The way he fights in the pocket to avoid a sack instead of taking it is what is nice with caleb because he's always looking to make a play and with reckless play like that your going to fumble a time or two but over all even though he had no time to throw he still managed to make plays and complete some big throws but he definitely has somethings to clean up!
5:19, how do you guys evaluate this play? Clearly the LG is getting pushed into his lap, but should he have stepped up with more anticipation and delivered a more accurate ball? I'm just wondering if this factors into this heroball mindset that everyone keeps talking about; where he's looking for the escape instead of the platform.
It's a bad play for sure. He had time to reset his feet, but given the cumulative pressure so far, I understand why he probably didn't feel that way in the moment and he just trusted his arm talent too much. There are a bunch of other plays that are similar where his arm talent was good enough. Probably just something you might have to live with.
This is my second game watching Caleb and I just don’t get the generational tag. I don’t think him and Jayden Daniels gap is as far as everybody is making it. He’s 100% at top 5 pick but I’m seeing more Kyler Murray to his game than Patrick Mahomes. That Notre Dame tape was rough. if I’m the Bears, I’m definitely taking the draft pick haul that include minimum two first rounders, and two seconds and drafting Marvin Harrison Jr.
Wonder how the kid does playing under center.. I watched a few of his games and the majority of his snaps are in shotgun.. I’m assuming because he is on the shorter side.
I feel like he played a lot better at the end of the game (until that final two-point conversion, where he passed up an open receiver) than throughout. There were too many plays where he'd escape the pocket when he didn't need to and ignore open receivers, but he did a better job on the last couple of drives getting through his progressions and playing on time.

From this film to me I see a QB doing his best. Some flaws with Caleb pop off the screen here; notably that he operates better in chaos than in structure, however most of the things can be fixed and a lot of them are related to this offense having a poor day.
Bruh.. If the bears draft this guy and get rid of Justin, they are even dumber than I thought. it's nothing against this guy, but take the haul, get weapons and beef the Oline. Not only see what Justin can do, but if he falters, take the extra draft capital and get your guy in '25 to develop, sign a vet guy, and can drop him in a much better situation. Caleb will not be able to get away with this sort of stuff. He plays more like zach wilson than mahomes. One thing I will say is his footwork and decision making is a bit quicker than justin. One of things Justin has to improve is his internal clock. But Dude, even if you put mahomes on the bears with the coaching staff, weak oline, and weak offensive playmakers the last few years, he wouldn't look anywhere near the sure fire hall of famer he's been in KC. The bears have to get this right.
One time he drop back and deliver a strike. All the good throws were off scheduled . You guys are silly if you think he’s better than Fields let alone Jayden Daniels. Really need to stop listening to guys who had Trubisky and Daniel Jones rated highly

He can't afford to have a bad OC because all of his bad habits will take over. He needs a strong offensive coach to keep him check-I don't think Lincoln Riley had control of him this year.
He got elite arm talent but all that time to throw won't be in the nfl all that dancing in the backfield gone get cut short. I will say that offensive line at USC is horrible 😂
Anyone calling him a bust doesn’t understand the sport, they also have probably never played it. This MATTERS because if you never played with pads then you don’t know what it’s like to be all on your own when playing. Caleb this entire year was asked to LITERALLY be superman and carry the Trojans, he will translate to the NFL seamlessly, and I can tell there will be the same people talking about how they “always believed in him”
Some of the best coaches and scouts never played football on a high level lol. Use analysis on a player. Not, "I played highschool football so trust me bro." Williams has a lot of talent, but he will have to stop his bad habits when he gets to the league. He's too careless with the football and hero ball only gets you so far in the NFL. In the NFL you have small windows and you have to hit your targets on time or those windows close. Williams will struggle if he doesn't get with the right coaching staff. He'll be a turnover machine if he continues his play from college.
Go watch " How to draft a NFL QB" on Jets Chaos utube. Caleb is physically gifted but he comes with warning signs. He fumbles another plus his interceptions are bad decisions. . The advanced escapabiliy works in college against weaker comp colleges but he struggled against the better teams. I see your point on having to do more but he needs to stay in the pocket in the NFL.
One of these announcers is a hater. I don't think this offense is good enough for him. Only thing he screwed up in this game is he should have went for the TD instead of the slide in the red zone
Williams isn't a generational QB draft pick. He plays ball a lot like Russel Wilson did in his early years with Seattle. And I'm not knocking that level of play as Russ won a Super Bowl in the league and was a high quality player for a long time. Caleb showed good touch on deep balls in this game. His footwork is erratic as hell though and his ball handling is horrid. He plays like a more loose and wild version of Russel Wilson. Similar stature. Similar deep throw loft and good touch + accuracy. Caleb does more side arm angle throws but you don't get bonus points for those. Russel plays with more more control in his footwork than Caleb though and had better ball security by far. Caleb is going to have wow plays and a lot of negative plays that look horrible if he doesn't clean that part of his style up in the NFL. I think he can clean up the negative plays, but the footwork I'd be more concerned about. I don't think he's as strong as Russel in his lower body. Russ running around behind the line of scrimmage was hard to bring down early in his career and he was always under control with good body stability. Caleb actually flails around with his limbs quite a bit and isn't under control. He'll need to get stronger if he wants to keep that element of his game at the next level. Personally I don't believe C. Williams should have been the hands down #1 rated QB prospect coming out. Penix has the best arm of this QB crop, of the acclaimed QB's at the top, I know there were some other guys mid-round with strong arms. Nix is much more developed and well-rounded, decisive, and with a way lower negative play rate compared to Caleb Williams who is a sack + fumble liability as he holds onto the football too long. Caleb Williams also isn't the best athlete in this QB crop, nor does he have the best prototypical size for the position at only 6'1". Drake Maye has the ideal frame, Penix is bigger at 6'3" and has huge mitts to grip the ball, Bo Nix is built well at 6'3" and is in killer shape and has very under-rated athleticism for the position, and most notably Jayden Daniels is a slam dunk in height and athleticism for the position though weight is a significant concern with his frame. I like Caleb as a QB prospect a lot more than I liked Bryce Young, but I'm still much lower on him than most. I think there should have been a much more objective and thorough QB comparison considering two QB's in his same college football division dominated USC last year and Caleb Williams was at the helm of a team that lost nearly all of the back half of his last season with USC. I honestly don't even think Caleb Williams is the most talented guy out of this draft class and might even be mid on an every down basis. Penix' arm talent is much higher. Nix has way better tape on a down by down basis with better decision making and plays in the rhythm of a pro offense where Caleb did not. Drake Maye has that Josh Allen stature and arm strength that always is alluring. Jayden Daniels is the biggest athletic and comparable QB prospect to Lamar Jackson that has come out. And instead of all of those guys the Bears chose a sloppier version of Russel Wilson? What's also interesting is the Bears struggled to get Justin Fields to speed up his clock, play in the rhythm of the play design of a NFL scheme, to get the ball out on time and quickly, basic decision making. And the Bears drafted the QB out of this crop who struggled in all of those same areas the most. Though I do think Caleb will be a better pro than Justin Fields its interesting that the same coaching staff and GM are willing to go back to that same well.
