  • I have collected some used awning parts over the years. In this video I tried to get rid of some old parts and also help save this customer some money (not sure we can even still get parts for these old awnings). This could have gone a lot smoother.

That type of modification is common especially on older awnings. Most of the time with older awnings the awning manufacturer has discontinued that model requiring modification to make it work. Good video.

Good video, thanks. I will comment on a couple of things. I've got a cheap B&D Workmate type portable work bench, ($20 on Craigslist). I screwed a piece of 2X4 to a piece of 1/4 plywood to make a larger work surface, strictly light duty stuff. When I'm doing work like you were here I set the bench up close to put tools and parts within easy reach, I don't have to bend over to pick anything up. I use magnetic trays, (cheap at Harbor Freight) for small stuff like screws. And last, you're weezing pretty badly. Not enough oxygen my old friend. What every it is you're doing or not doing, you better stop doing or start doing.
Good, good, good video, thanks and a thumbs up. 👍

@@hillbillyrv the band didn't brake but it came off of the end cap (with the open or close) trigger/switch, I tapped it back into place but it didn't last, only about one day then it came off again. I think maybe I got it fixed this time ( only time will tell) that band has a small indentation in it (like they put it in a press maybe?) I think to hold that band around the spring so it doesn't come apart like mine did. I put a little more indentation in it this time. I tried to pull the spring lose from the end cap pretty hard and it didn't move so keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks for inspiring me with your videos ! Howdy Hillbilly RV, I know I'm commenting on an older video, but I have what I'd call a newbie question that this video sort of addresses. I have owned my 1995 Safari Serengeti for about 6 months now (2.5'th owner, the .5 owner owned it for about 8 months before selling it to me) and it came with a manual Carefree Awning Model BN3N4 with the Carefree Flexible Metal Weather Shield. Today is the first day I was going to work on extending the awning and I've discovered that the awning strap is missing. How do you recommend I extend the awning so that I can replace the strap? I'm completely lost here and the temps are reaching 113f+ degrees where I'm currently located. Passenger side faces West and receives about 6 hours of direct sunlight so the awning is a must. Thanks in advance for your help and you earned a subscriber from this video alone! Already have a call into Carefree customer support but...they're closed today, of course.
