- This is a video of Spyro Gyra performing "Cayo Hueso", from their album 'Stories Without Words', on The Late Show (w/Arsenio Hall) in 1987. I captured this video from my own VHS-recorded copy of the broadcast from back in the day. :)

Their albums of the 80s were fabulous. This 80s sound is just timeless.
One of their very best songs. This a shorter version for TV but still amazing.
What a great vid... My all time fav. Fusion band.. Remember seeing them live in 1991 and this album 'Stories Without Words' has got to be their best work for me...!
Thanks a million for the vid Heylad!
One of my favorite bands and songs! Saw them 4 times between '78 and '95 and each was great. Dave Samuels leaving the band took away some of their unique sound, but still they rock!
thanks a lot for sharing this video. the reason I never saw this video before was because I was in high school, and didn't stay up late enough to see it. not to mention that I didn't hear of Spyro Gyra until 1989.
I love Tom's blond hair. it was also this color in the video they produced around the same time.
One of not only my favorite albums but one of my favorite songs out of all of them
What a GREAT band!!
RIP Dave Samuels.
I grew up dancing to this song in my home. Ah brings back so many memories
Thanks for posting this video - I enjoy Spryo Gyra very much and I was fortunate to not only see them live @ Boise, Idaho in 1990 when I was in college there - but I also was able to take a Improv master class that was taught by Dave Samuels at that time. :)
You're welcome. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the video so much! I agree...'Stories Without Words' is an AMAZING album. Did you see my other video of them performing "Nu Sungo"?
I saw them in a night concert in the '80 in the Hague ....pretty amazing
Great band from back home! I grew up listening to them and watching them play some of the best music over the past 40 years! Love you guys! Special "Hello" goes out to Tom and Chet! ~ John Guchone
Spyro is also one of my favorite bands. I had the privilege once to see them
live in concert performing their Fast Forward album. One word.... AWESOME.
Thank you for posting. Great vid.
WoW!!!Great video performance. Spyro Gyra is fantastic!!!
i like this song
One of my all-time favorite bands, excellent song, the video and audio aren't exactly pristine but they deserve much more than a smart phone glance. Cheers to Dave and Roberto, such nice work.
Pretty amazing that a band from Buffalo can have as much of a tropical vibe as they do.
Thanks for posting this! Love the tight shots of Dave Samuels tearing it up!
Aqui no Brasil também curtimos muito o Spyro Gyra. Bons tempos...
Here, in Brazil, we enjoy Spyro Gyra a lot. Good Times.
I think Joyride and Pyramid are the best cuts on the "Stories" album!
Johnny Bravo on Keyboards.!!
Thanks a lot for posting this video! I really enjoy the music..
The name "Key West" is derived from a "False Friend" anglicization of the Spanish language name of the Island "Cayo Hueso" meaning "Bone Island". Some will say it literally means "bone cay"( a low island or Reef). It was said that human bones were found in the mangrove clumps on the Island.
Terrific
and the beast Roberto Valle on bass
HELL YEAH! nice recording. That's a bit of history!
nice mullet Jay! haha!
Thank you,I should have known that !
Yikes! My OTHER song!!! :( I always loved the anonymity of it, not knowing who it was by while growing up hearing it. Well now here's the video. But GOSH do I love this. ~memories~
I first saw them with Eli Konikof. I really enjoyed his playing.., any news on what he has been up to of late ? Thank you, agian...
@phatbackbeat It's Richie Morales.
I wonder what a jazz icon like Miles Davis would've thought of Spyro Gyra?????
VIBRAFON I SAX !!! БАЛДЕЖ !!!!!!!
Key West!
Why don't they make them like this anymore? Why? So much cliches.. the fashion, the hair style, the synthesizers that conjures up 80's shows like Miami Vice, etc.
So much awesome.
Who is the drummer ? I followed Spyro Gyra for sometime and I don't recognize him.., Is it Ricky From the Yellow Jackets, perhaps ? I do recognize Manalo Bedrina from Weather Report on percussion...
WTF ever happened to Richie Morales anyway? He was my boy back in the day... those were thr days! lol
