- The college football game between USC and Oregon State had a close ending as the two teams exchanged touchdowns in the fourth quarter before USC pulled off a 17-14 victory. USC took the lead with under two minutes left after Jordan Addison caught a touchdown from Caleb Williams. Oregon State had time to tie or take the lead, but threw an interception and the Trojans avoided an upset loss.

Because Williams had a terrible game. I mean. Dam. He kept holding on to the ball instead of throwing it away and taking yardage losses. He was off on the simplest of throws. It was nerve racking.
As a USC fan, it was definitely a difficult game to watch. Oregon State dominated us on every single aspect of the game. The only thing that kept them from winning that game was a lot of missed opportunities on sacking Caleb Willams, and their QB Nolan throwing 4 interceptions which all of the points we scored were based on those turnovers. The running back #8, Griffin is incredible. The guy was unstoppable. Also, the fans played their role too on being too loud for USC to communicate. The first half we wasted all of our timeouts by the beginning of the 2nd quarter. Caleb Williams had to clap to give the center the signal to hike the ball. The environment was tough to be in for an opposing team. Overall USC is very lucky to get a W from this game and have a lot to improve continuing on their season.
On the bright side, if we can win ANY games with the offense playing that poorly, we're already better off than we were the last 4 years

Oregon State's always been a sneaky team. They've got a long history of playin' top teams real tough, even pullin' some upsets on occasion. This is just another example of that. Yeah, they didn't pull it off, but a 3 point loss to the 7th ranked team in the nation ain't bad at all.
They'll be fine, 8-4 + bowl win is how I think it'll look for them when it's all set & done.

As a USC fan, even though we have a good team, there are always going to be those teams that are just a matchup nightmare. Oregon State was one of them. On top of that, you can tell the OSU guys were playing with heart and passion that USC didn't have and momentum was always in their favor.

As usual, anxiety was high going into Corvallis but the Trojans forced a bunch of turnovers and got the job done. Respect to OSU and their leadership. This team is going places.
At least 2 of those INT’s weren’t forced. Nolan had no business throwing them into triple and quadruple coverage. Captain Happy Feet in the Pocket needs to learn to take a sack.

In the sense that I saw the play with my own 2 eyes. And I'm honestly not trying to be an a-hole, but I've always been a fan of defenses. And these days, everything is biased towards offense. I know it's been this way for awhile, but it still gets under my skin. I am a child of the 80s so I grew up with the Bears and Giants, so I just can't help myself.

I commend the defenses on both sides. They held their high- Falutin opponents to less than 20 points. Happy USC won, but it spoke well for Pac 12 D.

We were so close, I thought we actually had a chance for a minute. That would have been big for osu, we would have gotten ranked for the first time since 2012. Should have played more conservative though, the pick on the deep ball screwed everything up. As well as the other 3 picks.

Keep in mind that USC was 4-8 last year. This years team is still much of last years team. 4-0 this year is pretty darn good for a 4-8 team last year. USC will need 2-3 years to become a solid national championship contender. The defensive recruits will start coming now.

Addisson was with Pitt last yesr and every other player at USC has not played into this system together. OKLAHOMA lost so did other top teams. And the other teams like Georgia barely got by.

Beavers played a hard fought game and the defense was lights out but with the game on the line , they couldn’t get a stop. Hard to overcome the missed FG & 4 picks and beat the #7 team in the country. Beavers will be fine tho , teams better not overlook them.

Obviously a disappointing showing from the offense. But if you’re a fan of SC you should be glad it was the defense that pulled through. They had the question marks. They had to prove, and they carried. Offense will no doubt be back to usual. But it’s a step forward with what the D did. On to the next week

Playing in Oregon state is a trap game for USC, for the most part they lose when they visit Reser stadium in recent years.

One of the things that really bothers me about the USC defense is the defensive line does not shed blockers very well. You see teams like Alabama and Georgia, their defensive lines typically do not get pushed around. That's what has been missing since the Kenechi Udeze, Mike Patterson and Sean Cody days, the defensive line was pretty damn impenetrable. It allowed for the linebackers to fly around at will and make tackles for loss, get sacks or play coverage.
SAY NO MORE…. Just months later and see how the DEFENSE got revamped. Grinch either will have a elite DEFENSE or he csn forget about finding a high paying coordinator job.

Hyping up cheaters just hurts the game just like Bama avoiding a safety by the grace of saint SEC. The entire sport has lost all meaning and it's just WWE now... Let the kids play, quit all the diva garbage, get a real playoff and stay in your conference. USC and UCLA should lose nonprofit status and have to pay income tax on all their donations. I'm guessing you don't watch much football. I've seen similar situations in multiple of games over the years, including this year. To say this is some how rare is faulty. The OSU D still had a chance to stop USC, but they failed to do so. To blame a game on a single play is short sighted and only leads to excuses.
Good game, but we can't get 4 picks and miss a field goal, burn all your time outs early in the game and only come away with 17 points. It was an off night. Hats off to Oregon St. The didn't shy away especially on 4th down conversions

Not many have been giving thought to Oregon State in recent years, with pretty good reason.
This year has been different, though. They started their season playing what are often two of the best Mountain West teams, teams that give middling Pac12 teams a hard time frequently. Fresno State's Jake Haener is a great QB, just recalling what he did against UCLA last year while injured. Insane grit and determination on top of his talent.
And Oregon State went to Fresno and beat them this year. The also blew Boise State out of the water just before that. This team has a stout defense and the offense has come along very well this year. They're going to surprise other good Pac12 teams this year. Dare I say, the Oregon 'Civil War' game just might go to the Beavers this year.
I'm actually pretty pumped. I drive through Corvallis often enough and rather like the town. It's great to see the Beavers become a surprisingly good team.

Beavers defense deserved to win that game. However there is that offense... And their offense gave up 4 turnovers. You don't generally win doing that. And yet it was still a close game? Wow... That one hurts.

What we learned .. USC should’ve never been ranked that high
These are preseason rankings, so they don't hold any true value. They're designed to create buzz. The true value of rankings come out mid-season and then the playoff rankings. Take away the rankings and base the value games on the value of teams OSU would be considered one of the better teams in the nation right now. They've been undervalued when others been over valued because of preseason rankings.

Forward progress.
The crucial play was the USC 4th down PUSH the quarterback play for the first down. Instead of pushing the quarterback back, the Oregon State guy should have thrown him to the ground sideways, he was 2 yards short then. Plus, the other Oregon State guys could have helped. He had stopped forward progress, so the Refs could also have called him down before the PUSH. It is only a game.

As a Beavers fan this hurt. Smith has got to address QB in recruiting because Nolan throws too many picks.
In part that falls on coaching. Coaches need to teach QBs how to be smarter with the ball. Nolan has the potential, but the QB coach doesn't help him to be better. And that makes it unfortunate for OSU.
Being a USC fan I'm glad they won, but disappointed with how sloppy they were. Lots of credit though goes to that OSU D. They're the ones who help keep this game close.
