I really love your channel. I don't know how many of your videos I have watched (mostly awning videos so far) while trying to research things and I love your logical steps. I have just started my mobile RV service and just got a call about a Dometic awning that has some wind damage. Going to look at it today. I finally subscribed to your channel. Where are you located?
I wish I woulda seen this before I wrassled my replacement awning on my travel trailer. This will help me with the spring tension. Thanks for the fun. :-)
My awning arms do not retract to the camper evenly. When the awning motor stops, the spring end is in place but the motor end does not pull up completely. Is this a spring tension problem or a week motor?
Good video. I am considering doing this myself. It looks like my type odmf dometic electric awning. Mine is 21 ft. I don't have the additional separate manual poles so I assume that I will need to put an awl or punch into the hole before removing it from the poles. What size rivets would I need?
Why does it look like the awning fabric is color side up when you slide the polycord into the tube but then it's white side up when you roll it onto the tube?
Just changed the awning fabric on my dometic awning (21 ft.) Got it all back together and connected the power back . Ran awning out and it went really fast like it was free falling but won't go in on it's own unless you help roll it. I had this problem last year at the beach but only once. Could the motor be weak? It is original motor since new 2010. Does it matter how the motor goes back in
@@hillbillyrv I have been thinking about it. I don't remember seeing that aluminum triangular piece on the end of the spring/bar. Going to pull it back out and check it. I did take the motor out and hooked direct power to it from a car battery. It went what I thought as slow. I switched wires back and forth positive to negative and got it to rotate both directions. Thanks for any advice. Trying to avoid spending $400 on new motor if I don't need to.
@@hillbillyrv ok. I got it fixed. Stupid me. I wound the spring up initially the wrong way. Works like a charm now. I'm no expert but that still isn't an excuse. To those reading pay attention and don't rush it. Thanks for all advice.
I will not sell another one. It was not well made. My LCI rep told me they were heavier, stronger and all around better than A&E or Carefree. I should have know, because it was about $150 cheaper than the fabric I should have put on it.
Me either Rob. I was NOT impressed with that fabric. Sad thing is, if you are replacing a Lippert vinyl fabric, this is all that is available. Lippert told me that you can't get OEM fabric. ?????
Great idea using old extenders to remove and install awning.
That works well on Dometic. Check out some of my newer videos to see how we do Lippert Solara fabric changes.

It's always fun....
Great job on the awning. Work smarter not harder
We try Don. I noticed the comments are disabled on your channel. I liked the drone footage. I gotta get one of those.
I know it's been a while since you made this but, whats your opinion of the LCI awning as a replacement? It seemed a bit lighter
Not impressed. The first and only one I ever installed.
One ? Do you turn it clock wise or counter clockwise to tension
Sure wish you could help on mine July 9th my new fabric will be in
It's not that hard. You got this !!

Your awning fabric has shrunk unevenly. The fabric is not square anymore.

3/16 aluminum rivets probably about 3/4 in grip. Be safe and good luck.

Not real sure. This video is from a long time ago. I don't really recommend these fabrics. I wish that I would have gotten a Dometic fabric.
Like the video but why not cut the excess of the just pull the cords
Rapping the excess cord around the end of the tube and then putting the end caps over that is what keeps the fabric from sliding back and forth.

Dometic electric awnings have a spring in the end opposite of the motor. It would be my guess that spring is either broken or has unwound.

@@robertnewman1593 I totally understand
@@robertnewman1593 Everybody has done that Robert....yes even me....shocker, right?
you could have rolled the fabric up before the end caps are put on, the you can just roll the tube up.
That is true. I have just done it this way for so long, I don't want to change. Thanks Jonny
@@hillbillyrv I'm the same way. But back surgery make you think a bit differently . I'll be doing the same job in a few weeks. Nice work

You can hear the cicadas in the background
I love the sound of the cicadas in the summertime.
What size rivets do I need
3/16 with about 3/4 grip length.
So what are your thoughts on the LCI universal fabric
I will not sell another one. It was not well made. My LCI rep told me they were heavier, stronger and all around better than A&E or Carefree. I should have know, because it was about $150 cheaper than the fabric I should have put on it.
Not digging the way they made that fabric with just one tube welting before the valance.

@@hillbillyrv so what fabric do you recommend?
@@davishill4636 Stick with the same manufacturer as the awning. I am not sure they still make this universal fabric.
@@hillbillyrv Where can I purchase oem fabric for the dometic awning?
@@davishill4636 You might check with your local RV dealer.
