I actually got to meet and greet with Kenneth Johnson two years ago. Nicest guy and a real class act. He had tons of great stories about making this film. The budget was $17 million so it was a moderate success at best.
That would be cool to hear his stories on this film.
Definitely agree it's an underrated sequel. I highly enjoy the film.
The part when he got beat up really got me in tears
Very underrated sequel and definitely the best, I actually saw this in theatres when I was 3, then rented it on VHS and later saw it on TV before getting the Blu-ray along with the first! Fisher Stevens is great and gets more screen time as Ben, Michael McKean is good too along with Cynthia Gibb. And of course, Tim Blaney as "Johnny 5!"
I agree completely that it's a great sequel, maybe even better than the first in some ways. J5 definitely had a lot of personality in this one, and the last 20 minutes of the show is my favorite movie moment of all time. If you haven't watched it, definitely put it on your list!

Nope. But you do hear bits of the instrumental Who's Johnny? in the score.
I agree that this is a very underrated sequel. I have always enjoyed this movie and I still enjoy it. I still watch it. The practical effects of Johnny 5 in Short Circuit 2 still hold up to this day. He moves so life like and very fluid motions. If anyone watches now they will see what I am talking about. But I also love that this was before CGI robots. Because it makes it more real. I also don't really care for the robotic citizenship at the end either. I like the medal and key to the city idea better. But it is what it is. I still enjoy it a lot.
Very nice job on the reviews for both, Mike. I grew up with these 2 and love both of them a lot. And yes, I do find this one pretty underrated. Definitely want to pick these up one day on Blu-Ray.

I think the Hero song is in a John Candy movie. Harry Crumb maybe? He's on a airplane boarding ladder thing, I think. FYI I found out that DARYL is on Warner Archive MOD, so the OOP DVD is cheaper now.
Yeah it's in Who's Harry Crumb too. I love that movie a lot as well.
As a kid I LOVED this movie and watched it countless times on HBO.
this isnt as good as the first but i still like it i like both these movies
I personally thought it was a step above the first film, but to each their own.

its cool i still like it alot but i personally prefer the first i felt the first was darker the only time this gets dark is the scene were the robot gets beat up this felt more like a side adventure with the whole robbery plot the first to me was a more epic story of a robot learning what it means to be alive
Los Locos were the best part of this movie

Hey there don't hurt me! Lol. The scene where poor cute Johnny 5 gets totally smashed to bits by the street gang was disturbing and tear-inducing as hell to a child, and it's still a hard scene to watch today. Fine review, they so tipped off Johnny's trademark butterfly 'eyebrows' in Wall-E!
Great sequel! i saw this 2 times in theaters when i lived in Omaha when i was 6 and loved it.
"Los Locos" gets me everytime...very funny, heartbreaking and endearing movie.
Part 2 i really liked. Awesome review.
