  • The pen is usable, but not the best. It misses some strokes, palm rejection is not great. I had a better experience with my old Surface 3. I've already updated the drives and changed the settings, sensitivity, even tried calibrating the pen. It still misses strokes.
Is this normal? Is there a way to fix it?
    Thanks if you can help.
UPDATE: this was a problem with my unit. Lenovo gave me a refund. The customer service was very good. I guess this can happen with any machine. Whatever you buy, I recommend you test it on the first days, so it's easier to exchange in case you have a problem.

I had an IBM (before it was changed to lenovo) foldable laptop/tablet for my bachelor study in 2006 or something like that. it was amazing, i wrote all lectures on it, it was a great experience, i still have all pdf files of my lecture notes from soon 20 years ago. it was already a great writing experience then, i cant believe we are not at PERFECT now with these. i have an ipad pro now and imo that is pretty much perfection when it comes to handwriting...

I think it was a problem with my unit. I only noticed the defect after 20 days of use when I started taking notes heavily... and by law, I had 14 days to return the purchase, so I missed it (so I recommend people test everything on the first days in case there is problem). After months coming and going to assistance with no solution, Lenovo finally gave me a refund. Maybe I should delete this video, it doesn't seem fair on the company, a defect can happen with any machine. But I've also seen other videos of the same device with the same defect, but other people say their devices work perfectly. So I'm not sure...

I saw some other youtube videos arguing these 2-in-1 laptop screens don't have very good quality digitizers. I have a yoga 930 and a wacom pen and it's constant frustration when trying to write notes in class. I'd say either an ipad, a samsung tablet, or a microsoft surface device would be better for writing (drawing as well I'd think).

That laptop went to assistance numerous times to try to fix the writing, no solution, Lenovo gave me a refund. I bought an HP Envy x360 and the writing experience is great! The thing that worries me is that people complain a lot about broken hinges. So yeah, I guess the best option is iPad, Galaxy Tab, Surface... I always flip the laptop very carefully, I kind of regret not having a bought a Surface.

@@opiumden34 I still have an old Surface 3. This Yoga 7i (which I had to return) and now my HP Envy were to substitute my old Surface (7 years old, too slow). With this HP I can get double the specs for the same price of a Surface Pro, that's why I chose it - it's a beautiful powerful laptop, but the tablet experience is not as good as a Surface, it's more of a "desk tablet" bulky and heavy. The Surface feels like a real tablet, and you don't have to worry about fragile hinges. The Surface does have a number of shortcomings, but if you want a 2-in-1, I think the Surface is the way to go... Or get a normal laptop and a real tablet, as you said.

@@robrossini917 can you tell me, how old your laptop was? And how exactly did you end up with a refund, when they told you your unit was too old (I'm coming from you reddit post). I recently made use of the guarantee because of a broken hinge, but the pen occasionally disconnects while drawing which drives me insane. I am thinking about a Wacom pen, but I can't really find any posts or experiences on that. Thank you for your help ^^

@@nickg3984 I only realized the problem with the pen 20 days after purchase. It was a brand-new laptop. But it was still difficult to get a refund... It took Lenovo and the store about one month until they decided to give me a refund. You mean you could not see when the pen missed the strokes? Every time I underlined with a double line, it's where I indicated the pen did not work. It misses about one letter in every sentence. For example:
1st line: it did not write the "T" in the first word "This",
3rd line: the dot in "is" (it's very difficult to make dots with this pen)
4th line: it failed to write the first word "it"
      5th line: the "s" in "It's"
... the D in "Do"... etc.
Imagine having to work for hours like this... it's very annoying and will delay your work. But I think the problem is with my unit which is defective. I talked to other Lenovo users who had the same problem, but it seems that most people don't have the problem.
About the lower frame between the hinges, it doesn't feel very solid. It's not a big problem, you feel it's just a bit loose when you press. I'll probably make a video to show that and maybe talk about some pros and cons. All youtube reviewers say this is the best laptop you can buy at this price, but they don't usually mention these little problems.

@@simpleken6206 I suggest you go to a store and try the computer yourself before making a decision to buy. And in case you buy, test it a lot in the first days so you can exchange it easily if there are any issues. I can list the cons:
      - Lower screen frame not solid. But all the rest of the computer feels solid.
      - Mine heats and turns on the fan often even in light tasks (comparing to my old Macbook)
      - Few ports
      - A lot of screen glare, I have to use the brightness close to 100%
      - A bit heavy
On the other hand, it's difficult to find a 2-in-1 with such good specs at this price. In my case, it was the only 16GB RAM 2-in-1 for less than 1000 euros.
If my pen worked well, I don't think the cons are that negative, but obviously they are points to consider.

So I got a refund. I thought this device was just damned or at least the defect hasn't been found. Hence I bought the same Yoga 7 with the AMD Processor, but nothing changed. Lenovo couldn't fix and gave me a refund in the end. I bought an HP Envy 360 13''. It writes perfectly with my Surface Pen. But there are lots of complaints about the hinge breaking in this model, so I'm really careful when I flip the screen. I think you pushed your luck when you chose the same Lenovo again... see if you still have time to exchange it. Usually you have one week to regret... sometimes two weeks depending on the country or store.

Fammi sapere!
