  • Hello DIY Friends!! Today's step-by-step how-to video will show you how to makeover your countertops (kitchen, bathroom) by following 3 simple steps.
    Many people feel that DIY countertops are very complicated, but this video shows you how you can achieve new countertops in your home and not have to buy all the fancy things others mention in other videos.
    I seal my countertops using epoxy resin because it protects and makes your countertops durable. If you didn't know, you can pour #epoxy over old epoxy to create a new look for your countertops.

      @@Rystical1 It came out really well. I did a marble effect with some paint first and added a couple of sprays of the marble effects. You have to spray from a distance to get a marble effect. • @ShanettaDIYLife

      Primer/paint/spray paint until dry to the touch. I always wait at least 48 after using epoxy or longer if certain areas are still soft. Every epoxy is different so depends on the product you buy.

    • @ShanettaDIYLife
      @ShanettaDIYLife  2 роки тому +1

      Nope! Still crystal clear. You just have to be careful who you buy epoxy from as some turn yellow fast. Also, you have to be sure not to use harsh dye cleaners as they will stain the surface after a while. this is why I did mine over. (hint Lemon Lysol smh)

    • @ShanettaDIYLife
      @ShanettaDIYLife  2 роки тому +3

      All material information is listed. I learned that epoxy will stain if you use products that contain colorant. ie Lysol was my epoxy stainer. I created my own cleaner using vinegar, water no yellowing at all.

    Beautiful, love how it turned out, you did a fantastic job! You make it look so easy but i'm sure there's a bit of work to it LOL I've been watching video's on what to do with my kitchen counter top and I think I just found it!! Thank you. I'm wondering, I'd like my counter top to have a tad bit of glitter not much just a tiny bit to give it that little bit of something extra. I'm just wondering how would I apply the glitter would I mix it into the epoxy or would I sprinkle it directly over the paint right after I painted with the spray paint. Your thoughts please?? Great video thanks so much for sharing very much appreciate the work that went into making this video for us to view!

    • @ShanettaDIYLife
      @ShanettaDIYLife  2 роки тому +5

      Thank you so much for watching!! I have added glitter before and I personally have applied the paint 1st, then the glitter so it can dry with the paint. Applying glitter can be hard, I recommend putting the glitter in a salt shaker or something for large enough holes so it can come out easy and you don't have to worry about big globs of it falling down all at once. ALWAYS practice applying the glitter to another area to ensure you are shaking it enough to get it out how you want it to fall on the surface. Glitter under epoxy is so beautiful! Good luck and I'm here if you have any questions.

    • @ShanettaDIYLife
      @ShanettaDIYLife  Рік тому

      Noooooo! Painting over a countertop that has paint is the same as a wall. Now if their are deep scratches and stuff, You would want to fill those with primer or even dare I say sparkling from Dollar Tree to get a smooth surface. Then prime and paint as normal. I hope this helps.

    • @ShanettaDIYLife
      @ShanettaDIYLife  2 роки тому

      Not at all! I only painted the countertop to give it a design before sealing it with the epoxy. You can put epoxy over non painted things as well. I wanted the look of a countertop I saw online, so I painted it how I liked and then protected it with the epoxy.

    Our mobile home countertops are cheap material (idk what it is, plastic?) I can tell they used spray paint bc they got some on the wall. can I use this same method to change it up?

    • @ShanettaDIYLife
      @ShanettaDIYLife  3 роки тому

      Yes you can! Any spray paint will cover it, but make sure the surface is smooth. After using the two different ones, I realized that you need to upkeep the surface even if you apply poly on top. When it's consistently used, it becomes less durable. Just consider that when doing your project. You may want to consider contact paper which is less messy and can withstand more traffic and little to no upkeep. Hope this helps.

    Why did you choose pour epoxy over a spray? I've read that poured epoxy takes a full 30 days to cure completely.

    • @ShanettaDIYLife
      @ShanettaDIYLife  Рік тому

      I chose epoxy because it is the most durable and I didn't want to have to do any maintenance to keep up the surface from normal everyday use down the road. I'm not sure what particular product you read about a 30 day cure time, but I researched the best product for my project and I was able to use it without issue within 3 days. This is my third countertop DIY using epoxy and I always recommend people to do this method if they are comfortable enough. 😀 The product I used is linked and these chemicals all cure differently per my research. I made sure to buy the one that was within the timeframe I found reasonable based on how I was applying it.
