      It’s been absolutely brilliant so far. We added a meter of chain to help weight down the floating line and it made a great difference too

    So noted number 712….. but she always finds the most beautiful places at the end…sure we are all lost but the end result was worth her uncanny sence of direction to find where no one has gone before…. She is a keeper for sure….🥰

      It’s nice that you think it’s her sense of direction that gets us there and not me steering from behind.

    great channel! Here is an important tip, you should only fill a gas bottle to a maximum of 80%, otherwise it can explode as the gas must be able to expand due to temperature differences. good luck from belgium👍

    • @RedSeas
      @RedSeas  9 місяців тому +1

      Great tip! Thanks. We were going off the expected weight of a full bottle (after a fill from a filling station) so hopefully that is a safe level to allow for expansion but definitely something we need to look into more. Thanks

    • @grancitodos7318
      @grancitodos7318 9 місяців тому

      In Mexico, the gas is forced in until no more will fit, not a problem, in Australia, the bleed valve is opened for filling, and when liquid comes out, the filling is stopped, so that must be your 80% level.

    I've seen shopping endeavors on other channels - but you managed to make it the most fun! Hopefully when using your gas you don't blow anything up. Very interesting way to keep the tanks filled.

      Shopping is far from our favourite thing to do (can you tell) so we figure we have to have some fun while we do it. Will keep you posted on our combustion status 😃

  • @johnhewett2525
    @johnhewett2525 9 місяців тому +1

    Two things that may help you in the future. In Australia any gas bottle that has an explosive/combustible gas has a lefthand thread on the bottle where you connect the hose. An inert gas has a righthand thread. On lpg bottles there is a screw at the neck that has to be opened when filling so that when the bottle is full it will allow air and gas to escape. If you don't open the screw you will only get a partial fill.

    • @RedSeas
      @RedSeas  9 місяців тому

      Great tip about the screw. I would never have thought to look for that.

    • @berniebrown9115
      @berniebrown9115 9 місяців тому

      @@RedSeasyes the screw is to be opened while filling. When liquid starts to come out of screw close it and your bottle is full

    • @AbNomal621
      @AbNomal621 9 місяців тому

      When I was younger, the standard method was to open the screw and fill till liquid came out. Now (in the US) the standard is to fill to weight. Also, the screw is no longer opened by some as the pressure will equalize as long as the tank isn’t over filled. But… be aware that LP boils at -42C. Butane shouldn’t be a big deal since it boils at just under 0C.

    • @johnhewett2525
      @johnhewett2525 9 місяців тому

      If you run out of gas and don't notice that the flame has gone out air enters the bottle, the way to displace the air is to open the screw as I mentioned. If you don't do this you are trying to compress the air and you will not get a full bottle.@@AbNomal621

    I spent some time helping a friend who ran a propane shop. Liquid LP can cause instant frostbite so we used rubberized gloves. But… if your system can use both (not all can) wouldn’t have been easier to simply have placed the butane tank into the locker and used it like normal?

    • @RedSeas
      @RedSeas  9 місяців тому +1

      Unfortunate the local tank is steal and prone to rusting so we didn’t want to put it in a locker that has a vent directly into the sea below (get a lot of salt in that locker). It also doesn’t fit in there so hence the gravity solution. To be honest, we hope that we will be able to offer other cruisers some fills when we are out in the middle of no where too so it’s kind of a win win

    If you guys want bread buy a breadmaker at a second hand store or something. In reality they only use like .3-,4ish kw total or something typically. So 300 or 400 watts for an hour equivalent.

    You must be crazy to go forward with the filling of the bottles with smell of gas in the compartment. As gas is heavier than air it will collect at the bottom of the compartment and stay there until you switch some electric devices in there and blow up the boat. That's exactly why this is forbidden and why gas bottles in the EU have left threaded connectors.

    • @RedSeas
      @RedSeas  9 місяців тому

      It’s certainly not our preference to do this procedure but it’s worth noting that the compartment is designed to store gas bottles and has several vents in the floor for this exact reason. The leak was very very minor and the drains dealt with any potential build up. Thankfully we have found and fixed the leak since this video. It was the first time doing this fill so we were fault finding as we went.

    I always love shopping with you guys. It’s all part of the adventure. It’s also why my wife won’t let me shop with her, it takes twice as long and we end up with at least 8 stupid things I just had to have. One of them will be pickled jalapeños! They go with everything!
    Try a small spoon of peanut butter and put one jalapeño slice on it. Amazing! (Must be crunchy peanut butter, Neanderthals eat creamy peanut butter)
