Newer U.S. vehicles are required to have laminated glass side windows so you can’t even break them out to escape a burning or sinking car. Mitch McConnell’s sister in law drowned in her Tesla because of that. Someone didn’t think that rule through.

Good Lord imagine eating food with your friends one minute then seeing them one by one slipping into the water. That man will not only have survivors guilt but will suffer from PTSD and a host of other things. If that vessel had problems before sailing off that's a gross misuse of corperate diligence!

I just saw what's remaining of this bridge three days ago heading to NJ from MD. Now, I almost get anxious going on bridges after seeing this.

I could honestly understand needing the law back when the Titanic sank and keeping it around until the 80’s. But as much money as companies make and how much it costs to take care of these tragedies. It should have been repealed or amended a long time ago.
It was a bad law then! The Titanic sank due to poor quality components and putting stupid people in charge who demanded the captain speed up to get to the US ahead of schedule.

@@MonkHoward So, my uneducated math is each of the 6 guys killed get say $25MM. The judgement is $150MM x 30% = $45,000,000 for the attorney's. Like I said, the attorneys will get more than the guy that is alive. Can you prove me wrong? Can you try and be nice next time? My brother is an attorney and he gets 40%. He has 3 homes from the suffering of others. I think that is wrong.

Foreigners can sue American companies for causing harm in their countries. No corporation should be able to get away with killing people because they failed to maintain their equipment. If there’s no monetary cost, there’s no incentive to do better. They can insure their own stuff and get paid if it gets destroyed. Insurance doesn’t bring back the dead.
The video says "speaking in a global language" but he was speaking Spanish and he said that Hispanics immigrants come here to do hard work and they are family oriented law-abiding people" NBC News could have subtitled what he said. All of them were immigrants

Early on, when this incident first happened, the news reporter interviewed a woman who works at the dock. She clearly stated that the "Dali" had electrical problems for two days. -That it could not hold power, and was "tripping" the electrical circuits there. She said "even with a generator and other back up - it was shutting down". That was BEFORE the vessel left the port. smh... RIP.

It's publicy available info that these men worked for Brawner Builders, a well-known, legitimate construction company that bids on and often gets contracts on State of Maryland projects. It is illegal (there are both civil and criminal penalties, as I understand it,) for a company to hire undocumented immigrants. These men were documented, skilled workers who had already done construction work in their home countries. As for not speaking English, many of my immigrant ancestors spoke German, Dutch, French - and one ancestor probably spoke Portuguese. I'm sure they did not learn English here before they died. Perhaps their children did; perhaps not. Just FYI, I'm a conservative, "build the wall" Republican. _I am also a thinking person._ Oh, yeah... and I have a heart for these poor families and this horribly traumatized man.
