” i sadly didn’t win tho.

This has a LOT of cool notes of Sam Raimi's 'Spider-Man' and the 'Shazam!' movie. Will def put this on the Lettrbox watchlist! If for some reason the trademark owners of 'Antboy' ever seek to sell the rights, for some godforbid reason, I think he'd work out great on your Discount Superhero roster!
